Claude's skills activate through keyword matching, where descriptions are constantly scanned against user messages; when a match is found, the skill loads with its instructions and playbook, but if no match occurs, the skill remains inactive. Therefore, concise descriptions with high keyword density are more effective than lengthy paragraphs, as long descriptions contain many non-matching words that reduce the likelihood of activation.

The Hidden Rule Behind Claude Skills #ai本站添加:
Every time you start a new conversation with Claude, every skill description you have has to load into Claude's context.
The descriptions are scanning constantly every message looking for a match. So, when something that you say matches a description, Claude pulls in that specific skill, the instructions, the playbook, and if nothing matches, the skill stays asleep and Claude doesn't use it. Which means that the description has one job, not to describe the skill, but to match the request. So, a long careful paragraph style description is actually worse than a short one because it's full of words that don't match and you actually have to type in when you need to use it.
