We are back. And uh I know you guys said, "Hey, he's back twice in the day." Yeah, I'm back twice in the day. And I want to just talk to you guys real quickly about what happened today in the case involving Carmelo Anthony and as his jury selection as the jury selection was underway.

[00:03:24]Uh and I would just say that wasn't a lot accomplished today according to multiple sources inside the courtroom, my sources inside the courtroom.

[00:03:35]Uh they actually didn't the members of the public and media didn't make inside the courtroom. They were actually placed into a overflow room while a portion of the uh process was taking place.

[00:03:50]And let me get on camera real quick Stand by. Let me get on camera.

[00:03:55]Okay. All right. All right, who's here?

[00:03:57]Okay, I see I see you guys. I see you.

[00:04:00]So, uh the jury selection process today didn't last a full day.

[00:04:09]Uh it didn't last a full day.

[00:04:11]And we don't know why it didn't last a full day, but nevertheless, uh there were about 600 potential jurors called to the courthouse.

[00:04:21]Uh my sources tell me that the makeup of this jury the the the makeup of the 600 was let's just say unbalanced, so to speak. And that may be because of the demographics and the location of where this trial is being held.

[00:04:40]I can't can't call it. I don't live in that part of I don't live in Texas, nor do I live in that county. So, uh we you know, and it's not Listen, the makeup of the county really doesn't matter. If people have strong opinions about uh this case one way or the other, it's probably going to be good that this you know, that they're pulling from this many people, selecting from this many people. So, with that said, uh we still have a small issue about just how this lockdown is with members of the press and how independent journalists are not get granted a designated seat in the courthouse.

[00:05:25]Legacy Legacy media it's the term was used in the order and the letter that I have possession of.

[00:05:33]It's the only ones that are going to be allowed access based on uh this judge's uh ruling.

[00:05:43]And I found out why this judge may feel a certain way about uh independent media. And he shared this today in open court.

[00:05:54]Uh he said it to the jurors. And he he he reminded the jurors not to be on social media.

[00:06:01]Uh and if they violate that order, they're facing up to 6 months in a county jail for contempt.

[00:06:10]So, he may he drove that point home, and he also spoke about why he advised them not to listen to social media, and it's because he says that his mother was looking at social media and saw something about the way her son ruled in a case.

[00:06:30]And he he had to tell his mother, "Hey Mom, that didn't happen."

[00:06:34]And then he asked him pretty much, "Where did you hear that at?" And she told him social media.

[00:06:38]Well, social media does what social media does. People come on there to have social conversations.

[00:06:44]And you really can't make uh uh make too much of that.

[00:06:49]But, when we talk about independent journalists covering a a national case, considerations have to be made.

[00:07:00]For example, I give a good example.

[00:07:04]Journalist Don Lemon was with CNN for many, many years.

[00:07:09]He's now an independent member of the press.

[00:07:14]Would that same rule apply to someone who comes from legacy media?

[00:07:22]Would that same rule Should that Should that same rule apply?

[00:07:26]I think not. However, some may have difference of opinions.

[00:07:30]And there are disadvantages for independent journalists who aren't granted access to these type of uh trials. One of which is corporate media has the resources to be able to broadcast the content to reach everyone. For example, uh Law & Crime, they can do a a stream in the courtroom and many people can then see it in real time.

[00:08:05]However, when an independent journalist is in that courtroom, they have the ability to have proprietary ownership of that content that they to maybe stream it.

[00:08:23]So, I think the judge this judge is you know, when you look at the judge's background, you can kind of glean as to his thinking.

[00:08:31]And we did do a little research on this particular judge, Judge John Roach Jr.

[00:08:38]And I found out something interesting as I as I was doing my research.

[00:08:43]I don't know if anyone talked about this, but at the end of this year, he's up for re-election.

[00:08:54]December 2026, this judge is up for re-election.

[00:08:59]And someone asked, "Why is that a concern?"

[00:09:04]It's a concern for me because there may be pressure because he's up for re-election that he has to side with the the populist decision in his in his county that he's he was a Conness County District Attorney prior to becoming a judge. He was a judge from I think from 2000 and 2006 until now. But December of 2026, he is up for re-election.

