In Trinidad and Tobago's two-party political system dominated by the PNM and UNC, voters face significant barriers to supporting alternative parties due to electoral thresholds requiring 21-22 seats to form government, high barriers for new parties to gain representation, and the tendency for smaller parties to join the major parties in government. A poll conducted on the show revealed that 66% of listeners believe voters will not vote for parties other than the two main parties, while 34% express hope for political change. This reflects the challenges of political evolution in established two-party systems where new parties struggle to achieve the necessary support to break the dominance of established political forces.

>> Me I'm a little tired because I was up late last night doing stuff. So I actually went to bed I kid you not sir Charles at maybe about quarter past 3 this morning.
>> About what? quarter ple >> three.
>> Oh my word. Yeah. Yeah.
>> I am I myself >> I encountered a problem. Yeah. Because I'm doing some stuff digitally and I encountered a problem that I did not know how to resolve. um which involves which involves coding >> and and um understanding coding to a certain degree and of course I'm not a coder. Well, last night >> that was a learning curve.
>> Yeah.
>> Trying to figure out this problem but I eventually got a result but it took me hours. That's why I went to bed early.
Yeah. Well, that is what does normally happen, you know. You know, when you're not into a particular field, um you will get it eventually, you know, but you know, normally somebody will who knows it will come and um have it done in about 10 minutes. It will take you about 3 hours.
>> Yeah. And Yeah. Yeah. You're right. I mean, somebody who's who's an expert in the field could probably look at it and say, "Uh, this is the problem." I just couldn't figure it out. me and was and I was deleting a result I did not want. So I was I was trying to figure out how to not get that result, >> right?
>> Yeah. And that took a forever and >> anyway it is what it is. But you know, >> but you got it sorted out >> eventually.
>> Eventually you got it sorted >> eventually. I was I was at the point of giving up and saying, "Okay, maybe I need a fresh brain on this like sleep on it." But I'm persistent that way now.
And I'm like, "No, no, no. I'm going to resolve this." And eventually I did. So, >> wow. Well, that's um I I had I have to be deliberate some days or so when I have to get to bed because um sometimes I do just like you ended up those kinds of hours. Um but I have to be very intentional these days. and say if I when I sit down to say I say okay 11:00 that is it 11:30 where whatever it is and I'm I'm done by that >> I'm trying my best to get it organized >> so much so that um and then like yesterday we had some problems with the internet in our area here um a lot of areas actually where um Amplia supplies um internet service so Eluro I know what I call They read out a list, you know, the first they know what you're going to call them for. From the time you I I I rang up what was going on. Um customers. So we apologize. We know you're experiencing problems in El Curo um Morocco St. Joseph uh and um San Augustine and environments and went on with a whole list of places after that time. Was one coming back?
>> Was ARA one of the list?
>> Um, no. Ama wasn't on the list because when I called someone a little higher up now like a Ruka found out you all have internet they tell me yeah we have internet.
>> Um, so it didn't it didn't reach >> usually he's usually very dependable. I find I find flow often goes down from time to time, but I find it tends to be more up than down.
>> Yeah, there that is true. That that is true, you know. But um boy, it was it was something else. So when you're trying to do everything now remember all a lot of the things we we are using are cloud-based you know >> so hard to try to put together things this morning you know >> you know that what you're saying there is so right there's a giant that internet has moved from whatever you wanted to call it before if you wanted to call it an option If you wanted to call it a luxury, if you wanted to call it um um something that you you could have or should have to being now essential, it has moved into that field. So that when the internet goes down, it's akin to a point of like electricity going down because so much of your life now depends on that access to the internet and a lot of your work life depends on it.
>> Yeah.
>> And so one it it means the ability to do work just comes to a halt.
And I don't know if I don't know if internet but I suppose internet providers know this. must do this.
>> Yeah. Well, I think they they and I think that is why um they they work so feverishly and on and getting it up, you know.
>> Um because it it is a substantial part of life, you know, because I can't um share anything, download anything, read anything that you can be doing everything online, you know.
>> Yep.
>> Um all the storage, everything is online. Um the platform, you know. Um so even when and I have the like the both the boat both in so I'm dealing with both flow and amplia um but while flow was up flow wasn't like at at a proper strength so it was only buffering and it was really frustrating so much so that I when I when I went to bed last I wasn't even able to schedule the stream for this morning. I got up this morning to schedule the stream.
Yeah.
>> Yeah.
Yeah, exactly. And you know I when I when I looked at I said but you know it it anytime this thing goes down it's you can disable so many different um aspects of life and things in a in a society.
Um, and I remember not too long ago I was reading something. I don't know how true it is where this Iran um, Israel US conflict that is taking place out there and they were talking about some uh, internet cables that are under the sea or whatever is the case and they were threatening to disrupt that and how many millions of people in in areas would have been affected by that. So all that was coming into the apparently into the the the war um the war talks and I was saying wow.
>> Yeah. Incredible. Well we have war talks taking place in Trinad too um yesterday in parliament which is a nice sideways search.
>> We have war talks.
>> Yeah the war talks of sort the well well the use of the word war in talk is what I should say. Um in terms of the attorney general yesterday um in parliament saying that uh the the current government is dedicated to peace and it will be peace through war if need be. Um and of course he was referencing saying what would have happened in Belmont um um you know last week or was it earlier this week? Forgive me.
>> Last week >> right? So he was referencing that and so he said peace through war in terms of war against the criminal element and that's how you're going to get peace. If I had to explain it to people who didn't understand >> and and that because of what happened in Belmont, one of the gang members in Belmont apparently made whatever kind of threat that resulted in increased security for parliamentarians which apparently the commission of police um um confirmed. So that there was a ramping up of security and there's also a ramping up of police presence in the Belmont area. Um so all of that was part of the news for last night. Um so you know peace through war.
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah. you know, but I don't want to get into the news items too much in terms of what's going on and I mean a lot of you are know more maybe even Ed even than me because I was still you know watching news and listening to news but also doing stuff last night and um so I suppose it's a good point which we could get to our good news for this morning sir Charles >> excellent >> sometimes a single act of kindness can grow into something much bigger. In the United Kingdom, one young man used his voice to make a difference for millions of children. Marcus Rashford, a professional footballer, knows what it's like to grow up facing food insecurity.
As a child, he relied on free school meals to get by. So, when the pandemic left many families struggling, he decided to take action. What started as a simple effort to support vulnerable children quickly became a national movement. He worked with charities, spoke out publicly, and called for support to ensure that no child would go hungry. His campaign reached the highest levels of government, and made a real impact. Policies were changed, funding was extended, and millions of children across the country received the meals they needed. But beyond the numbers, the message was powerful. That one person using their voice and their experience can create real change. Today, his efforts continue to inspire people around the world. Because kindness is not always about grand gestures.
Sometimes it starts with understanding and the decision to help others. That's good news on Net Radio. Follow our channels and listen atraott.com for more great content.
Yeah, >> very good news.
>> It's see a lot of these um individuals like that. It's, you know, especially our um sporting athletes and you know, different entertainers, people in the arts, different, you know, they are are working to help a lot of um people and if we didn't really have people like that, I don't know what would have happened to in a lot of cases where government that can't or fail.
>> Yeah. Look, you know, a lot of governments sometimes are a bit um rightwing, you lean rightwing. Uh I'm not saying K star and them are. I'm just saying that a lot of governments do.
Some some governments do lean um to the right in terms of how you view world politics. And of course those kinds of event shares are frowned upon. They believe you know you have to do stuff for yourself and you blah blah blah. You know, they take that kind of approach.
um even though they profess to be very Christian and very religious. So, it's always a kind of strange duplicity that takes place with the right. Yes, whoever is on the right, I'm talking to you.
