Gerdes provides a sharp diagnosis of institutional paralysis, illustrating how the fear of political extinction has effectively neutered the Madisonian design of checks and balances. It is a clinical autopsy of a system where personal survival has replaced constitutional duty.

The Real Reason Republicans WON'T Stand Up to TrumpAdded:
So, for a couple of days now, I've been thinking about this issue, and I want to talk about why Republicans aren't standing up to Trump. Something just happened a couple of days ago, which proves my theory, and if it gone the other way, it could have been a very positive thing in a sense of helping Republicans stand up to Trump, but it went the wrong direction for that. And I'll explain what I mean by that in just a moment. I I'll start with this. I saw this, somebody had sent this to me. Hope this was to me and Jake Bro and Greg Terry saying, "Hope you'll help get the word out. It's critical our reps get calls and letters voicing our support to get this Ukraine Support Act legislation passed." Well, there was just they just had enough uh signatures on the discharged petition to get this through.
Now, why were there so few Republicans signing this kind of petition? Well, pretty much all the Democrats did and a couple independents and just a couple of of Republicans. But why not more? And it's because they're afraid of something bad happening to them. And I'll show you what I mean by that in just a minute.
First, let's start with this. This is James Buchanan. James Buchanan is the Nobel laurate, father of the public choice theory school of our thinking in economics. I've actually got to hear him speak before he passed. James Buchanan's basic theory was um the thing that politicians want most is to stay in power and he proved it mathematically and showed all that the background about that and and that's what's going on. So that's true about every politician.
Whether you're in a third world dictatorship or in a in a democracy, you want to stay in power. And that leads us to this. Here's the discharge petition for the Epstein um the release of the Epstein files. And it took um so this was Thomas Massie who was behind this and that's going to become important for for a reason. And look at the Republicans. The Republicans are highlighted. One, two, three, uh four.
There's four Republicans. All the rest are Democrats, right? Okay. So, who are they? Well, they're Marjorie Taylor Green. She's no longer in Congress.
There is Lauren Boowbert. She's a special case, and I'll explain why near the end. And then there's um Nancy Mace.
She's quitting Congress. She's running for governor, but she knows that she can't she would have been primar if she had if she had decided to run. And then there's Thomas Massie. Couple days ago was the primary, and Thomas Massie was primar. that is he lost his election now. So the election the Epstein files transparency act did come out all but one congressman once it was put on the floor nobody wanted to be on the wrong side of that so they voted for it and all but one congressman voted for it.
All all US senators all but one US congressman. Okay. So and Thomas Massie was behind that. And Trump well he had a burr under his saddle about Massie ever since. Now I saw this and I thought well this is interesting commentary. Every currently serving Republican senator has put his own political survivor survival over truth, duty, and honor. This is very bad. It's It's not talking about that particular issue. It's talking about something else. But what Democrat senator has shown a willingness to risk political oblivion for truth truth, duty, and honor? Which one if put to the test? That's a good question, and that's a fair question as well. Now, right now, we're not dealing with the Democrat senators, but I remember the impeachment of Bill Clinton, for example. If you remember what was going on there, um now, oh, it was just about sex. Well, but wait a minute, there is more to the story. This was somebody in the height of power praying on an intern, right?
And so there's I know it's not the same thing, and people will say, "Well, that's a different circumstance."
Listen, this shouldn't have happened, right? But it was party line. I remember watching Betty Ferdon. Betty Ferdon is one of the leading feminists uh the like firstwave feminist if if I have my facts correct like and she was being interviewed I remember remember this in 1998 she's being interviewed and and they said well you know you're a feminist this is this should be abhorrent to you and she says well and the interviewer said well why didn't you um push against Clinton well because we like his policy okay well there is that they like his policy I'll come back to that in just a little bit and compare what the difference is here. David French, who's a Republican, but he's not anywhere near MAGA. He's very antagonistic to Trump, says this. This is a great question about this. Which Democrat would do this? This is a great question that should be answered with the utmost humility. After all, I spent years surrounded by Republicans who utterly scorn Democratic loyalty to Bill Clinton only to be ex uh to exceed that loyalty and devotion in their support to Trump by several orders of magnitude.
