Northeast Faces Stretch of Cool, Rainy Weather Into Next WeekAdded:
We're back here on Fox Weather Live, I'm meteorologist Jane Minar. Thanks for hanging out with me this afternoon. It is Mother's Day weekend and brunch plans top of mind, maybe getting together with mom, doing some planting outside, right?
They say this is the weekend to do it.
Well, if you're in the Northeast, we've certainly seen more cloud cover, rain has now started and will stick around as it is going to be a bit of a gloomy weekend. Although not a complete washout, I want to keep the umbrella close by because this isn't just for the weekend, but into next week as well.
Rain beginning to fill in on the I-95 corridor. Up to this point in the day, it's actually been pretty dry. We've had maybe a couple of showers popping up here or there, but now we're starting to see that shower action begin to fill in coming up from the south and moving in from the west. So, really no dodging it as we head into the evening hours. We've got cloud cover that's been quite abundant back out across parts of central PA, more so across the region.
We are going to be locked into that gloom. Boston, right now we've got a little light rain. You can see the wet rooftops. That is what is going to stick around through the rest of the night tonight. So, we will get a break. Now, we've got a cold front driving in, in fact, already pushing across the Eastern Great Lakes. That sets up tonight, it's fast moving. It's actually going to drive in pretty quickly as we work our way into tomorrow, but it starts to fizzle. Here we are by about 12:00 and that rain across the interior Northeast from tonight doesn't exactly make it to our major cities. So, we might thread the needle perfectly getting into tomorrow. Ahead of that front where we will see temperatures continue to stay comfortable and warm. In fact, Philadelphia tomorrow, we're going for like the low 80s for a daytime high and we'll maybe start the day with some sunshine filtered. We'll get more clouds to build in for the afternoon as those showers do eventually begin to pop up as we head towards the evening, but again, it's scattered coverage, not a washout until we head into the overnight and Monday morning's a different story. More rain filling in as that front really starts to settle into the I-95 corridor.
8:00, roads are wet. You might want to give yourself a couple of extra minutes out the door, bus stop, have the umbrellas close by or let the kids sit in the car until the bus comes down the street. But here we are through the rest of the day on Monday, pockets of heavier rain that slides off the coast, I think by about the lunch hour. Rest of the afternoon, closing out Monday will feature lesser in the way of clouds and we'll start to dry things out. But unfortunately, it's not the last chance for rain throughout this upcoming week.
Through Wednesday, expecting possibly an inch of rain on the I-95 corridor. We need the rain. This cold front pushing off at the start of the week does cool down our temperatures a bit. Now, it's not as sharp as what we've experienced in the past, but hey, upper 30s, 40s, I'm just grateful that we're not close to the freezing mark. So, no frost or freeze alerts up on the board, which means if you are doing some planting or moving your plants outdoors into their beds this weekend, you should be okay.
Although, maybe wait another day or two because these cooler than average temperatures will stick around, but we are expecting a bit of a warm up towards the end of the week. New York, 60s are back on the board, but again, more rain filters in after Wednesday.