Just in case you're in doubt. Um yeah, they always claim to be religious and and all of these conservative values, yet a lot of their policies that can be very cruel for those who are underprivileged.
And I know that there are some places um where I know there are some wealthy people have set up I can't remember which country it was if it was the US or where they set up like free mini groceries um with where you could go and shop like with a cart and stuff but it's free >> because they they wanted to bring back some level of dignity now that you don't have to be coming to collect a box and stuff like that now that you could you could actually do like your grocery shopping but it's you know, initiatives like that.
>> Um, because food insecurities are a hell of a thing. You know, you never know who's suffering from food insecurity.
>> Yeah.
>> You may think it's only people who are very so uh economically, you know, um, compromised or very poor and everything like that. But sometimes you have middle class people, middle class families who are going through food insecurity.
>> Yeah. I'm not too sure and and and fighting to make ends meet and and and making sure um what limited amount of groceries they have, how long will it last, where is the next meal coming from, you know, paycheck to paycheck, any disturbance to that is traumatic.
>> It is. It is.
>> Any unexpected expense becomes traumatic.
You know that's that's a lot of what many people go through.
>> Yeah. That's a that's a serious reality and and sometimes it's only when and sometimes not even when you talk to people sometimes when you you sometimes get the opportunity to sometime visit people too you get to realize okay you know I I thought this was different you know.
>> Yeah.
And what do politicians do? Argue and throw words back and forth in parliament. And people seems normal.
>> Yeah. And people that live on the outside and you know >> Yeah. That is that is normal behavior to them.
>> Yeah.
>> Oh my. Any let's read the people in the street.
>> Absolutely.
>> So let's greet all of the people in the stream this morning and let's see who came first. And it is Odell Guide. Good morning, he says, and blessings to all.

Okay, so we are back. We do apologize for that little glitch. It seems to be a little fallout there, but we'll check it out as we go forward.
>> Okay. I was not about to mention it to you, but I wasn't sure whether you were recognizing it on your end.
>> Yeah, I saw it. I don't know if the um if the volume on the on the on the commercial got beat. I check it out.
>> Yeah. Yeah. Cuz you hearing it very very soft. Um so so yeah. So something to look at and of course um that's some excellent prices from Fats International though. You know clothes and sneakers $200 and $100 as a to rush down too.

>> Are coming back now.
Yeah, go check out Fox International.
They have a clearance here. I mean, wow.
>> Astros there. You don't have to walk at all.
>> Yeah.
>> So, anyway, let's get into the news. Let me put on my glasses because you know I have to do Trinad Express and Guardian this morning. So, >> um So, let's get into the news. The headlines for this morning. Um so, I'll start with the Trinad Tobago Express for this morning. Officials given Okay.
Thank you Express for just scrolling randomly. Um, officials given extra protection. A member of the Belmont gang sparked a nationwide Well, what I would have indicated before that was in the news last night. So, officials given extra protection. Young hits loose security handling, feel the force. Um, that's red force they're talking about.
And Philip and Wallace strike gold. Um that's our sprint cyclists.
Um so the officials given extra protection a member of the Belmont gang sparked a national security incident last Friday which caused um security and parliament to be beefed up and several government officials to be placed under higher protection. Young hits loose security handling. Opposition MB Ste criticized the loose manner in which the government handles matters related to national security. Cops and soldiers look on land for Angelo. This is still an ongoing story. Remember one of the persons in the stream yesterday said that um they believe the body has been found. It has not. Um so cops and soldiers look online for Angelo. Police intensified the search from missing 2-year-old Angela Angela Tobias Plaza yesterday at Goodwood Bay Tobago with the help of the Defense Force personnel and the Coast Guard. Um so that's um some of the trending stories taking place in >> national security um not national I keep say national security so much inside of us um homeland security was saying that they now adding some other dimensions um into that whole situation you know teams of people homicide and other person.
>> Okay. Yeah.
>> Yeah. So, I'm gunning for speedsters, homicide probing case of missing Tobago toddler, which is what you just talked about, for facing charges for the murder of two pensioners.
Um and those were the um remember that story that we would have read um about or we would have talked about on the show um about the two guys who went to look you know the older guys the older gentlemen and they just never returned with the family members were wondering where they were because the calls weren't going to the phones two you know partners lying and they went up to line the older gentlemen and then they were found their car burnt >> and we were like it was a bizarre story.
>> Yeah. Well, there are four people now facing charges for the murders of those two pensioners. So, good work to the TTPS in terms of making some headway in that case because many times, you know, you have these horrific incidents and nothing happens and you don't get any um um any update or you see anybody held accountable. So TTPS good job in um at least holding people I mean of course they're still innocent until proven guilty but at least it's an update on such a horrific horrible story.
>> Something seem happy and and there be a number of different twists with that story too.
>> Yeah. Pro into convent principal launched senators vote 16-3 against John Bates. I don't know what I'm voting against her for. Um but anyway, um that's the express. So I'll move quickly on to the Trinans Guardian for this morning and and what the headlines are in the Guardian.
So Newton against MPs AG reveals increased protection for government officials after national security incidents parked by gang member. Um, so that's the main headline. A young and husin apologize for offensive cross talk in house. A homicide bureau joins multi- agency probe into missing Tobago toddler. Sister's teen nephew beaten in violent 2-hour penile home invasion. So there was a home invasion in Penile where two teen sisters and a nephew were subjected to all kind of threats, even threats to kill them um because they thought that they had some amount of money in the house. And I can you imagine 2 hours of that kind of trauma?
2 hours.
Ibraham Ragunan Road resident welcome stronger police presence.
Uh NIF reports 36.9 million quarter first quarter loss. The National Investment Fund holding company Limited recorded a net loss for the 3month period ending March 31st 2026.
Big turnout for Antigga Tourism Marketplace. Stronger demand for engineers coming says minister TNT roadboy team distances itself from Jamaica billboard. I don't know why Trin Tobago is involved in that conversation cuz road is road boy made media. I don't think so.
>> I know I haven't seen it.
>> Is a Trinidad Tobago product anyway. I don't know. It's a little confusing involved in everything. So >> yeah. So squatted to state over damage to property caused by Sando bypass.
And let me go to some business news. Well, not some business news. Let me go to some sports news first. Um, Desert Vipers Goose, is that how you pronounce that? Hail's ultimate franchise champion status as gsl as gsl evolves. Um Carter swims to 50 meter free Wellington win. So congrats to Dan Carter. I believe it is Cameron. I'm willing to help West Indies cricket corporate TNT wary of sports investments and and Charles and Pier spin red force to play off victory.
Um and uh there is an opinion piece um a selective morality and political convenience um which I suppose you could give a read >> um by Robert Lant. Um, so that's it in for the Trinan Tobago Garden for this morning. And I know we should move straight, you know what, sir Charles, move straight into um, did you know? So we could open up the lines since plenty people have a a problem with when we take calls.
IF I TALKING ABOUT REGGAE DANCE HALL, THAT IS CARIBBEAN MUSIC. YOU GOT THIS THING IN YOUR MIND THAT REGGAE AND DANCE HALL make up in cockpit country out with the maroons AND THEM. REGGAE AND DANCE EVOLVE FROM OTHER PEOPLE MUSIC. I'M TELLING YOU THE FACTS. DANCE OUT COME FROM REGGAE. REGGAE COME FROM ROCK STEADY. ROCK STEADY COMES FROM SCAR.
