Weather forecasters use heat index (feels like temperature) to communicate dangerous heat conditions, as actual temperatures may be lower than perceived temperatures due to humidity; in this case, South Florida experienced 'feels like' temperatures of 105-110°F despite actual highs in the lower to mid-90s, prompting a heat alert for the afternoon hours.

>> All right, a lot going on here over the last few days and moving forward from fire weather to thunderstorms to the tropics. We've had our first named storm of the season for the Atlantic season, but this one took place off the coast of Texas and it was first named this morning and guess what? It's no longer a named storm anymore. At this point, it is now a post-tropical storm Arthur as it continues to provide very heavy rainfall across parts of the Gulf Coast. It's a small, short-lived storm, but either way, the impacts across the Gulf Coast with respect to rainfall has uh been doing a significant job in terms of impacts, right? We're seeing flash flooding reports across the Gulf Coast.
All that precipitation is going to advance east. It will likely see some of this evolve into a line of severe storms across the Florida Panhandle before darting east essentially along I-10 all the way through Jacksonville. Here in South Florida, we don't have to worry about anything like that, but we are certainly dealing with our round of storms, especially the case earlier today and the fire weather aspect with the smoke that has led to air quality concerns. We've been following the storms across Broward County over the last few hours. Now spinning out an outflow boundary tracking down into Miami-Dade that will interact with the fires, the three now three fires that we've been tracking there and we'll still be working with the smoke aspect going through tomorrow at times. But tomorrow's going to be the heat. We don't have a lot of thunderstorms in the forecast tomorrow. In fact, very few if any across a good portion of our area.
Rain chance tomorrow is about a 10%. So most staying dry, but the temperature is going to be up there and we're looking at high temps tomorrow in the lower to mid-90s across South Florida. If you're in the Keys, you're in the upper 80s close to 90.
Regardless of what the thermometer's reading though, we know how it's been feeling like this week. Temperature's been feeling like the triple digits.
Well, moving forward for tomorrow, we're looking at the feels like temperature in the middle to upper 100. So, this is going to be one of the hottest days of the season so far, at least how it feels. So, therefore, the next weather alert it will be with us for tomorrow just because uh you know, it's the temperature is feeling like 105 to 110 through a good portion of the afternoon hours for tomorrow. I want to show you the forecast though for the rest of this week because fortunately, we're not going to hold on to that type of heat all week long. I mean, it's going to stay hot, don't get me wrong, through Father's Day weekend. Saturday, Sunday will feature higher rain chances. Also to note, overnight temps very warm as well, lower 80s. But once we get through Father's Day Sunday, keep in mind we will have a lot more coverage of thunderstorm activity and then staying fairly active as we get through next week with temperatures staying in the 90s for the foreseeable future, Lauren.
>> All right, Nick. Thank you. Coming
