Was Phoenix Learning a New Lesson Today? Smith Rock Eagle Update Day 45

[00:00:00]Day 45 for Phoenix and Smith Rock Eagle started with a question. I arrived at the nest at 6:00 a.m. hoping to record a feeding. A few observers were already on site and told me they hadn't seen any food deliveries yet. When I got there, both eagles were perched on the nest tree. The eaglet was waiting and so was I. For the next 3 and 1/2 hours, I watched the nest, expecting that food delivery could happen at any moment.

[00:00:25]Then, an unexpected visitor changed the mood entirely. A juvenile bow eagle flew past the nest and Sky immediately took off after it, disappearing from view.

[00:00:34]Was she defending the territory or was she heading off to hunt? And most importantly, would she return with food?

[00:00:40]Let's see what happened.

[00:07:57]The feeding I hoped to capture never happened while I was at the nest, but the morning still left us with questions. Were they teaching little Phoenix to go longer without food?