Scar comes FROM R&B IN AMERICA. AND MENTAL COMBINED YOU TAKE AMERICAN MUSIC AND COMBINE IT WITH MENTAL. MENTO IS JAMAICAN CALYPSO. Calypso is from Trinidad and Tobago. CALYPSO IS THE FIRST IDENTIFIABLE MUSIC CREATED in the Caribbean. YOUR FIRST MUSIC IN JAMAICA CALLED MENTO COMES OFF THE BACK OF TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO. SO WHEN YOU TELL me to keep out OF YOUR MUSIC, I CAN TELL YOU TO keep the out of Trinidadian music BECAUSE ALL YOU TAKE UP THE SOUND FROM THEM AND YOU DON'T NOTICE YOUR MUSIC EVOLVED FROM the Caribbean.
So if you want a coral with regal with Afro beat, WAIT TILL TRINIDAD CORAL WITH YOU CUZ you never give Calypso the the OTHERING RECOGNITION. YOU'LL BE ON SOCIAL MEDIA TALKING ABOUT so is Edot music. THE SAME EDOT MUSIC YOUR MUSIC EVOLVE FROM. BUT WHEN YOU GET UP AND YOU START TALKING LIKE PEOPLE TECH FROM YOUR MUSIC, REMEMBER THAT YOU TECH FROM PEOPLE MUSIC.
>> WELL, I was very passionate.
Yeah, that that piece of argument that always comes up, you know.
>> Yeah. But you she argued you before. Um I remember hearing that from way back I think even from Kitchener. I saw interview with Kitchener considering that issue. Um but yeah but yeah but she was very passionate uh very passionate language wise >> and that's the correct use sometimes of using you know language >> that is not considered you know appropriate >> that's a good um adjective use of it.
>> Yeah.
>> So now you know. Did you know? Now you know.
>> Now you know.
>> So yeah. So, at this point, it's now 10 to to the hour at 7:00 p.m. at 7:00 a.m.
Lord, my brain traveling. Um, and so, of course, um, you can start opening up the lines at this point before you have a poll. You know, we can have used the poll from yesterday that we didn't put the news. So, Charles, >> um, yeah, yeah, yeah, >> you have one. Yeah.
>> Yeah. I'm using the one that Virginia sent yesterday concerning the political parties.
>> Okay. Right. So anyway, um so like you saw I talked about the peace through war stuff um that AG Jeremy would have brought up yesterday in Parliament and then of course which was connected to that trending story in both both newspapers about some threat being made by a gang member in Belmont against parliamentarians. They didn't give the specificity of what the fudge actually said, but yeah. And the apparently, well, according to news last night, the commissioner of police did confirm. Um, the parole the parole bill was also passed in the lower house yesterday. And of course, that gives supervised release, but you know what parole is.
You see those movies. It gives you supervised release of people serving sentences to tackle the overcrowding of prisons. And um I think one of the components of it is that if when they're out on parole they commit any further criminal offense back to prison.
And yeah, so that was those are some of the main stories that were in the news last night that parole bill and and stuff like that. Um, of course, the midterm review is also due and we're not so sure what date it's in. The um the the the Minister of Finance, Minister of Time seems to be keeping that, you know, under wraps what day it will be. Last year, I think it was around June 18th if I'm if I could remember correctly. Of course, um Brian Manning is saying that of course that he knows what's going to be in the midterm review. It's just going to more blaming of the PNM, PNM, PNM, PNM, PNM. That's what Brian Manning said. And he said we are in a self inflicted recession. I don't know if we actually in a recession. I'm not sure because you know that there is a formula for that. But he certainly said we are in a self-inflicted recession.
>> Are we in a recession? I'm not sure.
>> I I don't know.
>> Anyway, those are just some of the main stories. I just wanted to get that out.
And of course the the um the lines are now open 2811315 and 2995156.
Wend should be joining us a little later. He would uh he a little under the weather. He has some people at you and go offended by that. Well, what can I say? Take your tablets.
>> Need to sleep. He need to sleep in the morning. Anyways, the lines are now open. 2811315 2811315 or 299-5156.
Um, you can now calling. It's official.
We're taking your calls.
>> Nice caller. Good morning, >> Virginia.
>> Oh, good morning. Good morning. Sorry about that.
>> Brian from Center didn't answer right away. Thank you. Hey, uh, I you know what? That is a great debate issue up to this day and speaking with some of my fellow Caribbean brothers and so on.
Just think of it as far as Calypso remember slave and the line he say how Calypso was born as our way of our people of African ancestry of you know ridiculing the slave master and stuff like that. So I think trader may be the first the first to maybe take it and make it a competition or put it on a national platform or whatever. But actually the origin of of Calypso came from all the islands because not only did trader have slaves, right, but the rest of the islands and thus is our first step in, you know, ridiculing master or master. So that's my theory.
So only don't hate on me and say anti TNT but I really think the origins of Calypso this is a real Caribbean um product Calypso because >> your theory is based on research or you just saying that off the top of here because you need to talk man Richard man no it's just the logic of it >> well according to um >> was all throughout African state throughout the entire Caribbean Well, just a quick Google on calypso music is a style of music that originated in Trinidad and Tobago from Afro Trinidadians during the early to mid 19th century and spread to the rest of the Caribbean anties by the mid 20th century.
>> So they have you know what talk to get get to Dr. Liverpool now we still have him and he could tell us if it really came from Tron. I mean, I've had this discussion with my fellow Caribbean brothers and sisters out here. We've had these discussions >> and we did not originate in Trinidad. Is that what you're saying?
>> Okay, no problem.
>> Are you saying it did not originate in Trinad? I just want to be clear on Trinidad. That was saying not just Trinidad. This is something that was originated somewhere. You're saying that first place is not Trinidad. Is that what you're saying?
Yeah, that was saying that first case wasn't Trinidad. Where's the evidence to show that? Where was it? Where was it?
Was it Antigga? Was it Dominica? Was it where where >> how we could do that? For example, when the wheel was invented and fire, could we tell where that was invented?
>> We know when we are given a counter point to come with your facts.
>> Okay. Anyhow, get the facts. Get the facts. Get the facts and show us where it came from.
Go back and forth with that argument this morning.
>> Tell us which island since it wasn't Trinidad. I >> Yeah.
>> Yeah.
>> Good morning to you, Lincoln.
>> Well done, Richard. Cuz this one just upset me this morning. Everybody knows as as I don't know you want to use the word invented but Trinidad is the birthplace of Kaliffo. You as a so-called Trinidadian, why would you stay in Virginia?
>> No. Don't don't abuse like that. Now, man, why you might not go down that road? Come on, >> gentlemen. Um, I have a situation I want to highlight. I passed in Valin um the former Valin teachers training college yesterday and I was mortified to see the condition of this facility.
This facility that was the good workplace of teachers to of educators for the country has it has left to be elapidated and overgrown with bushes. Um people te out all the all the cable trees going through rooms. Um it is just in a horrible condition. It is deplorable. It is heartbreaking to see what where our taxpayer taxpaying dollars are being left to deteriorate to. I mean this facility could even if they don't have enough teachers to facilitate that it could have been transfer trans transferred to a youth camp uh a a military base a police station a police barracks anything they could have re repurposed the facility for. But to just leave it abandoned, to just let grass grow up between it and and pipers come and teeth out everything, it was heartbreaking. I I have a I I have a video of it as I think I don't know if I sent it to you, but I'm going to send it to you so that you can see what I'm talking about.
>> So, it is being vandalized as at this point or >> it is when I was there, there was a man taking out copper wire.
>> Um um they had breakers. They already take out like a half dozen breakers on the ground. The panel is totally empty, gutted out. The electrical panel, cable wire being cut down.
>> It is ridiculous.
