The US Ambassador to Canada, Pete Hoekstra, made controversial comments suggesting Canadians are unreasonable for opposing US trade policies, including tariffs and alcohol bans, which the speaker criticizes as gaslighting that ignores US actions like imposing 20-50% tariffs on Canadian industries and threatening to take Canada as the 51st state; the speaker argues that ambassadors should take accountability for their country's policies rather than blaming other nations for their reactions.

The U.S. Ambassador Thinks CANADIANS Are Unreasonable (American Reaction)Added:
What's going on everyone? Uh, I'm just a typical average American here today to react to some comments from the US ambassador to Canada, Pete Hora, where it sounds like he basically said that it's Canada who's the one in this relationship that's being totally unreasonable.
And I believe they have a term for this kind of thing. Uh it's called gaslighting.
You know, when someone who's done something wrong and they probably know it and then they try to try to spin it around to make it feel like you did something wrong, like you're the crazy one. Except usually this kind of behavior I is reserved for like your deadbeat ex-boyfriend or something, right? So, not a US government representative, you know, like, but that's the day and age we're living in here, I guess. But, so today, I really want to check this out and see for myself what exactly was said by the US ambassador to Canada. So, let's take a look. The US ambassador to Canada is once again airing his country's frustration and disappointment with Canada.
It's so annoying to think that this guy actually represents me and like any American citizen cuz it's like he's airing our country's grievances and like what we're unhappy about. What about everything we're unhappy about here that we're doing to ourselves and to other people? What are it's so m okay this is the two countries prepared to embark on a big review of their key trade deal. Now one of those frustrations is the Canadian bans on American alcohol. But when asked by radio Canada if removing those bans would lead to a loosening of tariffs, Pete Hookster said this. No, I mean, we think the uh we think the alcohol ban is totally unfair. It's a clear indicator of how 11 provinces feel about trade with the United States.
Is this guy is he okay? Like, I feel like this is such common sense that he's totally missing. It's going right over his head. He's like, there's so much to unpack here. First he's like, well, he's saying they're feels like a bunch of provinces in Canada are like not interested in doing trade and business with the United States. It's like they're mad at us.
Yeah, that's the point that Yes, if you asked them about it, they would probably openly say, "Yeah, we're not happy with the US. We're not happy with you. We are purposefully trying to make things difficult because you guys did it to us.
So, it's so getting a little worked up here, man. But it's like he it's like he he's supposed to be the the US representative of the United States, our liaison to to Canada, and it's like he really doesn't get it. like the most obvious, yeah, Canadians and Canadian businesses and and Canadian customers are actively boycotting the United States. It's not an accident. It's not like you don't understand what you're doing. It's on purpose. It's for a specific reason to to show your disapproval of us. That's the point. So when he sits here in his little chair with the American flag behind him and has the audacity to be like, "Yeah, I' I've noticed like it it almost seems like Canadians don't want to do trade with us."
Duh.
Okay.
>> No, I mean, we think the uh we think the alcohol ban is totally unfair. It's a clear indicator >> that as well. um the the the audacity to say that the alcohol ban so like American alcohol isn't being sold in a lot of parts of Canada. It's a way uh to protest us basically and uh to say that that is what's unfair. Yeah. What an incredibly short-sighted one-sided small like no ability to look outside his small little worldview where the United States is the only thing in the universe that matters to him. Like that's what's unfair.
Not that the United States started this whole insane tariff, trade war, not willing to negotiate, threatening Canada, wanting to take it as the 51st state, wanting to take Greenland, bombing Iran. Okay, we're getting like out as an American like it there's so much insanity that has been going on with us towards Canada and now like that's not even all of it that we're doing even more unbelievable stuff in other parts of the world. So yeah, it's and it's like I guess Donald Trump like purposefully picks representatives like this because for for this exact quality that they are completely blind to any fault that the United States may have or taking any accountability for all of this. I guess this is on purpose because I I can't imagine why this guy would be the ambassador for any other reason.
>> No, I mean we think the uh we think the alcohol ban is totally unfair. It's a clear indicator of how 11 provinces feel about trade with the United States. Uh you know, they're saying sending a very very clear message about how doing business with the United States doesn't appeal to them. the prime minister has reinforced that >> uh message. Okay. Um, and >> yeah, that was like a a big reason that Mark Carney gained a lot of popularity.
like is that like a year ago now or whenever the the Canadian elections were being held where uh Mark Carney really made a big push in promoting his ability to stand up to the United States and really ever since like Mark Carney has kind of become like this almost global spokesperson not just for Canada and Canadian interests although he's he's doing a lot for that but like a global like figure in the the movement away from the United States because I think Canada is uniquely positioned to lead that movement cuz you guys are literally joined to us at the hip in in North America. We're right next to each other. were entrenched in each other in so many ways connected and and if so it's like if Canada is making all these efforts to to lower its reliance on the US to move to other trade avenues and other partnerships if Canada is doing that the one that's literally attached to the US it kind of shows the rest of the world like they can do it too and and be fine which you know is terrible for us, but I don't think I can I can really blame you at this point.
>> So, it it creates some questions about, you know, does Canada really want to do business with the United States?
