Why Your Brain Forgets What You Study | MHT-CET 2027
Added:I don't remember some things in the exam. I understood them when I taught them in class, but they get confusing in the exam.
Just lecturing [music] does n't help you move one step forward. If you watch till the end, you will understand all the steps properly and by understanding this, you will make changes in your studies.
Hello student friends, welcome to Matrix Science Academy.
Many children ask me this question, sir.
I pay attention in lectures, I understand things, but I study a lot, but I forget. In exams, I get blanks.
I cannot solve questions. If I do not study for two months or even a month, I forget that lesson. For example, I did rotational dynamics today, after a month I do not remember anything about rotational dynamics.
What is the reason for this?
Today we are going to know whether children forget.
We study. How do we forget after studying.
How are these things stored in our brain? If we understand this conceptually, we can change our study method. So we have to see that the things we store in our head or the step-by-step storing process that we study.
We have to understand how each individual step works.
So this doubt or this question is in the mind of every child. Sir, I understood perfectly in class, but I forget only when it comes in my exam. I do not remember some things when I am in class.
When you teach, you understand, but if you get confused in M, the reason for this is that we will break our learning into five stages. Let me show you what the five stages are.
How is the journey to memory?
First of all, exposure. I will explain each step in detail. If you understand it well, your method of studying will change.
So understand each step.
Exposure, Understanding, Connection, Application and Ownership. When the journey to Ownership goes from there, you don't have to remember things because during exposure, it is an external thought for you.
It is information that the brain does not consider important. And when there is ownership, that thought is you. That is, when I get a question, whether it is rotational, I think about it myself.
For me, there are some parameters to think about. For example, if a question of torque comes, I will think about the torque required. All the formulas etc. are my internal thoughts, are they mine or are they some borrowed thoughts? Are they not my borrowed thoughts that I have read now and now I am applying?
When we read and apply them, when we are external thoughts to ourselves, then issues arise, so let's understand them step by step. The video will be a little longer. The video will be a minute long.
If you watch till the end, you will understand all the steps properly and by understanding this, you will make changes in your studies. The first exposure is the first stage. Like in the class, I am teaching rotational dynamics. I tell you the concept.
What is moment of inertia? What is angular momentum?
What is torque? All the words you hear are their definitions. You hear their concepts. This is the first stage for you. And this is not learning. This is not learning. Okay, you are listening.
You are getting exposure to these things.
Moment of inertia.
You heard torque for the first time. You heard angular momentum for the first time. Listening is not learning for you. Many children interpret it as a miss.
They think that listening means I have learned. This is the first stage. Exposure is not exposure learning. You think that I attended the lecture.
I attended the lecture. I heard all these concepts. But the next day I do n't remember anything. What happens is that when our brain listens to these things and then goes home and sleeps at night, the brain deletes the unwanted things, the less used things, or the things that are not that important. For example, when we are walking on the road, what color car passed or what bike number was it?
Even if we have seen it, we do n't remember it because we did not give it that much importance. And the brain deletes the things that we did not give importance to. It does not increase memory.
What does the brain do at night? The brain keeps deleting the things that are unwanted to it, the things that it has not used, so the next day We don't remember things. The reality is that this hearing is just because we got exposure. It is not learning. Children understand it as learning. So the first thing is that it is not color.
Just lecturing does not do anything.
We need to go a step further. So in the lecture, you should also understand proper learning and understanding. For example, in the lecture, I am explaining torque for example.
I have taken torque as an example. When I take an example, I will talk to you and make you understand what torque is. This teacher's work will make you understand. What is torque for example? Here I will explain to you torque example. When we open a door, this door, this door's hinge, this door's hinge, this door's hinge, this door's hinge, when we apply force here, suppose I apply force here in the cross of 10 Newtons and this distance is four meters, then the torque that is applied here, the torque that I am applying is torque of 40 Newton meters are used. The closer I apply force, the less torque will be applied and the longer I apply force, the more torque will be increased.
So this is what this understanding is. Now you have attached the word torque with a meaning. You have exposed the word torque.
You have got exposure to what torque is. It was not possible to understand the meaning of torque by just reciting the definition. To understand the meaning of torque, one or two examples should be given properly, which are given in the class.
Proper examples should be given.
For example, you have a nut, bolt, hex nut, bolt, this nut bolt, which is a bolt, which you want to open, and to open it, you use a wrench. It is like this. Now, when you do this, it becomes tight. When you open it, you understand that I have to tighten it.
Now, this is what this bolt is, it is not small. It is of a truck. It is of a truck tire.
And I have to tighten the truck tire.
So, when the truck starts, it goes out. No, I have to go now to tighten this, I am applying force with my hand and my distance is 10 centimeters. Now, what happens when I push it with my hand?
How much force does it have?
Even if I pull with all my might, I cannot apply much torque. So what do people do?
