The design offers a clever demonstration of internal mass manipulation, turning basic physics into an engaging educational experience. However, it remains more of a polished desk toy than a functional robotic innovation, relying on aesthetic flair to compensate for its mechanical simplicity.

Sphere Robot Remote Controlled Building SetAdded:
[music] >> Hey everybody. Well, today we're going to take a look at a fun little building set. Now, this is from a company called I think it's pronounced Talba Bamoo, I guess is how you pronounce it. But I really think this thing is kind of cool.
So, it's a programmable sphere robot.
So, the robot's actually on the inside of this sphere and then with these wheels, it's kind of like a BB-8 type of thing. If you've ever had those toy BB-8s where the mechanism is on the inside and these wheels roll around and of course it rolls around inside the ball. It's kind of like a hamster ball type of thing. But I thought this one was really neat. You can see it's got two eyes right here that are similar to the eyes that were in other robot kits that I've built and I really had I really like those robots. They were really a lot of fun to put together and they work really well. Another thing I love about this is it has a physical remote control. I've talked about that before in the past. I prefer a physical remote because it and it has an app too. You can also use an app for this and I think with the app you can program it.
But I prefer these because you can feel the buttons since they're actual physical buttons. You don't have to keep looking at the remote. You can actually look at the robot doing what it's supposed to do on the app because you can't feel the buttons on your TV or I mean on your phone screen. You have to keep looking at your phone. That's the only thing I don't like about it. So, I really like when they provide those.
Here on the back, this is another view of it. Now, I think the vast majority of the pieces on here are strictly just for decoration to make it look all technical and stuff, which is fine. I think it looks really neat. Probably has some shiny pieces in it which I really like as well, some chrome parts. I also really like these tubes.
These tubes are going to glow.
So, it has these glowing tubes. It has multiple expressions in the eyes. I don't think it makes any sound effects as far as I can tell, but it looks like it should be pretty cool. So, it has 804 pieces.
So, we will get started on this and we'll check it out when it's all built.
Okay, so this is what I've got built so far. It's quite the contraption as you can see.
There's a lot of detail pieces all over this thing.
And I like the shiny gold parts like the little phone pieces and stuff like that.
These things here, these little posts sticking up, those are a pain. Every time you're trying to put something on it seems like they're always popping up popping off. And like this whole panel is one panel and you have to push it on and it's hard because you got to make sure you get it into these areas here and it's kind of hard to push it so you can get equal pressure to make sure that they're actually going on the studs very you know, like strongly. But then you keep popping these things off. So, those are kind of an irritation, but um you know, I'm looking at this. I'm trying to figure out how this works because the wheels that are going to go on here, they're not motorized. They're just caster wheels. And so, the only thing I can think of is somehow this is shifting the weight.
Like maybe it'll it'll go like this and it'll make the weight make it roll in the ball or something. I'm not really sure because these two, let's see, where is it?
Uh this piece, these two pieces right here, they're they they're like solid brick pieces right there. They are heavy. They got some weight in there.
So, there's actually metal. I put a magnet up to it and a magnet sticks to it. So, those are like metal chunks underneath the plastic. It's pretty interesting how they did that. So, I'm guessing that uh this somehow just shifts the weight. I think that's how those BB-8s work too.
Um but anyway, it's a pretty cool build so far. I really like it. And um you don't I you know, the technique part of it isn't so bad. You just do a lot of detail work and that's just a little bit of it right there. All right. Well, anyway, I'll keep on going with this. If there's anything more interesting, I'll show you as we go along with the build.
All right. So, here it is all put together and you can see all the crazy details on this.
So, I really like all these shiny silver and gold pieces. There's quite a few on here.
And you do spend a lot of time putting all these details on here, but they look really nice. As I mentioned, these things here are kind of fragile. They keep popping off when you're building it. There is some printed pieces like you see there and there. And then there's even like the little dial underneath it like the little meter on both sides there. This is the motorized wheel that makes the movie uh that makes the whole thing move.
And then you can see all this going on there. It's just a little ton of stuff.
Here on the back, there's some more of those printed pieces.
And then on this side too. So, uh yeah, I mean it was it was kind of a complicated section down here. Now, this top section is pretty nice. This is all these shiny silver pieces too for that that kind of geared thing. Originally, I thought maybe the top part turned or something cuz of the gears, but it's strictly there just for looks.
And then here's his eyes.
The wire between the two eyes is really long. I wish that was The directions make it look like it's short, but it's not. So, you're going to have to have a whole bunch of wires that you're just going to have to kind of fit in there.
