Bannin’s technical precision provides a necessary reality check against holiday optimism. It is a clinical reminder that atmospheric dynamics remain entirely indifferent to our social calendars.

Severe storms possible on Mother's Day in Central Texas | KXAN Forecast (May 8)Added:
All right, Nick. A busy weekend, Mother's Day, graduations, and we see some storms in the forecast.
>> Yes, and there's going to be long periods of the weekend that don't have rain and storms, but we think it could end with a bang here as we go into Sunday evening, especially. Let me walk you through what's happening big picture-wise, and then I'll take you through the timeline of storms that could both bring some beneficial rain, but also large hail and damaging wind.
Outside right now, we just have a lot of clouds, a little sun, a warm front moved through Central Texas today, changed the wind direction, helped temperatures jump up from the 60s yesterday into the upper 70s and low 80s here today. And at the same time, we've got an area of low pressure spinning due west of us now.
Now, usually ahead of this sort of low, we would get much more in the way of moisture, lift, and thunderstorms, but that's been somewhat limited here today, and we expect it to be fairly limited tonight and tomorrow as far as rain and storm chances go.
They're not zero, though, but they're low, say 10 to 20% chance for a shower storm overnight into tomorrow morning.
And then as we head through the day tomorrow, morning clouds will give way to increasing afternoon sun. That too could develop a very isolated shower or storm.
Still most of us dry, most of us hot as high temperatures head for the upper 80s to near 90 here tomorrow. Then we go into tomorrow night, any isolated showers around are mostly gone, and then the clouds come back with a little drizzle here Sunday morning. Sunday's clouds in the morning should quickly give way to sun by late morning and midday, and a lot of heating during the afternoon tomorrow is going to push temperatures up into the low 90s. Not seen here, but it's possible we could get an isolated severe storm to bubble up during the afternoon. It is much more likely that we have a big cluster, a broken line of storms that develops to our north during the afternoon and then drops into central Texas during the early to mid evening. These storms will carry mostly a damaging wind threat followed by a large hail threat as they move through.
Now, you may be wondering, well, what about the flooding threat? Well, they'll be moving fairly quickly, so they could still produce brief bursts of heavy rain, but are unlikely to stall over one area too long to give us much in the way of flooding concerns the way things look for now.
So, this is 6:00 p.m. Sunday. Storms mostly in the Hill Country, then they move into the metro 7:00 8:00 p.m. and then they continue diving south and east through the late evening and overnight and then the rain is just about done by 1:00 a.m. Monday. Monday starts with some clouds and then we brighten up to some sunshine. So, tonight rain chances 10% to 20% most of us dry with a lot of clouds around. Your Saturday, another 10% to 20% rain chance. Generally speaking, clouds to a sun cloud mix in 89 and most of Sunday's dry until the evening. High of 92 just that is the slightest chance of a storm in the afternoon though. Severe weather risk has jumped up to a two out of five now for Sunday. Large hail and damaging wind the primary concerns. Looks like a quick quarter inch to an inch of rain. Most of that really coming on Sunday.
Temperatures do drop from the 90s to the low 80s Monday and then they rebound.
There'll be some drop in the humidity too as we go from Sunday into Monday and then that gradually starts to rise. So, stay weather aware here this weekend.
Don't cancel your Sunday Mother's Day plans, but be ready to head indoors certainly Sunday evening. All quiet for next week.