>> Again, I can't take this seriously.
Like, what what do you what do you mean in uh 2026 we're still asking these questions? This is what the US government is still thinking about. Like they're in their little boardroom, their cabinet meetings like and Pete Hogre is up there with his little like pointer PowerPoint presentation. Like it seems I don't know but I'm getting the feeling Canada doesn't like us that much. It's like what? He's saying it like he discovered copper or something. I don't know. The US ambassador then went on to say he still doesn't understand why Canadians could be so frustrated by Donald Trump's tariffs.
And I like how this rightfully like this is like Canadian news. You can't even find this on like American mainstream news. This kind of stuff where we look like total buffoons. Quite honestly, we don't even show or talk about this. I think if more Americans like watched this Canadian news stuff, like this is what you guys are talking about. You guys are making this known. This is like the CBC. Yeah. And like talking about how stupid, outrageous, and ridiculous Americans sound and our representatives like Americans should know about that.
We should be embarrassed. It's like we're not nearly as ashamed as we should be. like this guy shouldn't be the ambassador. I think >> you've got folks who are doing everything they can >> to get the Canadian public to rally against America. Just such utter delusion. It's it's it's infuriating. It's maddening. Such utter delusion. He still thinks he's literally blaming Canadian leaders, Canadian politicians for the anti-American sentiment that can Canadians are feeling. He's blaming Canadian politicians for that. Why don't we take some accountability and acknowledge that we have done that to oursel? Like, is it would it be that difficult? Would it hurt so much? Probably. He'd probably get fired from the government if he did that. Honestly, he just wants to keep his job. But I also think he truly in the bottom of his heart believes this.
And that's even more triggering. Like we just can't take accountability. That doesn't make any sense.
>> But do you He did not just say that. Hold on. I got to hear this whole quote. Hold on.
>> Understand why Canadians could be so frustrated by Donald Trump's tariffs?
You've got folks who are doing everything they can to get the Canadian public to rally against America. Just doesn't make any sense.
Just doesn't make any sense. Everybody's against us. Why Why is everyone so mean?
Why Why is everyone so mean to the We're just trying to be good guys. We're Just let us be Just let us help you. Just let us conquer you and take you over and and give you unfair trade deals and exploit you. Just just let us let us help you.
The Why are you being so mean and and stopping us from that?
>> It's it wow. It's nonsense.
>> But do you understand where that frustration is coming from?
>> Absolutely no.
>> In Canada because, you know, a lot of Canadians are saying, "Well, we didn't do anything wrong and suddenly Donald Trump, you know, put tariffs on us. We put tariffs on everybody in the world.
>> Oh my god.
Is that the end of it?
>> Okay, the interview.
>> Okay, so that's like part of a long interview he did. God, that would be mind-numbing to listen to this entire interview, but these are a couple clips.
Um, I'm glad the interviewers are calling him out. Like, what do you mean you don't understand? like what about when the United States randomly put these outrageous tariffs on Canada and he's like uh oh we've been doing that for years. What? Why?
20 30 50% tariffs on like the automotive industry and like aluminum and like these huge very consequential sectors like we've been doing all that for for years. It's is he he's just like rewriting history, I guess.
>> Do anything wrong and suddenly Donald Trump, you know, put tariffs on us.
>> We put tariffs on everybody in the world.
And the world doesn't like us.
It's so Oh, and if he's trying to say we've been doing this for a long time, sure. I'm sure you could say for the longest time we've had like a 1% tariff on potato chips or some like something random. Sure. Back in 1933.
Sure. I guess to every country that's not the point. It's it's the magnitude of what we are doing now. How outrageous it all is. Um. Wow. Yeah. This was uh this was something special. This was I don't because I've done a couple videos before taking a look at Pete Hora, the US ambassador to Canada. This is not the first time I've heard him talk. Not even the first time he has said things kind of like this where he is like baffled about Canada's response to what the United States is doing. And now like enough time has passed where we can look back and be like, man, if there is any question about this whole situation and what who who's at fault, I think there's no question anymore. The United States Supreme Court literally has called the tariffs unlawful.
All of those companies who had to pay tariffs that Trump was bragging about all that money, all that money has to be returned, but the the normal everyday taxpayers and citizens like me still have felt the pain of those hiked prices. Now gas prices are up. Now inflation is going up. It's a disaster.
It's all been a disaster. So maybe someone's got to tell Pete Hora all that. I don't I don't think that would even make a difference at this point because I think he's living with his head under a rock or on another planet.
It's it's not that he doesn't know what's going on. It's his interpretation of what's going on is so insane. So that's my analysis. Uh anyway, yeah, this is embarrassing. It's embarrassing.
We have people representing the US out there saying things like this. I don't see how he is at all doing his job to be an ambassador for our two countries.
Saying things like this is just going to divide us and call cause more divisiveness and and and division seems to be the opposite of what we should be doing and saying. and yet he still has his job. So, more Americans should seriously be questioning all this. I certainly am. So, anyway, if you enjoyed this, feel free to uh give this video a like or leave a comment with your thoughts on the these comments from Pete Hora and if you think they are rational or not or especially from a Canadian perspective, that'd be interesting to hear.