This piece here, this panel, it seems like it's always falling off when you're trying to turn it on. There's a button back in there and I I really don't like the way that part fits on there, but I mean it looks nice, but it's just kind of one of those pieces that tends to fall off a lot.
You can see all this detail going on here.
This thing, when I was putting this on, originally it looked like this round piece goes right in the center of the studs that that it fits on, but it turns out it's actually a row below it. And then that's the only way that this silver piece is going to fit on top of it. So, try not to make the same mistake I did.
And then I also like those gold phone pieces.
All kinds of neat little details. These clear blue, you got these circuit board printed parts here which I think are really neat.
Looks like an exposed circuit board or something like that. A lot of these little grill pieces. Here's that fiber optic type of tubing.
And so, on the battery uh like the big battery box in there and the motor box, it's all in one. I didn't realize that there was two LEDs in there. So, you just put the ends of these, you just kind of push it down in there and then the light shines through all those tubes.
So, it's really neat.
And then also you'll notice this piece right here. Now, on the instructions they have this a little addendum. It's like an extra page. So, apparently there was some kind of correction that they made on here. Maybe people were having problems with this. The original piece that went on the front was just this curved black piece. It looks like uh that like the number one.
But they changed it and it's really easy to change. You just take that black piece off and you put this new ball bearing piece on there.
So, you put those on and then that's what goes on the front right there. And that allows this to roll much much better on the inside of the ball.
It's on the front and the back.
So, that was really good that they figured out that mistake.
So, people that bought this earlier on, they probably reported that you know, it was a problem right there.
All right. Well, let's put this in the uh the clear ball and let's see how it works.
Okay, so I've got them all powered up now. So, you can see the really cool tube lighting that goes around the body.
And then you can also see the really awesome lighting for the for the eyes right there.
It's really neat. Now, I will tell you that um the power button is in a really inconvenient area. It's way down. Let me see if I can zoom in on it. It's right there. See that? That is the power button. You have to reach way down inside and in between his his eyes and it is not I don't know. They really should have put that in a better place and then you keep knocking off this panel that's on the inside that keeps popping off cuz you're trying you're pushing on it when you're trying to push on the button.
Another thing that was weird is when I first turned it on, I couldn't even tell what was going on. There was nothing happening.
So, when you do press the button, you press it for just like a couple like a second or two.
Um I think there is a tiny little blue light in there, but I didn't notice it at first. But you'll push the button to power them up and then it's not till you turn on the remote. Once you turn on the remote, now everything comes on. All the tube lights come on, his eyes come on and everything comes to life. So, it's kind of weird the way they did it. Uh but it is pretty neat. And then another thing that was weird is on my remote, these two, the left and right were switched. This was going left and that was going right. But if you press and hold these two buttons at the same time, it'll switch them. Same with these. So, that's how you fix it if you have an issue with that. Uh and now I got it working left and right properly on there. But yeah, so it's it's uh kind of a weird way that they did it, but I do think he looks absolutely fantastic.
Okay, so we got forward, backward, left and right.
So, we can see how he works here now.
Oh, he rolls really good actually. I'm surprised at how good this this works.
You can see he kind of kind of does this backflip almost.
And you can turn him, you know, right right on the spot like that.
Right and then left.
>> [laughter] >> And then you can also if you push you can have him turn like in a circle like this.
And that that's when I'm pushing the forward and the right one at the same time. So, he'll do a circle.
Or you can just have him turn right like that.
I love this. It He works really good.
I'm really really surprised at how good this works.
Now, I will tell I will say that he's going to work better on carpet than on a hardwood floor.
The problem I had with something similar similar like this was I had a BB-8 and if you do it on a hardwood floor like see how he kind of rocks a little bit when he he stops like that? The he will rock and keep on rocking if you have him on a hardwood floor. So, it's going to be really difficult. So, you're probably going to have to have maybe like a a throw rug or something put down.
>> [clears throat] >> I love this. It works really really good.
Oh my gosh.
Okay, so I'll show you there's two other buttons on here. So, the one on the left controls the light color. So, here you can see it's purple.
Well, okay. So, I'm on camera the colors are washed out, but I will say that they are they look really good in in person. That's like a bluish color.
That is a green.
Ooh, that red looks pretty neat.
Ooh, that's a darker green. That looks really cool. I wish it wasn't so washed out.
Ooh, that's a nice dark blue, too.
Trying to see if maybe Well, now I can't really get you'll have to see it in person to really see Oh, now this one's cool. It's got a nice little glowing effect.
Oh, I like Oh, and it's changing colors, too. Oh, I really like that.
Oh, that's cool. I may leave it on that.