What we're seeing with Republicans right now is just it's it's that same kind of thing that we saw with Ferdon but on steroids. Now here's the real issue.
Okay, so Ferdon like at least they're okay. She she liked his policies here.
They're afraid of being primar something's very different here. So to be primar is a US political slang term meaning that an incumbent a sitting elected official is going to be challenged by their own party's primary election in by another member of the same political party. So if you cross Trump and the MAGA orthodoxy within the Republican party and if you know me I'm I'm a Republican. I'm not MAGA. Nobody's going to be voting for me anyway anytime soon here. That's that's not an issue.
Uh, and I'm not in any uh danger of becoming part of the administration either. So, but I'm not MAGA. I'm like old school Republican, pre-Trump kind of Republican, right? But someone like me would be primar because we wouldn't say that whatever Trump does. Yeah, sure.
That I agree with that. That's what happened to Massie. He was primar. Now, here we see on Truth Social, who who is he primar?
There was a guy named Ed G uh Galler Gallerin for Congress. Now Ed Gallowine seems like I mean he's a a war hero and okay uh he's I I don't know his policy positions but Trump was supporting this opponent of Massie particularly because Massie was in Trump's view disloyal to him. So here we are. Donald Trump saying Thomas Massie of Kentucky, the worst and most unreliable Rep Republican congressman in the history of our cong.
Well, he was also one of the very few Republicans being willing to put his name on that discharge petition. Three or four of them now gone. And the fourth, I'll explain why she's not.
Thomas Massie, a major sleas bag, is even worse. Kentucky gets this loser out of politics in Tuesday's election. uh vote for Ed Gallerian, uh successful Kentucky farmer and American war hero who only ran because he thought that Massie was so disloyal and disres disrespectful to your president. Me that's what we mean by being primared.
This is a great man. Central casting in fact who truly deserves to represent the fantastic people of Kentucky. Ed will never let you down. Make America great again. President Donald Trump. Okay. And then we have other comments like, "Can you imagine Congressman Thomas Massie putting out a many years ago endorsement of him by me uh when he knows that he wasn't endorsed, but I proudly endorsed Ed Gellerin." The reason is that Massie has turned out to be the worst congressman in the Republican party. So Trump is actively working against him.
Trump after the Epstein files were released, which was largely because of Massiey's effort, um yeah, he he's got a score to settle and he settled it just a couple days ago. So Ed Gallerin wins.
This was on Tuesday night, just a couple days before. So Trump posted this on Truth Social, and he posted a lot of other things on Truth Social, like bad congressman Thomas Massie voted against.
And they list a bunch of things.
Everything that is good, the worst Republican in history, Kentucky, vote the bum out on Tuesday, we can't live with this troublemaker for another two years. He's truly a negative force. And okay. And then we see well other than uh this kind of thing he was posting all these 37 wins and zero losses. That is Trump posting and boasting about those that he endorsed that won their primary elections with the backing of the party working against these other people that were maybe not the best candidates to Trump's mind because they don't support the MAGA orthodoxy. And he just goes down the list. I mean, I I hope there's an intern doing this and this isn't what Trump is actually doing with his time, right? So, he's going down the list and yeah, so you get the idea. That's what being primared is. Okay. So, with that, Thomas Massie is defeated on Tuesday.
And this sends a chilling message to those that would be perhaps willing to buck the Trumpian orthodoxy on whatever issue that this could happen to you. So, here's former Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Green. I'm proud and thankful to have served in the US House of Representatives with my friend Thomas Massie, a giant among weak, pathetic men, she says. Releasing the Epstein files was our demise. Now, she stepped out of Congress shortly thereafter because, well, she was going to have a very hard time there, but it was worth every single bit because now everyone knows the truth. You are ruled by uh sorry you are ruled by the Epstein class that cares nothing about you and your elected leaders and you are bought and controlled by a foreign lobby. Tonight the future of the Republican party was destroyed. Okay. So she can speak openly because she's not actually sitting in a congressional seat. So Lauren Boowbert too, she also signed this. And Lauren Boowbert, whether you like her or not, she was one of the four Republicans willing to sign this discharge petition to get this out.