>> Okay, so right now they don't have any um they don't have any security or anything.
>> No security, no abandon.
Yeah, they abandoned the building.
>> They abandoned the building because the last the last set of people who was there when they had St. George's College was doing their thing there when St. George's was under repair. So to know that They would have left and they would have left to bring back that building the ceiling take down all the tiles taken out. It is ridiculous. I want to send the video to your searchers.
>> Okay, no problem. Thanks very much.
Yeah, it is if if that is the way they left it because I I remember when it they had um St. George's College was there when they were doing renovations to St. George's College in Barat area.
So the students were going there. Um but if they had after that they have left it to run down that's another sad indictment as to how we take care of things in Trinidad and Tobago.
Wow.
Anyhow people our poll is up. It came from Virginia asked us a question yesterday people.
>> Yep. Yep. It's from Virginia that we will ever move away voters from the PNM and the UNC, you know. Um, do you think that voters in Trinata will ever do that? What are your thoughts?
One for yes, two for no, you can see people already voting. So if you agree that voters if you think voters w will uh will voters ever vote for an op will voters ever vote other options than the PNM or UNC? If you agree that yes voters will you you vote one you just put in one and send that in the in the chat.
And if you disagree no they're not going to vote for any other party. You put two no and that's it. But you know you'll know the speed. You know how it works. I don't know how to explain it. Are we taking one more call before we go to the news break? Sir, Charles, or you >> we'll take them after because we already two and a half minutes past the news.
>> All right. You know, you'll have to do the covering of this because I'll be home late.
>> Yeah.
>> Okay. No problem. We'll be back after the newspaper continue. So, you can continue to vote right now.
The news you need, the clarity you deserve. Local, regional, global. This is Net Radio News Now.
>> This is News Now for Thursday the 14th of May on New Era TT radio, Net Radio, and Dial Caribbean TV. I am Derek McMillan. A pleasant day to you all. The Senate has approved a motion calling for opposition senator Janelle John Bates to be removed from the joint select committee on national security. Leader of government business Senator Daryl Alahar said concerns over trust and confidence arose after John Bates admitted to assisting former health minister Terrence Daling in altering a report submitted to a parliamentary committee. John Bates later apologized and offered her resignation but remained a member of the National Security Committee. During debate in the Senate, Alahar argued that her continued presence was affecting the committee's work and said senators should be guided by principle. The motion was eventually passed with 16 votes in favor, 13 against and one abstension.
Defense Minister Wayne Sturge says intelligence officials have confirmed that two recent deadly shootings involving children are connected. Sturge says senior members of the national security intelligence apparatus briefed him and confirmed links between last week's Belmont triple murder, which claimed the life of 2-year-old Akini Cathy and the quadruple murder in Morvant last month that killed 9-year-old Gelena Armstrong. The minister says his statements in parliament about the connection were based on intelligence information and not speculation. Sturge also criticized reports suggesting the murders were unrelated, saying such claims could jeopardize ongoing investigations.
Police investigations into both incidents are continuing.
Trinity City Maloney MP Camille Robinson Regis is criticizing the speaker of the house over the handling of ministers refusing to answer questions in parliament under standing order 283. Her comments follow Wednesday's sitting where the Homeland Security Minister invoked the public interest exemption to decline answering questions and the speaker supported the decision. Robinson Regis says MPs should still be allowed to challenge the basis for such refusals, warning that the standing order could become what she called an unchallengeable shield against scrutiny.
She says Parliament's role is to hold the executive accountable and not protect it from examination. Aruka Lepino MP Marvin Gonzalez also criticized the government, saying accountability to the public is not optional.
Homeland Security Minister Roger Alexander says the Police Service Homicide Unit is among several agencies involved in the investigation into the disappearance of 2-year-old Angelo Tobias Plaza of Goodwood, Tobago. The child was reported missing on May 11th, triggering a search operation involving police, the Coast Guard, fire service, emergency responders, and residents.
Speaking in Parliament, Alexander said the Child Protection Unit and Tobago investigators are also assisting in the probe. He told MPs that the child has not yet been found and investigations are continuing. Opposition MP Marvin Gonzalez questioned whether the matter was being treated as a homicide or a missing person case, but the speaker ruled that the minister had already addressed the issue in his response.
Energy Minister Rudal Munilal says there is no policy requiring the Ministry of Energy to issue public statements on small oil spills as he defended government's handling of the offshore spill reported earlier this month.
Speaking in Parliament, Monilal said the May 1st spill was classified as a minor tier 1 incident and argued there was no protocol requiring public advisories in such cases. He also accused the former administration of failing to disclose dozens of similar spills between 2019 and 2021.
The issue was raised by opposition MP and former energy minister Stuart Young, who questioned whether government officials had contacted Venezuela after authorities there claimed the spill affected parts of its coastline. Munilal said Trinidad and Tobago responded through diplomatic channels after Venezuela issued a communique on May 9th and a statement was later sent to Venezuela's ambassador in Port of Spain.
In international news, US President Donald Trump has arrived in Beijing for high level talks with Chinese President Xiinping amid growing tensions over trade, technology, and the conflict in Iran. Trump was welcomed by Chinese Vice President Hanzhen during a ceremonial reception at the airport ahead of the two-day visit. The leaders are expected to discuss tariffs, artificial intelligence, Taiwan, and efforts to ease tensions in the Middle East. Trump is also expected to push for greater access for American businesses in China and increase Chinese purchases of US products. The visit comes as both countries continue to navigate strained economic relations and rising competition over global influence and technology.

Okay.
All right. So we are back inside of the second hour of the breakfast show and of course you are here on radio and um yeah it's poll time. So this question that we're asking you all today, this question came in yesterday from one of our I like to consider to be the most miserable man on the net.
All right. So Virginia um put this question outside there yesterday and we were going to do it yesterday but for some reason we were not able to. We end up we end up talking about something else and that took precedent. So looking at how do you think that's going in Trinidad and Tobago when it comes to voting you know as David brothers say how we vote is not how we party but do you feel or will voters ever vote other options than the two main parties that we have in Trinidad and Tobago which is the PNM and the UNC.
All right. So that is the question that we are asking you all this morning. Do you feel that voters in Trinidad and Tobago will vote anything other than even if there there are other parties that will come up and over the time we have had different parties in between there uh but what are your thoughts? Do you think that at some point in time, do you see us moving away from the UNCC and the P&M?
Well, let's see how you vote. So, I'm going to try to go through your votes on the platforms. So, you may have to bear with me a little bit because Richard has not joined us back as yet and um when they'll seems to be totally out of it this morning, you know. Um I don't know who told him to go online last night, you know. Anyhow, so yeah. So let let's see what you what you are saying on the um on the on the chat. So we have Kit Carter saying one. Yes. And what did she say? No, you didn't vote. Right. So that is the WhatsApp.
And on the WhatsApp channel, we have two people saying no. All right. So, let me give you an overall an overall vote tally here because I can't tally all the um the individuals numbers, right? So, 66% of you said no.
that people in Trinidad and Tobago will not vote anything other than PNM and UNC. 66% of you believe the way that it is is Democrats and Republicans and 34% of you still have some hope that you know what things will change. 34% says yes we believe that at some point in time we are going to see a change taking place where the way people vote as I said David Ruther said it the way how we vote is not how we party so I am at this point in time I mean I would love to see a difference in the way that we vote I would love to see at some point in time, you know, um a new party or a new party will come forward and you will be able to have a a a different set of choices, but so far I I I don't see it on the on the horizons right now. Um the way our thing it kind of set up to kind of hard for new parties to come through this political thing they really call it political science you know a science behind it and I think it is designed in a way if you don't have strong backings you could be kept out of the thing if you don't have good monetary support um and good people behind you to make a But we we like we might be stuck with this situation for a long long time because to make a difference in Tobago. How much seats you had to get? Now we have 41 seats. So that mean you had to go over that threshold to win 21 22 seats to form a government.
