This video examines the conflict between Maryland's 17 county sheriffs and Governor Wes Moore's Community Trust Act, a sanctuary-style law that limits local law enforcement cooperation with ICE. The sheriffs have filed a federal lawsuit seeking an injunction, arguing the law creates impossible situations where they must choose between following federal or local law. The law requires ICE to obtain judicial warrants for detention and prohibits local authorities from holding undocumented individuals beyond release dates, except for convicted felons, registered sex offenders, or those who have served extensive prison time. This case illustrates the ongoing tension between local law enforcement autonomy and federal immigration enforcement authority.

🚨17 Maryland Sheriffs REBEL Against Governor Wes Moore! 'We Refused Your Orders!' Massive LawsuitAdded:
What's going on, motivators? We got to talk about a story that is not in the mainstream media because the sheriff department of Maryland is suing the state and Governor Westmore because of ICE. Let's get into this.
>> Now, on to a lawsuit filed in Maryland by a majority of the state's elected sheriffs.
>> They're trying to stop a new law they say makes Maryland a sanctuary state, stopping them from working with ICE, enforcing federal immigration law. Fox 5's Bob Barner live in Green Belt with more. Bob?
>> Yeah. Hey there, guys. 17 of Maryland's 24 sheriffs have signed on to this civil suit filed here at federal court in Green Belt. It is aimed at stopping the Community Trust Act. Now, it became law last month, passed by the General Assembly. Governor Wes Moore supporting the legislation, but allowing it to become law without his signature. The Community Trust Act is designed to limit how sheriff's departments and other local law enforcement agencies and corrections deputies work with ICE so people who might get swept up in an immigration enforcement uh for instance aren't afraid to go to work or call police as witnesses to a crime. Now, earlier this year, Maryland lawmakers banned 287G agreements. Those are the formal partnerships between local governments and ICE. And now the sheriffs are suing to block this new law. We hear now from one of the sheriffs filing suit against the Community Trust Act and the Democratic state senator who sponsored the legislation.
I mean, you think about it, it's always a Democrat state who come up with those crazy policies.
Why not let your local sheriff work with ICE?
Unless you're trying to hide people.
I thought the idea was to make a community safe. This is why I don't believe this guy should be a governor.
He's talking about running for president in 2028.
How could West Moore run for president when he cannot even take care of his own state?
Make those things make sense to me. If this guy was the president of the United States, what would he do with the federal government?
He would remove everything. I I don't understand the policies. Those people come in office and only make things worse for their constituents.
How is that possible? Your job is to fix, not make worse.
Protect people.
Have federal agents team up with local police officers to make things better.
What is so hard about that? Well, the sheriffs are asking federal court for an injunction to stop the new law from being enforced.
This law is a dangerous mandate that has effectively turned Maryland into a sanctuary state. By prohibiting these sheriffs from working with federal immigration authorities, they have kneecapped these sheriffs. 17 of the state's 24 sheriffs standing in solidarity against the Community Trust Act and in support of a federal lawsuit to stop it. They say the act puts them in impossible situation. Do they break Maryland law or violate federal law?
This is pathetic that our government, our general assembly, that they have turned their backs on not just the American people, but specifically all Marylanders. Partisan politics over public safety. It is an intentional statemandated obstruction of public safety. This law deliberately ties the hands of our dedicated local deputies, police officers, and correctional officers. It forbids us from sharing information with federal authorities.
>> The Community Trust Act requires ICE to get a judicial warrant in order to hold undocumented immigrant detainine.
>> And that's why I said, who are you for, your constituents or for illegal migrants?
But again, what the sheriff is saying is true. You're putting people in a bad predicament because which one should they follow? Should they follow federal law or local law? I thought it supposed to follow both of them. But this injunctionary makes them follow one. And it's the same thing with all the Democrat states.
>> Local authorities can't hold undocumented individuals beyond the release date. But there are exceptions.
Law enforcement may notify ICE if the person is a convicted felon, a registered sex offender, or has served extensive time in prison.
>> Now, when their sentences are up or their trials are adjudicated, I've got to open my doors and allow these criminals, which include uh defendants of of seconddegree rape, uh sexual abuse of minors, drug trafficking, uh aggravated assault, sele sexual solicitation of minors.
>> Angel families who have lost loved ones to undocumented criminals stood with the sheriff. This included Rachel Marin's mom, Patty.
>> She was raped, brutally beaten, murdered, stuffed into a drain pipe.
The governor says he has implementation concerns and is working with the state AG's office to clarify them. The state AG's office had no comment on the lawsuit. Reporting live from federal court downtown.
>> That's the thing. Westmore sucks and we all know it. This is a quote from Governor West Moore. Maryland will also work with federal law enforcement when it makes Marylanders safer, but we will not let untrained, unqualified, and unaccountable ICE agent deputized local law enforcement officers to do their federal immigrant work.
We respect the role sheriff plays in protecting their communities and we recognize that there are implementation questions that will need to be worked through but the governor's position has not changed. So pretty much he's saying they don't care about ICE and we could continue being a sanctuary state as much as we want to. I'm telling you to me this guy is to be in the military and it's shameful. I don't understand how could you be in the military for protecting the motherland when it comes to protecting borders in the United States and deporting immigrants. You have a stance. I don't understand.
Then why were you in the military for if not to protect the people?
>> They uh basically passed a law to kill the 287g program. We've been to the tip of the spear of that program for 18 years. It's been very effective. So, that program's dead. It's gone. Now, they've taken it a step further to shut down every avenue we have to communicate with ICE, to share information with any uh uh immigration enforcement officer whatsoever.
>> The suit incorrectly suggests that we are requiring law enforcement to obstruct federal immigration. That is not the case. We are not asking them to obstruct federal immigration at all. It just means that um when individuals are being booked and coming into our jails and other facilities that there has to be a due process um in place to ensure that they're simply not being turned over and scooped out by ICE.
Now, at a news conference in Annapolis this morning announcing the lawsuit, we heard from the mother of Rachel Morren, who was raped and murdered by an illegal immigrant in Maryland's Harford County in the summer of 2023.
>> It happened because the state of Maryland had sanctuary policies that welcome these same people.
Now with this law, no abiding citizen, law-abiding citizen is safe.
Now, I mean, is that what they want?
That's all they want. They want chaos.
They want chaos everywhere. These people are not agents of change. They're agents of chaos. I mean, shame on Governor West Moore.
I don't get this guy. I don't understand any of those states with their sanctuary policies.
Like, who do you care more about? You care about the non-citizens or the citizens?
And you had that assemblyman talking, we don't want to just give people over to your eyes, but you have a detention time frame. So, what do you do in that time frame? Do you just let him back on the streets?
I don't understand that. Those same offenders who have done stuff before are the one who going back or repeating offenders and the first time they do something. It may not be a death or whatever it is. The second time they end up killing someone. We're talking about sex offenders.
We're talking about people who committed crimes and they won't turn them in. What is the point?
And then when someone dies, they're going to come in and say that they're sorry, but it means nothing. It's meaningless because they're not doing the job on the front end to take care of the constituents.
The constituent should always come first in everything that we do. From my standpoint, every state should abolish sanctuary cities. Federal government should hold accountability.
If they are having sanctuary cities and they are not working with ICE, all funding should be cut off.
We should not give any states funding if they don't allow ICE to come into the states.
Be for the people first, not for the immigrants, the illegal immigrants that is. But I could be wrong. Let me know within the comments. All right, motivators. If you enjoy what you seen and heard, please like, comment, share, but most importantly, subscribe to A Black Veterans Perspective.