Puncture repairers put a big pipe in it, put a pipe in it, put a spanner in it, and he stands on it. The man stands and jumps while standing. So what happens is that he is basically using his head. He increases his moment arm. What he is doing is increasing the force in the torque, increasing the distance in the distance, and applying the force to his full weight. In this case, it will become even tighter. If you want to open it, on the contrary, he will take a spanner to this side and jump from there, so it will open.
When you get such examples, your exposure is converted into understanding, and now, since exposure is converted into understanding, you get a little retention. The next day, you will not forget it. You will remember it for three to four days. The thing is that torque is something like this, it is like a truck drive, a truck with a puncture or a door, you are connected to it, the second step is the stage of learning, the first exposure, the first time you heard about the world, the world, the reaction, the reaction, you have heard it for the first time, but you get the proper understanding, you still have to understand it well, the second stage of learning, now you can visualize the math behind this, you understand how torque works, force and distance multiplication, perpendicular distance, but even here the game does not end, many children think that understanding means I am going to fall out of the mark now, I will not be able to top, there is one step ahead, there are many more steps, you often exit after one or two steps and you think that you have understood what torque is, but you have understood, but you are not able to understand, let's move on, I understood in class, sir told me about torque, I understood, but I still can't solve it, sir, when I saw the question, I did not understand any formula.
You have been told that it is an illusion in your head that you understand everything in physics. The reason is that while teaching physics, the teacher explains the concepts and also explains their meaning so that you can understand. This is an illusion trap. And if you want to get out of this trap, you need to know the third step. The third step is that you should be able to make connections.
You need to make a connection, what is the relationship between torque and force, kinetic energy, translational kinetic energy, rotational, you need to be able to connect these things, that is, understanding one concept, understanding another concept, connection between them, this connection, but many good teachers will make you a teacher, they give you this connection, they give you the thought process, and this thought process, proper connection comes, when you start connecting, it becomes very difficult to lose the memory, when you start connecting, it becomes difficult to forget something, because to forget, you have to forget everything, and how is it that if you remember it in parts, then you can immediately make the connection again, so the third step of connection formation is very important, I know sir, in linear, force is torque, in angular, mass is playing the role of moment of inertia instead of force, linear, angular, this connection should be able to be made, when you start making connections, your memory becomes strong, gradually, you forget less I do it because even if I forget torque alpha I can go there from here I know the map I know the bridge information the path information how to go so connection is very important sir after connection will I get a good score or not there are steps ahead of connection now I will get exposure I know what torque is I understand what torque means sir gave the best example and I also understand what torque relation is with force connection but I made the connection but even though sir I ca n't solve the question okay I understand the concept but I went to solve the question I took a lot of time sir because I understand the concept I can also apply the connection I understand the formulas but I did n't do exam practice in the question I did n't do question solving practice so fourth stage is very important same application here many students skip this stage where they do chat students do lectures online they get exposure there get concept knowledge and also get connection this is the teacher's The first three steps were the teacher told you the first three steps properly. Now when the student's role starts, apply what you have learned on it. Apply the knowledge you have gained.
Solving it without looking for the solution.
What do you do? When you see a question, you immediately see the solution. Don't think like that.
Try to solve it. The 15 20 What do you do? Take the question, take the book, do it first, then look at the answer key. Is this C? Is it correct? Is it D? Is it not? Then give B. Then we check each question. You don't have to sit and check each question. You have a continuous set of questions. If you solve it without looking at the solution, your brain will gradually understand that this is important.
Remember that this is something new.
Remember that if you look at each solution, every time you think this is important, this is important. Your brain will get confused. You are 30. Solve the questions completely, you got seven wrong, then see the solution of how to solve seven, your brain will know what to remember extra, you will click when you see the questions, when you practice on the application, this is very important, you have caught it so that now you have six months left, 50 questions daily, you have to do 50 questions daily, if you do 6 months, 180 days, if you do 200 days, catch the Hajj questions, there will be 10000 questions in physics, nothing will come out of it.
I came to PY Q 2026 of Rotational Dynamics, now I was recently teaching in Aadhar batch, I took 47 questions, why is circular different from rotational motion, in that 47, I almost got 15 to 20 even 25 questions, I have a doubt that the PY Q was repeated, so there are a lot of repetitions, so the Hajj when someone The chances of getting out of the question paper in Physics become less, so application is the most important step and after this you will think sir, I have solved 300 questions of Rotational, I have made it very clear now, now I will fall out in the Rotational test, I will fall today, but when the test is held in two or three months or when the four lessons come together, when the combination test is held, then what? For that, you should understand that pattern recognition, pattern dependence, when you see a question of a pattern, you solve it, but when the pattern of the question changes, you get tense and go, oh, if you don't find even one out of 300, you have to practice solving it. How to solve new type of questions, you have to give time to it. It's not like that, if you don't get the question, you will see the answer in two minutes. If the question is good, then give it time. We are not in a crash course yet. In six months, if you get a question, think about it for five minutes, if you don't get it, don't look at the solution, go to the next question, then revisit it again, try to solve it again, give it five minutes, in two or three minutes, you will find that the question. If you do this, then seven or eight questions go in two or three minutes without solution and then look at the solution of the two or three that you didn't get till the end.