Um a new party might come along. They may have one maybe two good strong individuals. Most of the parties that we have seen so far um coming forward in the past we had the NTA with Gary Griffith um Gary a strong individual in between there um out front but who else bes be behind him to make that difference that people can say well yeah I like Gary Gary's a strong one and I can recognize these other individuals are strong individuals um who could make a difference. Um we have not been able to get that. So it kind of hard for a party to go and look for 21 and 22 people to move what we have out of power. So when the election comes you see that okay you have the P&M strong the UNCC strong and that is why you have the all these other smaller parties that join well P&M does go up the road al alone they just win alone does lose alone um but the other parties will amalgam themselves as we have seen with the partnership as it is right now couple smaller parties got involved and their main players are now part of of the government but other than that I I don't I don't know when we will be able to get out of that situation if we'll be able to get out of it but we can take your calls right um 2811315 or 2995156 you can um join us on the platform this morning you know Richard has not joined me back as yet and when that is out this morning. We don't have a guest. So, um you can you can get in on the conversation. We'd love to hear from you. Um but it's it is something that, you know, we would hope at some point in time we might be able to get over that bridge, you know. Um a a lot of smaller parties, splinter groups come, some of them you don't hear about anymore. I I saw the other day Michaela Pandy was you know making some noise but for how long you know and how far good morning s >> morning bishop >> boy good morning I you know I don't want to get in this yellow and red and you know it is we we we we we have a situation where it's difficult to change politically because of who financing the polit So that's another story itself.
>> Why go on this morning about is to speak about an activity that dealing with crime and generational curse. Let's start to speak about generational curse is another issue because people don't understand when you say generational curse what it really means and I want to tell them what it means this morning.
Generational curse is a pattern of negative behavior or circumstances that are passed down through generations affecting family members, the community, the country and crime in general.
Right. and and and that curse came about from rituals of our ancestors, animal sacrifices, sacrifices to babies, ancestry spirits and even in the in the past the minister used to go to the church to go to the the burial ground and commit the body, commit the spirit, ask the archangel Michael and Ra to come and take this place out of this realm onto the realm of our creator or or architect anyone you want to be. Now the priest does not go to the cemetery you dead. So when you go to the cemetery, you going and you go sing some song and you you clap little bit and you cry and you go with the body and that spirit remain wandering in the realm wondering especially if they were murdered in the area in which they were murdered and creating confusion and crime in the country. Now I am speaking about a big task and the only we can address that issue is if we have the assistance of the state. The state have to GIVE SOME ASSISTANCE BECAUSE the book in the book of Nemiah was blessed.
Ezra was preaching to the women and children. Nemiah was bet and he also had a sword in his hands because you have the evil elders, evil spiritual leaders who are mounting the criminals mounting the block so as to prevent the police prevent being caught and the state can handle that. The state can deal with that. We are talking about a spiritual problem that the country is facing and for us to deal with it the state has to have some responses some responsibility in funding the situation there there many attempts to have meetings that they have one classes for the 22nd of May and three corners but there's no funding for it and the only it could be successful is this state make a commitment to the funding.
They're spending billions on crime and they need to spend a little we are spiritual leaders to intervene in this issue that affected our country.
That is my concern and that what I want to be dealing with >> in the next week or so.
>> Thank you for the time.
>> Okay. No problem. Thanks. Thanks very much. Um Bishop talking there about you know the unseen um in the spiritual realm when people die and they are not properly committed to their transitional um their transitions. Yeah. Right. And um what happens to that spirit if it roams and just creating mischief in in in some areas because you know what it is not settled.
Um, and I know it's something that most some people may not really believe in, you know, um, that spirit that is that Roman spirit, but it, you know, um, I I I suppose, you know, it there's um a lot of merit in it, bishop. So, but we have some modern day um preachers and and and other persons who do funerals and stuff and modern day people are doing it totally different. Yes. All the time. Yeah. Uh Princess Song. Good morning.
>> Good morning, sir. Charles, >> morning. Um I I want to say first that um in this country as in most democracies we have a um a requirement that we acknowledge all religious groups and therefore we will have different practices and different beliefs.
Um so I think that should cover um issues of that media you know um is a multi-ethnic society. Now um uh in respect to the issue of whether we would have other parties um that is democracy even right now in England uh while they have had uh the wigs and the tories which evolve into the the conservatives and the labor party over the centuries and generally in democracies you have a two-party system there's no limitation for other parties to evolve right now the the most dominant party in England in the in the polls is a party by the name of reform. So that but ultimately reform is a party on the right. So, so you might find that um they might associate with the conservatives and and another party the the the liberal democrats they emerge and they would would tend to to associate with the Labor Party. Um also the Greens would associate with the Labor Party. So um our life is short you know in the in in in in the context of our nation. So that the expectation is more than likely in the future things will change just like oh it didn't have a P&M they had the PPG um I I I don't know about it but history would tell you that you know so that that is why you find um um to say that that would not in your lifetime but ultimately things would change that democracy itself facilitates that now I want to address before I go the issue of Calypso.
Um, if the question is whether contemporary Calypso is a Trinidadian thing, I would say yes. But I wouldn't be uh have take a narrow view and say Calypso really originated in Trinidad and Tobago. If you look at the history of Calypso um I remember um one time I think it was the Royan Lon used to say Calypso originate in France. Um now Calypso is a combination of music generally Afro African music and if you read the history of Calypso you would see that slaves with all the shel and all that used to they they used to sing what we call Calypso a different version to ease the work >> right >> and and um Trinidad was really a a a place that was sort of dormant while the rest of the Caribbean was alive. Trinad became alive in 1786 or somewhere around there when um the British fearful that that that um or the Spanish fearful that the British were going to invade Trinidad and Tobago allowed the French to come to Trinidad and Tobago with the French so that um Roaring Lion wasn't completely wrong because the French slaves who used to sing calypo. If you really listen to Caribbean music, you will see that even kasab and roo all across the Caribbean generally sing a form of calypo. So is not is more a west Indian slave tradition. But togo embrace it and make it what it is now and we tend to be the leader in it. But I I think to just to say well originate in Trinad is not is a disservice to all the other Caribbean um islands where they sang that form of music you know um should we say that cas that that singing the the the Dominican or the the the St. ution for of copying Trinity. Should we say that if you look at Jamaican history um when Jamaica is was about to become independent, the government basically gave them a mandate to try to develop their own form of music, you know, because what they had in Jamaica was was technically a for also, you know, and and what did they come up with in Jamaica? and he came up with the scar, right? Um, I remember when I was a boy, I used to hear a particular scar tune.
Um, I can't remember the name of the artist now, but was a Jamaican artist living in in in England, you know. Um, and if you look at Bella Fonte, he was his parents were Jamaican, but he was born in the US and he used to sing along. Now if if you look at they would say Harry Bellonte made popular Trinidad and Tobago music. So I would I would say that we are in the forefront of modern day calypso but to say that calypo originated in Trinidad and Tobago I think that that I don't know is that what Virginia was trying to explain but but there's a wider view there rather than just to say calypso originate in train there's no steel >> there may have been other I think there may have been other forms of it becoming calypso but calypso as a word and as a name for the art form originated in Trinant Tobago. There may have been other forms that contributed to it which is what I think you're talking about.
But the name Calypso and what that name represents is considered by the planet to have originated in Trinad and Tobago.
