In South Carolina, local Republican lawmakers defied the White House's attempt to rig congressional maps for Republicans, voting 24-20 against the gerrymandering plan in a historic legislative session. This defiance, combined with a dramatic 56-point drop in Trump's approval rating among young men (the demographic that helped elect him), signals a potential collapse of MAGA's legislative dominance and demonstrates how grassroots resistance can neutralize executive branch political strategies.

WE DID IT! Trump LOSES SOUTH CAROLINA ELECTION by 31 PERCENTAdded:
So, this week, South Carolina bucked the White House, refusing to rig its congressional map for Republicans, at least for now. Tomorrow, that's sure to be a major topic of conversation at one of the biggest political events of the year, Congressman Jim Clyburn's world-famous fish fry. This annual event, folks, draws White House contenders to the crucial early primary state, you know, to get out there, shake a few hands, make a pitch to their voters, right? It's a good field day for everybody. So, today, our colleague Eugene Daniels spoke to Congressman Clyburn, and Eugene joins us now from Columbia, South Carolina. He's the co-host of The Weekend and MSNBC Washington Correspondent and co-host of the MSNBC podcast Clock It. He is the man who's got the plan and the conversation. Eugene, tell us about the conversation with Clyburn. That's It's quite a get, man, particularly given the news of the week.
>> Thank you. Yeah, it was quite wide-ranging. We talked about 2026 and his race. We talked about 2028, the fish fry, the Democrats, and what they need to do to make sure they get his support come 2028. Um, but we also talked about the redistricting and that failed redistricting plan. And most importantly, I wanted to know what the plan was to make sure this map doesn't come back. Listen to what he said.
>> I don't think you're going to stop the map from coming back, and I don't know that we should. I think we need to take the Supreme Court decision, make sure that we participate in this process.
Look at all the tests that have been there over the years for redistricting, and show why uh, it is a 45% uh, African American district is much less egregious than a 75% white district. And that's what you've got here. And I think that if we show, uh, that, um, the politics, uh, one thing and the adverse racial stuff is another.
We might be able to survive the test.
>> And you think Republicans are going to be on board with that?
>> I've talked to some who I know will be on board with that.
>> So that tells you he is going to be going back to his old job kind of whipping folks into action here talking to Republicans to see what they can do but also what was really interesting talking to him and just being in South Carolina is black voters themselves are coming out in droves to show that they're going to be very upset if this map comes back. We'll keep watching. He was much more hopeful I think than a lot of people are but the full interview will air later on this week. More coming.
>> All right, Eugene Daniels. Hey, I'm just wondering if any Republicans going to show up at that fish fry. That's what I want to know. You can catch more Eugene's interviews throughout the night yet, [laughter] right? Throughout the day tomorrow on MS Now and also on his regular gig The Weekend airing Saturday and Sunday from 7:00 to 10:00 a.m.
Eastern. I you know, I joke about Republicans you know, showing up at the fish fry.
Y'all should show up at the fish fry.
But clearly I think >> And Scott should be going to the fish fry. The senator of South Carolina, right?
>> Exactly. So you would but I I I love the point that you know, the congressman's going to do what he needs to do. He's going to go out and he's going to lobby.
He's going to whip you know, members around this idea and I think that's going to be interesting to play to see how it comes out for him.
>> I think it'll Go ahead, Alicia.
>> No, you say it.
>> Well, I just think I think it's interesting but in my conversations with state senators and state reps in South Carolina, they believe not only are their colleagues their Republican colleagues going to circle back on this particular map for the congressional seats that they have also been on the record saying that they're going to also do this for the state legislative seats.
And frankly, that's a play that's happening all across the country. So this year we're talking about the congressional seats, but in state legislatures, America's policy is made there, but also they have a lot of sway over the bills and elections.
>> Harry Enten is here to tell us something we don't know. Like who's going to pay that nurse?
>> I was going to say that I can't I can't afford that ticket.
>> So $60 million they're putting into this and expecting or anticipating to lose $30 million. I mean, how big is UFC now?
>> I mean, UFC is huge now. One way to put it into some perspective for you, right, is how many people tuned into the initial event on Paramount Plus. It was 5 million people who tuned in. To give you an idea, so far in the NHL playoffs this year from rounds one and two, the average game is getting 3.3 million average viewership. Now, you know, that's not exactly apples to apples, but it does suggest, and what a lot of the polling suggests as well, is that UFC right now is like the number four sport in America, right? It's football, baseball, basketball, and then UFC. It's huge.
>> No, it's huge. And it's also part of what the group I would say, if I'm going to generalize, that is attracted to to this most, young men are a big part of what helped get Donald Trump elected this time around. How is he doing with them right now?
>> Yeah, okay. So, you know, as you mentioned, you know, you look at the polling, you see that, you know, the younger fans, it tends to be younger folks, younger men specifically who are the big fans of UFC. And Donald Trump, of course, put in a historic performance with them back in the 2024 election for Republican candidate for president. He actually won them. He won men under the age of 30 by a point. Look at his net approval rating now though with them. Oh my goodness gracious. He is >> I was literally about to ask you if that was a typo.