Ask the teachers how to do it. Then your concepts will be clear and you will know how to solve the questions of the new pattern.
And the last stage is ownership. Ownership is the feeling that is generally in teachers. When you ask teachers a question, the teacher immediately tells you in two minutes. Because we have this sense of ownership of the concept, that is, ownership of torque, what exactly is torque?
This is the reason why when I got the first time exposure, I was confused. I got the exposure 15 years ago when I was in 12th standard and since those 15 years I have been applying that thing the same way, understanding it, repeating it, so after repeating it for so long, I have that ownership, the amount of knowledge that will be in the portion of the CET based on torque, in which portion I can answer it very comfortably. The reason is that since you are taught the same thing many times, you have to repeat this thing in these six months. By repeating it, it will come to you.
Now the concept will not become information for you, torque will not become information, torque will be your internal thought for you. You yourself are going to tell me about torque, right? It is not that you have borrowed knowledge, I have read a book, I know what torque is, now I am not telling you what torque is, you know what torque is internally, it takes time to come to this filling. This repetition is five steps by step up to five stages.
When you have to reach, you will see that automatic thinking habit is developed. When you see the questions, you will see that it is clicking immediately. What to do? And this will come only after a certain level of sacrifice, a certain level of hard work, and only after this you will get questions.
All so long term retention will be developed. After ownership comes, once you know what is the complete game of torque, you can solve questions on it anytime and once ownership comes, don't study for two months. Don't study for two months.
You do the minute revision. You will remember all the things. As a teacher, I am teaching Rotational Dynamics today. After this, I will teach Rotational Dynamics problem after six months. But after six months, I will not have to study again. If I start Rotational Dynamics directly, I will remember your things.
And now we have been doing it for 15 years. If you follow this properly even for one year, you will come back to me after six months.
Rotational will come in front of you, revise for 10-15 minutes, you will open all your neural links, you will have to remember everything, what you have learned and in this way, so basically, these five steps of exposure, understanding, connection, application are important. What do we do in the learning process? After exposure, understanding, connection, this is done in the lecture, we immediately forget, know nothing, independently, slow, recall speed, low, do not remember what to do. All these regions are your answers. When we just study, we just watch the lecture, we just watch the lecture. It feels good to watch the lecture because in the lecture, we get exposure, we understand the new words, we are told what the connection is. Sir, the teacher goes easy, one shot lecture, he told everyone, but how does its use result come? The result comes only from step one, step two, step three, step one, step three, then step four, then step four, then the result comes. So toppers know that 99.9% of the students are top 99% of the students. They have moderated these things and so these are going to bring your results.
These things are application. You can solve questions. Many questions.
Struggling with new patterns.
Struggling while solving new patterns. Learning in that struggle is application and then ownership.
Permanent retention. Permanently will remember.
Year after year you will remember what torque was and this is the way to learn things.
So you don't want to stop. You have to climb this ladder.
Here is how to study. In this slide, how to study.
After watching the first lecture, the concept is torque.
For example, today's lecture taught torque.
Explain that concept to yourself in simple words. Not to yourself.
Explain to friends. But explain it loudly. Explain it by talking. No problem. Explain it by talking to yourself. No problem. After that, look at this. Why is this necessary? Because there is a difference between learning and teaching.
When we teach, we understand how clear our thoughts are.
So, the one who can explain very well has very clear thoughts about that concept. So, you should teach yourself out loud that this is what torque is and then when you start doing this, you will gradually understand that your interest is increasing because you are explaining. You are becoming an explainer.
Gradually link old things with new things. Link them. Okay, I understand torque. What is its relationship with force?
Watch this lecture. If you understand the lecture, try to link it yourself.
Solve the standard MCQs without looking at the solution. And then after all this, I will write here. Teacher Junior, I say, leave it to Junior.
You teach yourself, teach your friends, do group discussions with your friends. This is how you will study. The method of study is very important. Just working hard in the wrong direction is of no use. You have to work hard with the right direction, you have to study a lot more and in the proper direction.
If you follow this properly, I guarantee that you will bring the best to the best results to every student.
So I hope you liked this video a lot.
If you liked it, then tell me in the comment section whether you liked the video I made or why students forget.
You can tell me by commenting on it and on which topic you want more videos. Also, tell me about other academic topics. Okay, thank you so much. See you in the next video.