And I remember watching an interview with Lord Kiter where he talked about that scar beat in Jamaica and he said that scar beat came from Calypso from Trindal in Tobago. I remember watching a interview with um Kitchener about that when I was a little boy and I was and I was like when I I was like wait what because I I didn't I didn't you know I wasn't informed at that point about it and whereas there were contributing forms to the calypso art form which is what I think the last caller was making and which is true the form of it in the form that became calypso is considered said to have originated in Trinary and Tobago.
All of the other forms that contributed to it, we're not taken away from that for it to eventually be called this thing become called Calypso.
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah. like so many other so many other you know that that we that we use today um eventually when it became it its natural rounded form they would say well yes well this belongs here and this belongs here but it a lot of it may have started with other individuals you know so >> yeah yeah yeah so I'm going to speech on that >> and and and that's fine and and you know what all music to be how I look at music All music belongs to all of humanity.
Whatever music it is, >> right? Yeah. Um, good morning.
>> I don't see it as territorial.
>> Yeah. But, you know, as I said, people certain things because, you know, um, thing. But um >> but I mean the girl who the girl who you had on today but with but >> the girl who you had on today with did you know she was just passionate because obviously this was a continuation of some argument that she was answering too.
>> Yeah. Yeah she was.
>> Um uh so she was sure she was answering that but I mean I I am not into that argument about >> you know um Jamaican music and Trinat music etc etc. Whatever music you like, you like.
And music as I'm far as I'm concerned belongs to humanity.
>> It came from all of us.
>> So whether it be classical music, if you feel to listen to Mosart, that's fine because it's human music.
You're not going to say, "Oh, I ain't going to listen to Mos because you come from wherever and why all of that."
>> Yeah. Yeah. So somebody somebody come with with this ingredient, somebody come with that ingredient, but eventually you know what? We have a take, right?
>> Yeah. Yeah. But she said that they were calling SOA and Calypso idiot music. I think that's what she was responding to.
>> Yeah.
>> Some Jamaicans were calling it idiot music.
>> Yeah, she she and that is what she was she was really pushing through.
>> Yeah.
>> Lincoln, >> morning. Um Richard, you just Well, I'm glad that you came in because you explained it almost perfectly, right?
Because um yes, every the Caribbean has its input in and and and Calypso was formed from a little input a little quick, but um Jamaica ended up with well, Haiti ended up with their version of music. uh Jamaica ended up with their version of music but Calypso it it ended up in the music that was formed in Trinidad and Tobago is what was called Calypso you understand so it's not and everybody don't have their own thing um but I digress you you explained it perfectly Richard I don't need to beat a dead horse okay that's what I was calling back to say so but thank you very much Richard for coming back on and explaining that how you did >> okay thanks Uh, Captain Ron, good morning.
>> Good morning, gentle people. Uh, listen.
Um, first of all, I think uh, what Virginia has been doing, what he did there is is giving people in the rest of the Caribbean an excuse is arming them with something to argue and take claim to fame for Calypso. Because I I had a disagreement here with somebody from Antigga many many moons ago. He he swear and and then he had a Trinidadian who's married to Antigga and living in Antigga backing him up and saying that Calypso and Pan originated from in Antigga in Barbuda and I had to stand my ground. So but so that uh I think Virginia need to rethink that and and come again. Um also Richard very nice explanation because that's what I heard long time. I heard it from Sparrow at Titina that what went up uh Sparrow put it this way. Reggae is is like the big the analogy he used he said it's like that big strong young man there 21 year old man there in the corner and his grandmother is that old little lady over there the old iso the strong man is is this strong young man is Jamaica right is so the thing is also I and I want to um we need to stand our ground on this this is official we need to stand our ground and stop going all over the So Mr. Virginia be careful because people put something in there in the >> All right, Captain R. I'm coming.
>> Uh yeah, are you hear me?
>> Yeah, I'm hear you now. Go ahead.
>> Okay. Can I say this? I'm gone. Uh Richard said this morning uh accordance to the uh good work that TTPS with the solving of arresting people and stuff.
Let me tell you I think that is that is not accurate because uh all the the uh fame has to go and thanks got to go to Mr. Yan Allen because since last week he is the one somebody he has this anonymous line where people put information and don't give any names and he did it. He is the one who took all of the he went by the house where the young lady lived and got all the people involved and then give it to his friend who was one of the police inspectors and now they're able to make an arrest after they >> Oh, okay. But I I didn't know I didn't know that that context. I didn't know that.
Yes. So I I just like to give credit where credit is. That's about it.
Anyway, guys, have a good day. Be listening.
>> Yeah, that conversation um to narrow it down as where it actually came. I remember there was a there was an interview even Bob Marley had said that too, you know, that the Calypso influenced regga music because the Calypso was their first, you know. Um so um I was trying to find it, you know, I saw it somewhere along the line, but I I remember that um Bob Mali himself was actually saying that that the the reggae came out of um of the Calypso.
Yeah. So that that that conversation as who owns it, but everybody come a piece of the pie, you know. Um good morning.
Yes.
Good morning.
>> Good morning, Richard.
>> Morning.
>> Good morning.
>> So, I want to find out something. What happened in parliament yesterday? What transpired in parliament yesterday by by the utterances of the attorney general.
He said that they got they have information that some gang leader was going to do something to the parliament. Innesota had to protect the parliamentarians and it was confirmed by the commissioner of police. Right.
>> Yeah.
>> Is it that today's the 14th of May? We have like just over like two weeks again to go before this end of this SOE.
Is it that there's a kind of a stepping stone to institute another state of emergency >> because change of >> huh let me hear >> well I think well I I think this is going to be there was the 15 days then they went into this three months so this will be the second threemonth period if they were to go into SE And I want to believe they will because they they are cowtowing to the police and and them saying we need the SOE because they want to function in an abridged rights situation and that and and for that second extension of 3 months they don't need they just need a simple majority. It's the third extension is where the m the special majority will kick in that they will need the support of you know I think at least independent senators in terms of that. M yeah >> extension coming up they don't need really any um assistance really >> so okay my problem is that this current commissioner police since he has been there I think it's July one why can't why can't you just do his work because like everything for him he said have x y z but you had to work on But we have s coming. So wait, they're not just mandling the gangs. More come, more come. As far as they get rid of some more come. I I just you know it's getting so nothingness for me that I'm not even believing what they're saying again. So you said Belmont because they had a triple murder. You come and say now in that area threatening the lives of these certain people parliamentarians. You said that before about something else. When all they will stop, I don't want to say the word because I can't say that word. But when will they stop not speaking the truth?
Well, they see well but I don't know if they are going to stop because they see an SOE as a crime fighting tool and from the time you look at as a state of emergency in our constitution as a crime fighting tool and because we have no civil liberties union or lobby in Trinidad Tobago because we're a small space so you don't have aggressive um agencies like that that challenge everything. We don't have that here. It means the rest of the society just a seed and say okay that's what they're doing that's what they're doing and they move on. Um but yeah, but that it's clear that they see the SOE as a crime fighting tool, which it is not, but that's what they see it as.
And they're going to utilize it because the police are going to say they want it because the police don't want to be feted in their minds by these these little foolish things called um citizens rights and having to get go through the trouble of getting a search warrant and stuff like that. I didn't want to have to go through all of that. So, so obviously they're using it as that tool in terms of dealing with the crime situation and some citizens are fine with that.
Some are fine with that.
Any news and come back now, we continue the discussion on the other side of of the news. Right.
The motion was eventually passed with 16 votes in favor, 13 against, and one abstension.
Tin City Maloney MP Camille Robinson Regis is criticizing the speaker of the house over the handling of ministers refusing to answer questions in parliament under standing order 283.