>> No, that is not a typo. Me and my crack crew spent many hours on those slides, and we can tell you that is not a typo.
That is a 56-point move against the president of the United States among young men who helped put him over the top of the election, and now he is very much struggling with them. Maybe that's part of the reason why he wants to put on an event like this to try and connect with some of them.
>> Thank you very much for joining us. What is the latest in the situation at Dilley, as we know, as we know as of now?
The >> It's It's just getting bad. There was an incident today in which families reached out to us, attorneys and others, about the conditions and what's going on inside of that building. My My visit yesterday, uh there's just no words to describe the reality that we in America are allowing this to go on in our midst because we have a president that has conducted an immigration policy against all of our basic values and our core sense of decency. This I And I want to just add one more thing to you. It's not only a private for-profit prison, but it's part of the corruption that's endemic in this administration because this is a corporation that showered Republicans with money beforehand. They've got a billion-dollar contract, and we know that his immigration cruelty at every mark of it, from people doing transportation, uh from people uh that are being hired to do other jobs like the private prisons we see, there's so many people making profit off of this misery and this pain and this violation of our values.
>> And we have Tom Homan who could not have been confirmed by the Senate, uh but then was given an appointed position within this Trump army against immigrants, who was caught on FBI undercover video accepting $50,000 in cash before the last presidential election saying in effect that he would be helping people try to get these kinds of contracts.
>> Again, this is one of the reasons why we we have to win in November so that we could actually start looking at this myriad of no-bid contracts, all the ways, and I think we're only seeing a tip of an iceberg right now, which is terrifying because there's grift and graft and corruption going on everywhere. It's not just smash and grab slush funds. It's not just straight trading stocks on insider information or the foreign policy decisions the president's making. We know that groups like the GEO Group and others are involved in open-air corruption when it comes to the way they're doing their campaign contributions, no-bid contracts, and more. And so, these are the kinds of things we need to get to the bottom of. But meanwhile, right now as we're speaking, in Newark, New Jersey, and across this nation, there are fathers and mothers of American children, people that are integral and parts of our communities, grandparents, business owners, and others that are being detained in deplorable conditions.
That should weigh on the conscience of all Americans. And for us to be silent about this atrocity, this assault on human dignity, implicates our own dignity and humanity as well.
>> Senator, there are so many issues that you have to chase in your position now. You're among a group of 20 Democratic senators who are trying to find out something that should not be difficult to find out. How much does Donald Trump's war in Iran cost? What do we know as of now, and what do we need to know?
>> Well, we know that the president is lying to us and that his administration is lying to us about the full costs of this war. So, of course, there's a cost at home that we're all paying with higher prices, gasoline costs, energy inflation, all that pain. But our actual military right now, the tens of billions of dollars we do not have a fair accounting of the true costs to the United States taxpayer. That's why we have to be all outraged that this president's conducting an illegal war and there's no accounting, there's no accountability, there's no oversight.
The Republicans that control Congress are not asking the questions that the American people should be demanding to know about President Trump's failed war in Iran.
>> As you go forward, do you expect to possibly get some Republican cooperation and now possibly from senators like John Cornyn who don't any longer have a future on the Republican side of the Senate?
>> Yeah, it is a >> one really of being somebody he he didn't he didn't feel professorial or like he was looking down on anybody.
>> No, cuz he had that grandpa effect, you know, that loving but stern grandpa effect. And it was his authenticity and that is why he won younger voters overwhelmingly even you know, much more even beyond his own generation because younger people across the spectrum saw in Senator Bernie Sanders vision a hope for themselves. And that is probably why this president and Republicans are losing to those men whether they are black or white or Hispanic as Peter was pointing out is because they don't see a future for themselves. And so even if we expand that Katie to everybody no matter what generation they rocking with right now, people want to know that they have a future and young people are feeling more and more and more as though their future is slipping away. It's not just a feeling. I mean, we see the numbers with that that generations you know, generations certain generations can't expect to live at the a life as their parents or their grandparents. And so that's no deal >> Trump is hitting an absolute concrete wall in the American South.
And the latest catastrophic news out of South Carolina has sent the MAGA establishment into a state of pure unadulterated panic.
Stop what you are doing right now and look closely at the data because the political landscape just fractured in a way that changes the entire calculus for the upcoming midterm elections.
The White House tried to force a heavy-handed mid-decade coup to rewrite the congressional maps, explicitly intending to dismantle black representation, and force the opposition to burn tens of millions of dollars defending safe seats.
But in a stunning, high-stakes development, local state Republicans broke ranks, refused to rig the maps, and allowed the legislative special session to collapse completely in a historic 24 to 20 Senate vote.
Why do you think the executive branch is losing its grip on its own party? Drop your thoughts in the comments right now.
Is this the definitive collapse of Trump's legislative dominance?
Let's bypass the corporate media spin and look directly at the raw numbers making the front pages.
