Medical assistant charged with submitting over RM200,000 in false claims for equipment supplyAjouté :
A 48-year-old medical assistant claimed trial at the sessions court in Ayer Keroh on Tuesday to 10 charges of submitting false claims totaling more than 214,000 ringgit for the supply of medical equipment to health and rural clinics.
Azizul Farid Mohamed pleaded not guilty before sessions court judge Elizabeth Payawan.
He was accused of using supply and service acceptance documents to deceive the health ministry into believing that medical equipment had been supplied to clinics under the Alor Gajah Health Office when the items were allegedly never delivered.
The offenses were allegedly committed between June 19th and September 29th, 2023 at the Alor Gajah Health Office.
The equipment was purportedly supplied by two companies and the accused was alleged to have known that the documents contained false material particulars intended to mislead the ministry.
The charge under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009 carries a maximum penalty of 20 years imprisonment and a fine of not less than five times the value of the false claims or 10,000 ringgit, whichever is higher upon conviction.
The prosecution sought bail of between 40,000 ringgit and 50,000 ringgit along with additional conditions including reporting to the MACC and surrendering his passport. The defense requested lower bail saying the accused had fully cooperated with investigators and was supporting a 13-year-old child with a heart condition.
The court set bail at 30,000 ringgit with one surety and fixed July 14th for case mention.