Now, let's see what this one is.
Okay, so this is more of a slower fade.
Hmm, I really like [clears throat] that, too. I didn't know it had that effect in it.
That is cool. All right. So, then Oh, and you can turn them completely off if you want to.
Well, now I got to decide what I like.
Well, I think I kind of like the the fading effect here. Let me go back to that.
That blue is really nice looking. I It's like I said, it's so washed out on there. I think I like the uh the slower fade right here. Okay, now this other button, that controls the eyes. You can see the pattern the eyes have right there.
But now you can go to this pattern.
It's got like these little pupils moving around there. Oh, >> [laughter] >> there's like a couple of hearts.
Oh, I got some arrows. That's neat.
Oh, that's cool. It's like he's looking around.
Oh.
Oh, that's cool. Boy, I have to have a different Oh, there's like a looks like a question mark scrolling downward.
Oh, is he crying right there? Oh, that's sad. I don't want him crying.
Couple of X's.
Wow, there's a lot of them, isn't there?
Oh, I kind of like that one a lot.
I think that's one I was I had it on earlier. Oh, look at that. Hi.
That's neat. I haven't scrolled through all of these, so I haven't seen all of them. Oh, that's cool. That is cool. Oh, that's neat, too.
Wow, there's a lot on here. Okay, that one's solid.
Oh, and then you can turn them completely off if you want to.
Hmm.
I'm not sure which one I like the best.
You're going to have to kind of play around with it to decide which one you like.
But yeah, okay. So, and uh there is no sounds, which I'm actually kind of glad.
Uh the other robots that I've shown they can be kind of annoying with the the sounds constantly, you know, going every time you're moving it.
But um I kind of like that this one doesn't Well, plus the sounds would be muffled anyway inside that dome.
All right. Well, anyway, I I like that you have all these different choices with the lights and the eyes.
All right. Well, I have absolutely loved this thing.
Um so, the ball I will say that it's got a it's a kind of a learning curve trying to work that ball. It trying to get the two halves to go together. You have to kind of figure it out. One of the sides kind of go is like in and the other one kind of goes over that. And then it's opposite on the other side. There's a little ledge on one side, too. And so, you're going to fumble with it. So, you know, and you That's the other thing is you know, you got to turn the robot on first. Uh and you have to open the the ball each time you want to turn them on or turn them off. So, that's kind of a bit of a a bummer, but I don't really know how else he could have done it because they you know, they have to have that ball and it has to be a you know, smooth. It can't have a switch or something.
And then um So, yeah, it's a learning curve to get that ball to go on. It Once you kind of got it fit right, it snaps together and it it kind of snaps together pretty tight. Getting it open is much easier.
You just squeeze the sides and then it'll pop off. Squeeze the sides where the seam is, but don't squeeze it too hard cuz you don't want to crack the plastic.
And I [laughter] just love this. It he is so fun to [clears throat] drive around.
I just think he looks cool, too.
Uh also the um the two halves of the of the ball, the clear pieces, uh they're uh bagged separately and then they also have a piece of tissue that separates them. So, you don't have to worry about them getting scratched.
But uh definitely don't don't play with this outside. It'll scratch that ball up so bad. So, this is not an outdoor type of thing.
>> [laughter] >> It's so cool. So, I found this on Amazon. I'm not sure why it took me this long to find it. Normally, this stuff pops up on my Amazon feed because they know what I like.
Um but this one's really neat. They have another one that looks like BB-8. It's by the same company and it has like the BB-8 head on top and then it's held on by a magnet, but I was reading some reviews on it and it didn't seem like people really liked it all that well. It It looks a little clunky. I think this one's probably better than that one.
But uh it retails for around $80. You're going to have to kind of your mileage may vary when it comes to the price of this.
I got it a little bit lower than that.
It was like $78 or something like that.
So, it seems like the price >> [laughter] >> Oh god, I just love this thing. It is It is so fun to play with. Um yeah, so the the price is going to vary depending on what you get it on, you know, what day you hit it on. But I'll put a link in the description if you want to get one of these. This isn't a a paid promotion or anything like that. But I absolutely love this thing. It was a lot of fun to build. And uh couple of areas that Actually, it went together pretty good.
I Anything that was wrong, I it was my own goof up cuz I didn't look at the drawings uh you know, close enough.
>> [laughter] >> God, I can't stop playing with it. All right. Well, anyway, that's it for this video. I hope you enjoyed it. And if you did, don't forget to hit the like and subscribe buttons. I very much appreciate it. And until the [clears throat] next time, I will see you on the next video. So, thanks again for watching and have a good one.