>> Good morning to Charles and Richard.
Where's Wendell?
>> He drank a little too much last night.
>> Lord, you had a little celebration and like you overdo it.
>> All right, I'll excuse him. What is going on at Holy Name Confront?
I am seeing all over social media. Well, actually on Mother's Day, well, the night they highlighted a video with Sister Renie Paul who I think she's the acting principal and two students saying how she's so nice and she like a mother to them and whatever. And the next day, former Julian started calling the media and saying how she was so cruel and she she wicked and all she the trauma they put her through. And right now they have a petition a thousand something signatures because I think the ministry want to make her the principal and they said no way. So I said but what madness is this? Let me tell you something.
social in our time we didn't dare do that but students children right now they coming out they're speaking out and I am saying the ministry and the Catholic board needs to investigate this because well I think I said they investigating it and I hope it doesn't end up like the Saga report I pray and hope we get some results and get to the bottom of this.
Have a blessed morning.
>> Yeah. Okay. Thanks. Thanks very much. Um is the go Martin. Yeah. But that whole holy name situation. We we are hearing a lot about it but we don't know exactly what is the actual complaint of the student. Well, online you're hearing people say that the lady was wicked and she was bad and she did this and did that and um the number of complaints to the Catholic board and they have not been um treating with the situation or they have um elevated her to uh to being principal of the school and it's not sitting well with with some of those who are present and even um some of those students who have passed. and parents also you know so I I don't know where the investigation will go but it I think there's an investigation if the cataly now to get busy before they get busy now caller good morning >> good morning two points sir Charles I I'll just spring up from what what um your last caller said there what you are saying because what constitutes wicked we just call the police wicked because they enforcing the for all you wicked.
You understand? It may simply be this this nun enforces the law and this is what students do like why they would call the woman with him. Now unless you tell me somebody's making allegation that she has been physically abusive, she's been sexually abusive. She's been any kind of abusive or or you know victimizing people or that that is grounds for the the allegations that they're making, >> right? But just enforcing the law and you find it she she bad for enforcing the rules doesn't constitute not the woman not getting the job. So unless we have the details and the find information I I'm I poll yesterday I am staying far away from that right call about you know me I I my my fetish is DCPS and I want to endorse what Captain Ron said this morning for two reasons. One, I think I saw somewhere that the police acknowledged Ian Alen for the information that led to the arrest. When I saw that, I got furious because I said the police can't do the what I does is the bare minimum. You know, doesn't do no heighten um surveillance and this just goes and ask question the bare minimum. So you telling me the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service and have all the resources that have all this bud the highest budget in the country had to rely on Ian Allen to get information to to get an arrest that is as far as I concerned. Right. The other thing too I saw the police this is not from me this is not from some journalist somewhere. The police statistics say that they have solved 15 I believe it's either 30 or 15 murders for this year.
I don't know if you saw that that article.
>> No, I did I did not I did not see that and that how much? 300 >> 300.
Um sir Charles >> Yeah. when your organization put out a release that you you have charged 15 people out of 300 that is why you put out a note that is ridiculous that is not something to congratulate the police about right and by their own admission to I third one by their own admission their detection rate is is the is in the one digit of figures and I didn't say that nobody put up getting that figure. They put those figures out. The detection rate is 8% or something like that.
>> Yeah, it's it's it's um detection rate is low as you saw that right. So me making it up, you know, I just call a spade a spade. These figures are not making up. This is what the police put out. That is nothing to when you get one arrest. Congratulations to the TTS. No, >> no.
Right. I will congratulate you for that one arrest. But the general performance is poor.
>> Okay. Okay. No problem.
>> All right.
>> Yeah. Thanks. Thanks very much. Uh Lincoln and >> what performance is poor? What performance is poor? I'm now coming to the end there.
Lincoln was um was complaining that um well the police had to um compliment or congratulate he and Allen for getting some information that they use either to >> Oh, the same thing that the the guy when we were just before we went to the news, >> right? So >> the guy was saying Yeah.
>> Yeah. So you were saying but he find that thing because the the police is the one who's supposed to find the information. But Ian Allen is just like a source you know um he is just like any other source that um would give the police information. The police um depends on people's sharing information. Now some people may not be comfortable with sharing the information with the police. You understand? So Ian Allen might be the one that they may be comfortable sharing the information with. Maybe he has a track record when they share information with him. The information don't go anywhere else or they you know people have that kind of confidence. So maybe that is why he's he's getting all that information that he's now able to turn on turn over to the police. So intelligence information I I suppose regardless of wherever it come from once together that's the main thing good morning.
>> Yes.
>> So I when um I think it's not 15 detections no it's 11.
It's 11 right.
Yeah.
security said that I say in my mind he ashamed to say that he ashamed because 11 >> 11 out of out of 300 so far that's what is that >> that is not counting the previous years know some of these people were held for murders before that you know like a few years ago so you know some what you call cold I don't think it cold after two years cold is like city years and so on right but anyway um Ian Allen said that people call him and they give him information because they could trust him. So therefore because they they cannot trust the police, right? So when we cannot trust the police, they give him information.
Sometimes I'll go to now and then when I'm there.
>> Um they go to he goes to police and then he call police officer and they come and they do what they do. like you know the two guys who got burnt up in the in the arm car he was the one who was instrumental in getting the police to know who it is and four person were charged I think yesterday or appeared in court yesterday so the police detection is poor poor poor very poor and and all they're doing is garanching and in parliament I kind of disgusted looking at big big men on both sides I mean had to jump in the but because it had a defend I get so they're not even discussing the thing in a kind of civil ways and it has set up [ __ ] here there and everywhere. What is the parliament coming to and all you want to talk about children? What the children following the older man who got um beaten up. Look at their behavior when they were beating up this poor man. Dead the same way they ganging up on people. Guys are going in parliament ganging up on people. I just friend for the last year and how much the country is like always on edge.
always always always on edge and that way seems to be changing and it's because of us you know we we people to know we >> okay thank thanks so much um the last year I think is BN for a long long time uh good morning um gentlemen I agree with in because I was telling something. You know we call not what we call the police wicked when they're trying to enforce it over. You know we are called wicked when taxpayers who want to get information with respect to what is happening in our country in the parliament only have to hear when questions are being posed to the government section 283 having Jack Singh as the speaker of the house of represents who who cramps the opposition style when they're trying to put important questions to get answers from the citizens of this country who paying taxes every These people in government are on a five years occasion and they are using the FE for once of a better word to [ __ ] foot their way through and waste taxpayers money and put it in the pocket. I go on you know that that that happens um regardless to to who's in power. You always find that somebody is always complaining that somebody the the speaker is is always suppressing them or the speaker is um working. But at the end of the day, we don't have independent um individuals that we put there. All the parties are responsible for putting their people in these spaces. So um I I know we would like to think that we have independentminded individuals in some so um places but the reality of it is that um a lot of these people are basically looking after their their people and their parties needs and it's not now it's a long long time. caller.
Good morning.
>> Yes, good morning. One question I would like people to start to ask with respect to the what you're all discussing.
How much suspects with respect to these have already been killed by other people?
That's a good question to ask. Thanks very much.
>> All right. Thank you. No problem.
28113152995156.
We boarding on 8:30. Let me say good morning to the G people. If they will be leaving us at any point in time, we thank you so much and look forward to your company again uh tomorrow. All right. So, if you if for some reason we lose you within the GL feed right now, we thank you so much for spending this time with us this morning. Um, Lincoln, you're back with us.
>> Yes, I am. Two qu two two points I'd like to make.
>> Right.