The decision by key Senate Republicans to side with the Democrats and reject this aggressive gerrymandering effort means the status quo holds, keeping Congressman James Clyburn's district an unassailable stronghold for the 2026 midterms.
If the White House had succeeded in breaking up this district to force a clean 7-0 Republican sweep, it would have created a massive, nationwide defensive drain on opposition resources.
Instead, untold millions are now completely freed up to target vulnerable swing districts across the country.
The strategic blunder by the executive branch didn't just fail, it actively handed a massive resource advantage right back to their opponents.
But the panic inside the administration runs significantly deeper than a failed map war. The latest demographic polling has just revealed a statistical crater that is shaking the foundation of the ruling party.
Let's talk about young men under the age of 30.
The exact demographic that helped power Trump to victory in the 2024 presidential election when he won men under 30 by a single point.
Look at where that support stands today in the average of 2026 polling.
The newest data shows that Trump's net approval rating among young men has plummeted by a staggering 56 points, leaving his numbers completely underwater at minus 55 points.
That is not a typo.
It is a historic collapse driven by a young electorate that feels completely detached from its economic future, trapped under a skyrocketing cost of living and deeply disillusioned by a broken system.
Before we expose the dark money and contracts fueling this administration, click the link in the description to join our free newsletter and get the real context straight to your inbox. The reality on the ground is that the administration's aggressive rhetoric has completely detached itself from the immediate needs of everyday Americans.
Independent voters and young working-class communities are not sitting around analyzing abstract legislative procedures.
They are watching their light bills skyrocket, struggling to find affordable housing, and paying the steep domestic price of an unauthorized, expensive military conflict in Iran.
While the White House tries to distract the public with high-profile cultural stunts and sports appearances to recapture the youth vote, the economic numbers do not lie.
When you are running 70 points underwater on independent minds, no amount of corporate staging can bridge the gap.
Compounding this electoral disaster is a growing wave of exposure surrounding systemic corruption within the executive branch's immigration apparatus. We are talking about billions of dollars in no-bid contracts being showered directly onto private, for-profit prison corporations that filled the ruling party's campaign coffers.
This isn't just standard political grift.
It is an open-air cash-and-carry system where high-ranking unconfirmed administrative officials have been caught on undercover video accepting tens of thousands of dollars in cash to secure federal transport and detention contracts.
Families are being held in deplorable, substandard conditions while private entities extract massive profits from human misery.
And the public is finally connecting the dots between executive cruelty and institutional graft.
The question we have to ask ourselves tonight is simple.
How long can a thin legislative majority sustain an agenda fueled by open corruption, inflation, and illegal warfare before the entire apparatus shatters? The defiance in South Carolina proves that even local conservative lawmakers are recognizing that tying themselves to a collapsing executive branch is political suicide.
The opposition is shifting to an aggressive offensive strategy utilizing year-round grassroots organizing to challenge districts that the elite once considered completely safe.
Will the momentum from this Southern victory successfully dismantle the MAGA hold on Congress this November?

The illusion of absolute control is gone, and the real fight for the future of the Republic is happening right now.
Washington elites expected Southern state capitals to fall in line like dominoes, but they severely miscalculated the internal fractures growing within their own coalition.
Local Republican senators openly admitted they were terrified of an electoral backlash.
Realizing that if they pushed the gerrymandering too far, it would trigger a massive counter-mobilization of voters that could wipe out their state-level majorities.
In fact, internal reports show that some conservative lawmakers feared the new lines would backfire so spectacularly that they would inadvertently hand even more competitive seats to the opposition.
This level of public defiance from within Trump's own party is entirely unprecedented in modern political history.
And it signals a profound erosion of executive authority.
Meanwhile, the opposition is capitalizing on this administrative chaos by executing an aggressive, hyper-localized ground game.
They aren't waiting until 3 months before election day to knock on doors.
They are embedding full-time organizers into working-class communities year-round to build sustainable, long-term institutional power. This shift from temporary campaign spending to permanent community organizing is completely neutralizing the dark money advantages that the ruling party relied on for years.
Think about it.
If money alone could buy compliance, the billions of dollars flowing from corporate lobbying groups would have easily forced that South Carolina map through the legislature.
Instead, raw citizen engagement and grassroots pressure forced conservative senators to break ranks and deal a fatal blow to the executive branch's master plan.
The American electorate is exhausted by the perpetual chaos, the ongoing financial strain, the skyrocketing prices of basic goods, and the complete lack of tangible legislative accomplishments coming out of Washington.
They were promised immediate economic relief, lower inflation, and enhanced stability.
But instead, they have been handed record-breaking housing prices, systemic corruption scandals, and an illegal unbacked military intervention abroad.
The disconnect between the executive branch's empty rhetoric and the harsh daily reality of working families has become an unbridgeable chasm.
As the midterms rapidly approach, the ruling party is running out of time, running out of narrative control, and running out of allies willing to walk the plank for them.
The historical record is being written right now, and it is recording a presidency that is rapidly burning through its political capital.
Do not look away from this moment, and do not let the mainstream news networks convince you that your vote doesn't matter.