So now, why was she why is she still in Congress? Trump threatens to turn on Boowbert, but it's too late for a 2026 primary challenger. So, she's safe at least for another two years. And remember, Trump will be out in two years and then maybe the threat will dissipate. So, that that's where we are.
Here's uh Marjorie Taylor Green again.
the irony of fortunate son playing at the Ed Gallerin campaign event hosted by there's a event to get rid of to primary and get rid of Thomas Massie hosted by the secretary of the department of war heath he's actually there to work against a Republican primary uh a Republican sitting congressman to primary him that's the degree to which they're going to do this so you have to understand there's there's like immense pressure to stay with the magal line. Here here is Marjorie Taylor Green resigning. Not a joke. This was on November 21st. I posted that. And here she is talking about how she sees Trump now. Well, she she can talk about this freely now that she's out of office.
>> I mean, all the things that happened, we supported him through thick and thin.
And that has glued people glued people to think they have to support him through anything and everything. And that's wrong. That's absolutely wrong.
The American people have to open their eyes and deal with reality and deal with truth. And the truth is, look, you may have supported President Trump for 10 years like I did, like you have, but this is not the same man. This is not the same man that we supported. And he has Okay, so I've said for some time Trump 2 is very different than Trump one. like there there's a like a a revenge energy coming out of Trump too. Okay. At any rate, so now Massie had he won would have thrown a monkey wrench into that system. But had he won, he also would have been well I mean he was right on on the same page with Putin. Uh Jo Yonyi Escola says this. The enemy of my enemy is not always my friend. Thomas Massie just lost his Republican primary leaving many anti-Trump observers feeling disappointed. While opposing Trump is undeniably a good thing from his perspective, supporting Massie is a massive mistake. Look, Massiey's a libertarian, doesn't like wars, and he's bought the Putin propaganda line and repeated it. But he also stood up for the Epstein files to be released. And that's the thing that got Trump to think that he needs to be primar. And there we are. All right. So now, let's what's going on just now. Okay. Trump granted lifetime immunity from audit tax. You probably heard about this. U this is part of an IRS deal. Trump had a $10 billion lawsuit. I talked about this two days ago. The agreement reportedly states that the US authorities permanently lose the right to bring similar claims in the future. About that up to this date, not in the future for anything. He he's not like um above the law for every issue from this point forward. And then there was this $ 1.8 billion fund to compensate victims of political persecution. He sued his own justice or IRS I guess through the justice department or something and and taxpayers are footing that bill and that's where Trump is now. Well, where are the Republicans like lashing out against this? Are aren't we like the fiscal like hawks? Like that's what I understood our party to be. Here's Adam Kinzinger talking about it. There's no way the Republicans would be anything less than outraged if Obama had taken almost two billion of taxpayer dollars and given it to people that he pardoned for trying to steal an election. Every Republican in Congress who doesn't speak up and prevent this is complicit. Except Republicans will not speak up in Congress because they want to keep their jobs and they don't want to be primar.
All right. So, I hope that helps you understand what's going on in Congress and why it's it's misfiring the way that it is. Um, but it's only going to misfire the way it is for another uh well, 6 months or so. The November elections are coming up. It's May now.
November elections are coming up and the the the Republicans will very likely lose the House. Um, perhaps could lose the Senate as well. I don't know. But mixed government turns out to be generally a better thing than when one party overwhelms the other party with the executive and both houses of Congress because they they tend to overshoot. And while I'm a Republican and I have certain political values and Mag's not really fully there with me on what my values are, but I I still see that you tend to play nicer when you have to play nicer. And I think that's where we're going in no in the November election. So by January, something should tamp down. And then as far as being primared, that threat will could only last for another two years because after Trump, I I don't think that he's going to have the force to be able to to pull this off in the same way again. All right, tell me what you think about this in the comments below. My shout out is to Kevin Caner, a Patreon colleague.
Thank you, Kevin, for your support and I appreciate it. Uh tell me what you think in the comments below. Thank you for the time, the likes, the shares, and the subscribes. I hope that was helpful to your understanding of what's going on and why it's why the system's doing what the system's doing. Thank you for being the kind of person who cares about the world we live in.
