High humidity significantly increases the perceived temperature (heat index), making it feel hotter than the actual air temperature, which affects both human comfort and weather forecasting for severe storms and flooding potential.

North Texas braces for overnight storms after dangerous heat
Added:It sounds like we all need to stay ahead of the heat and it sounds like a little rain overnight as well now.
>> That's right. The good news is tomorrow nowhere near as hot as what I was tracking today. We had >> Today was smoking hot.
>> Yeah, as high as 120° here across parts of North Texas. So, overall here as we head into tonight as we head into tomorrow, the first thing I'm going to be watching out for will be elevated storm chances in the forecast that we will be definitely watching out for, definitely tracking here as we go forward. So, one thing I do want to point out, you can see right here. Look at that, Comanche. Got up to 120°.
That's what it felt like I should say there in Comanche this afternoon. The air temperature was 106, but with all this steamy humidity, it felt like 120.
Here for DFW Love Field, felt like 104.
That was our highest heat index value.
No watches as far as heat advisories across parts of the metroplex, but I am now watching a flooding potential there off to our northwest. Now, on radar, this is that zone right there you can see highlighted in yellow. That's where we're forecasting for the highest potential of severe weather here as we head into the overnight hours. And we have a very faint line of thunderstorms developing, including one severe thunderstorm just to the south of Abilene. We had now two severe thunderstorms with this line, and this line is going to slowly work its way towards the I-35 corridor. Pick your town, pick your time of arrival. Here for DFW, looks between about 4:00 and 5:00 a.m. is when this line looks like it's going to cross. So, let's go and break this down with our future track radar. Right around 3:00 a.m. up to our north, we'll start to see a line of possibly severe storms crossing across the region. Once again, the timeline for the I-35 corridor will be between 4:00 and 5:00 a.m. So, I'm stopping the clock here at 6:00 a.m. and you can see most of the heavy rainfall will be up to the north. The farther north you go, the higher your storm chances will be. And right around 9:00 a.m., this is tomorrow morning, your finally Friday morning, we'll still be watching that first batch of showers and storms developing moving across parts of I-30, but we'll also be watching out for some redeveloping showers and storms there as you can see off to the west. Before tonight, a very mild start compared to what we have been seeing with overnight lows in the mid-70s.
But as we head into tomorrow, once again tracking warm and hot conditions once again. The storm chances for tonight primarily up to the north, but as we head throughout the next couple of days, once again, it's not the heat, it's the humidity.
Air temperatures will be in the 90s, upper 80s, low 90s, but it will feel like the triple digits here as we head throughout the next couple of days.
Tomorrow, it'll feel like the 90s, but look what happens as we head into Saturday. It'll feel like 106. Looks like it can feel hotter Saturday than what I was tracking today. So, those are the kinds of conditions we're going to be tracking here across parts of the Metroplex as we head into that Father's Day weekend. So, one thing I definitely want to point out with the extended forecast as we go forward, not only am I tracking the heat, I'm also tracking the storm chances as well. Looks like we'll see elevated storm chances there for Saturday and on Father's Day. And overall, we're going to be watching out for extended thunderstorm chances, even that heat, possibly dangerous heat
