The Norman invasion of Ireland in 1169 should be understood as part of the Angevin Empire rather than simply an English invasion, as both Strongbow and Henry II were members of this broader political entity, making the interpretation of the invasion more complex than a straightforward English conquest.

the Norman invasion debateAjouté :
I'm massively disagree with Bertie's interpretation of the Norman invasion of Ireland in 1169.
Bertie's views fall in line with Shawn's new book, The Medieval Irish Kings and the English invasion. And Bertie ultimately believes that the actions of Strongbow fall in line with the King of England, Henry II, and is ultimately a part of the 800 years of struggle against the English Crown.
However, for me, a medievalist, this is way too simple. And I believe there's far more complicated given that both Strongbow and Henry II were part of the Angevin Empire. And my talk and beliefs fall in line with that of the book that's coming out in October, Strongbow in Ireland and the Angevin Empire.
However, I'm also super excited to know what Sean Duffy thinks as well with his upcoming book with Peter Invasions 1169.
So, it's definitely a really exciting time to get into the Norman invasion of Ireland. And definitely comment below and tell me what you think and what's your interpretation. Is it the English invasion, the Angevin invasion, or the Cambro-Norman invasion? Or perhaps just the Norman invasion.
