This is a textbook example of over-intellectualizing the obvious, using complex jargon to narrate what is essentially just a cold day. It’s academic theater that prioritizes the performance of scientific authority over practical simplicity.

12/05/2026 - Clear skies in the south - Evening Weather Forecast UK – Met Office WeatherAdded:
The cool feel to things looks set to continue through the rest of this week.
I wanted to take a look at the bigger picture first of all. And yes, currently there is a front, a cold front becoming an oluded front lying across southern parts. Behind this, we have this cooler, fresher air coming in, but I also wanted to draw your attention to what the low pressure systems near us are doing.
Starting off towards the north of us, but then feeding southwards down the North Sea. And because we generally then have low pressure to the east of us through this week, we stick with this northerly flow dragging in that cooler, fresher air from the north, which is why temperatures are going to stay a bit below average for the time of year.
Through the rest of Tuesday, however, actually across many parts of England and Wales. Lots of clear skies through the evening. So, it could turn quite chilly quite quickly. But then the blustery, showery weather across northern parts, well, that will become more widespread. And some of these showers, well, they could be wintry over parts of Scotland and could be heavy elsewhere. So, some relatively intense bursts of rain quite likely for some of us overnight with the blustery showers and the the breeze picking up. Whilst it may be a bit chilly for some of us to start the night across the south, I think temperatures may lift a little bit or at least they're not going to drop as low as they have done through some recent nights. Nonetheless, if you're in the shelter from the wind, get any prolonged clear skies. A touch of frost can't be ruled out, particularly over some parts of Scotland here.
Temperatures may just about drop below freezing in the most prone spots through Wednesday. Then, plenty of showers, some of them heavy, some of them thundery, could be some hail, particularly towards the east. There will be some drier, brighter breaks in between, maybe a bit of sunshine here and there, but that's going to be pretty limited. On the whole, it's looking fairly showery for many of us. And we need to watch out for some blustery winds, especially towards the west and also the southwest.
Slightly lighter winds towards the northeast. But those blustery winds will make it feel even cooler than these temperatures suggest. So for many temperatures down a few degrees compared to Tuesday. And when you factor in those blustery winds, it's going to feel several degrees colder. Pretty cool for the time of year. More showers to come through the end of the day on Wednesday.
those starting to break up, starting to ease a little bit as we go overnight.
Coastal parts, particularly those exposed to that northerly flow, will continue to see showers through much of the night. But more inland areas, more sheltered spots, seeing things turning a bit drier with some clearer skies. So, uh, we'd expect temperatures to drop a bit lower for some places than they will through this coming night. So, more likely to see a bit of frost, especially where we get those drier, clearer slots and where we're in the shelter from that brisk breeze. That wind will be easing as we go through overnight Wednesday and into Thursday. So, Thursday, the winds don't look as strong. It won't be quite as blustery, but nonetheless, there will still be a wind around and it is going to still be coming from that cold northerly direction. More showers developing through the day and again, they could be heavy. They could be thunder at times. Most of us are likely to see some showers through the day at some point. Still a bit cool temperature- wise for this stage in May.
Low teens really at best for most of us.
And whilst the winds will be easing, the wind will still make it feel a little bit chillier than these temperatures may suggest. Later on, as we go through the end of the week, well, we are going to see some something a little bit drier.
Perhaps we stick with the showery theme for a while as we go through the end of Thursday and into Friday. But uh yeah, Friday looks slightly drier than the days before it. And will that drier weather last until the weekend? Well, probably not through the whole of the weekend. I think most of us will see some rain at times, but I am also expecting temperatures to rise a little bit as well. What's going to happen further ahead? Well, I'm sure that'll be covered in the deep dive, which you can catch on our YouTube channel, and also in the 10day trend, which will be available tomorrow. Bye-bye.