>> Start with the last one. That caller asks a million dollar a billion dollar question. Right. And I would explain why. It has been my experience in the in the military services and I I I make no apologies for this that that is what happens 99% of the time. John killed Jane and before police get the evidence to prove that because information is not evidence. Police know John killed Jane.
No, but they don't have the evidence. And but before they could acquire the evidence, Jane brother Peter killed John.
And before they could get the information, the evidence that Peter killed John, >> John cousin Jame Henry killed Peter. And that is how the cycle going on in in crim in in the criminal under trial at Tobago. So it is difficult. I understand it is difficult for the police to capture, arrest, detain and charge everybody.
But you see in the absence of information, when the police keeps everything hush, the society goes along with the belief and the perception that the police not working. And until unless and until the police recognize the need to up to utilize programs like be on the tape better, they need to wear body cameras and create a a a whole other program to prove what happens on the streets to make themselves more val um more marketable.
Unless they have a the weekly press conference and they bring forward information to the public that we know how to wonder and speculate and in the absence of information rumors start to spread, misinformation start to spread.
Unless they do that, the society will the confidence rate in the police service will will remain low and continue to drop lower.
>> Okay.
>> Right. So, and I for the first point that I wanted to make >> Oh, no problem.
>> Oh, no, no, no. I got it. I got it. I I think I had it. left me again. I'll call back.
>> Yeah. Yeah. All right. Thank you. No problem. Dean, good morning to you.
>> Hello. Yeah, man. Yeah. Yeah. Um Yeah.
Well, that was interesting. The interesting thing with that is when I was talking to commologist when based in Toronto, what they were talking about in capturing people is that the phone, the phone with a new generation, everything on the phone, the text, the messages, the all the kind of thing. And they they generally have I know some people must have the whatever burner phone and thing and but they say generally that is the um a kind of anthropological kind of thing uh in the young people they how they operate right and I don't know what is our situation with the cyber attacking holding all that and that's another aspect that we could explore or you all could explore when you're interviewing in people. Um but but the other one I wanted to jump in was the the thing with the Calypso and I think what Princess Town was saying is that the original story could although there's an African ancestral there's the geographical French creole coming to Trinidad bringing their version of lamentation resilience and then into a space and when you bring it into a space that face it changes it evolves into something else. So we have these kind of genealogies or uh uh that that more of the music. It's the same thing with the scar. The story behind the scar when people talk about that was that is the movement of people musicians were moving across the Caribbean and carrying the the rhythms of the calypso to the 30s and up the islands. and all. So there was the uh one one other aspect of is that that the carnival the police band at that time used to move up and down the the thing and they carried music they carried the music up and down so that migratory thing again so what we seeing is a migratory of different cultural France Spain Brit with the African um lamentation and resilience music. So I think we what you could say is that we have a French creole with an African ancestral landing in Trinidad and evolving something which is which when you look at our architecture we also see that the architecture have three distinct versions of things unlike the other Caribbean thing. Same thing with POV.
All our boats in all the islands are designed differently. You ever notice that? Grenada have a different boat. We have Pirro.
>> Um, Barbados boats are different. S Vincent boats are different. Every boat in every island is built and designed differently. But when you bring it into space, it evolves within the space. And I think so Princeton has a point and we we always had a look at the anthropology of how music evolves and then the science go backs up just >> all right. Yeah. Thanks very much Jane and and you're right and I I agree with you where that is concerned because even right here even if we just stay with the SOA and into um the Calypso into SOA into Jamu into rap. So you know all all that is is that evolution of the of the um of the art form that has taken on so many different looks and then we we especially with the with the chutney and and all the all those different things I you know so I I can understand that evolution taking place and then everybody is always ambitious every generation wants to bring their own thing. So um when somebody's doing a particular type of music um especially things like music somebody always feels that hey you see that I going to create my own beat that's my beat everybody want to stamp the name on something yeah um >> take the next call to talk about you know the independence of speakers and stuff like that because they come from the party which is true but let me correct you from a historical point of view. The most even-handed speaker and the speaker considered the one with the most integrity and discipline and evenhandedness was the one from 1962 to 1981 by the name of Pitus Arnold Tamasus.
So get your facts straight. There is nothing on the hands that ever he was ever accused of being partisan. Even though he was appointed by the PNM and Dr. Eric Williams, he has never been accused of being partisan. He was always very evenhanded and not that because he was my grandfather and >> Oh, okay. I know that would I know you would never do anything like that.
>> Yeah. No, just setting the record straight.
>> Yes. Yes. Yes. What What was What was your grandfather's name?
>> Citus Arnold Tamasus.
>> Okay. I think I heard about him. Yes.
Yes. A bastion of integrity.
>> Yeah.
>> Okay. No problem. Thank you very much, Richard, for the clarity.
>> Yeah, you got the clarity. You got the clarity.
>> Nice. Nice. But everybody else after that, trust me, downhill.
Call her. Good morning.
>> What? Richard, you come from good stock, boy.
Anyway, what I I call I remember the um point that I wanted to make. Anybody have has anybody noticed that primarily under this government every time this government is comes into office there's a threat against the ministers.
Let me predict what's going to happen in the next few in the next few weeks. Um all kind of mundane ministers they're going to be threat against the life and they're going to get escort and blue light and and security. Julian John um Anna Roberts an Roberts all kind of min ministers in in no min no life threat ministry is going to get blue lights and escort and security mark my word those signs say this is a strategy that the UNCC government always uses right the side effect might be to extend the state of emergency but I feel the primary purpose has be to give ministers negative friends escort and blue lights.
Oh, good morning, gentlemen.
>> Yeah. Well, all right. But I I I mean the theater plays off any which way you take it, you know. Um so no doubt about it is that I don't think the government is at a a particular point where they have done anything major besides the stage of emergency to push back crime and and criminals and that sort of thing. Um I don't even and and and I don't even think that they have outlined anything that they wanted to do. That is why the state of emergency is staying there. Um the tangible that any citizen can remember to say okay is because we need to beef up on u forensic. We need to get the courts going. The DPP office is going to be more staff. And so while we get these things in order, we have to use the state of emergency and that has not been declared. So I I suppose it's going to be more of the same going forward. state of emergency five years down the road. Um, caller, good morning.
>> Good morning, sir. Charles, Richard, Charles, I have never heard sit any standing order not to answer a question.
I have never heard Dr. use any standing order not to answer a question. I have never heard members of the PNM use any standing order not to answer a question. So I don't know why they try to equate the PN and say and all around and you see what Richard said is a fact and the one-sidedness if you want to look at it from a partial standpoint has been less biased on the PNM side as against in the nation and now in this This speaker is a true ocean and he has we make no apology for being that biased and one-sided in his judgment.
I go on.
>> Yes. Thanks very much, Cord. you know, and um now I I am not professing to say that I would remember everything that happened, but I remember there were times in the past where the speaker when the PM was in office that would be um accused of certain things by the opposition then also. So I don't know I don't have that direct information for your caller but I am sure if I ask somebody in the in the in the government right now if I call for example if I call Anel right now and I say Anel give me some examples of so and so when they were thing and the speaker shut them down I am sure he will give me about 40 instances where it would have happened you know so I am I because I'm sure it happens it may not happen probably as much or or maybe it it it might be more glaring now because of what is taking place but I I don't feel a situation that that does not happen you know so that is how it is Richard um if there anything we could probably leave it there for today I have some things to go check on before I get into the next program also >> all right so that's where we wrap it up then of course uh today is Thursday and we can begins tonight people.
You know, we love our weekend. So, tomorrow is Friday. You could start smiling and taking a deep breath. Uh the weekend is here from midnight tonight.