[00:09:38]So, there may be some underlying pressures for him to rule favorable to his constituents.

[00:09:51]So, now I'm looking at the bigger picture.

[00:09:55]If his rulings are not favorable to the the the people that will likely have to vote them back in office, he may not get voted in.

[00:10:12]He may not get re-elected.

[00:10:15]And here's the other problem.

[00:10:18]The courtroom is basically shut down. Shut down in the sense that no cameras will be there.

[00:10:30]And it's we have to rely on the sketch artist.

[00:10:33]And we don't get daily we get people that are viewing and typing their story for the media that was approved. We getting people that are going to comprise and compose their story based on the angle that they out their outlet may want to go with the story.

[00:10:52]And that too can be a problem.

[00:10:55]If we look at the outlets that that have been approved, but we'll see. We got to give these independent, excuse me, legacy media this legacy media an opportunity to show us that their reporting is going to mirror what others in the courtroom have seen.

[00:11:12]So, if this is going to be interesting.

[00:11:15]But, let's talk about this particular judge and his uh some of the concerns or one of the concerns some people have had in this case.

[00:11:24]I'm just going to go over it a little bit about the judge and who is judge uh uh John Roach.

[00:11:31]So, John obviously for those who don't know, John Roach serves on the 296 Judicial District in Collin County.

[00:11:38]Before taking the bench in 2007, he served as a Collin County Criminal District Attorney.

[00:11:44]His court handles felony criminal matters, civil litigation, family law disputes, and other district court proceedings.

[00:11:51]Now, we're going to come back to the family law disputes in a minute, and I'll tell you why that part of what he handles may have been a problem years years earlier.

[00:12:04]So, let's go over his professional background. One, he's a former criminal like I said, a criminal district attorney.

[00:12:11]He graduated from Saint Saint Mary's University School of Law.

[00:12:16]He presided over thousands of cases during his judicial career.

[00:12:20]He's known for a structured, detail-oriented courtroom style and a strong focus on procedural compliance.

[00:12:29]Procedural compliance. Interesting.

[00:12:33]And his his his position on this case is different than most judges in that county where it's more transparent for other judges who are seeing similar cases.

[00:12:48]So, he has a very anti-transparency policy in his court. I say transparency cuz you know, some would say he's very transparent. You can't be very transparent when you don't want cameras in the courtroom.

[00:13:04]And I'll just I'll just leave that there.

[00:13:07]And let's talk about some of his his judicial history.

[00:13:11]One of one of the things which is a slight a slight stain on his his career is that he he and his wife were a part of promoting this divorce-related book and a website.

[00:13:26]See, he if he's sitting as a judge hearing similar cases, he should not now be co-signing a book with his wife on these type of cases. So, that matter would result in a public admonishment by the Texas judicial disciplinary system.

[00:13:49]And his supporters noted that the discipline did not really involve allegations that his judicial rulings were inappropriately influenced.

[00:14:00]But, you would someone ask the question, why are you co-signing anything that have to do with divorce in a book when you are going to be presiding over a cases involving divorce?

[00:14:15]So, it didn't really affect his his standing it with the court. However, it it it gives you a idea of the way he views certain things. And that right there was a conflict of interest, in my opinion.

[00:14:31]So, what other attorneys have saying that his courtroom that his courtroom style is disciplined and focused on maintaining order.

[00:14:43]So, he has this reputation.

[00:14:46]And he has a strong control over the courtroom and its proceedings. He's a Republican, and he has been uh a judge for close to 20 years.

[00:14:59]So, knowing this information, are some of you more concerned that he's the judge on this case, especially in light of the fact that he will be up for re-election in December of 2026?

[00:15:19]Can anyone see a problem with that?

[00:15:23]You might not see a issue with that, but some people may say, "Hey, no. Maybe you want to get a judge who is not at at at the mercy of his constituents."

[00:15:34]And that's just something that people will consider uh well, might might likely consider.

[00:15:39]But other than that, uh the jury selection process will continue on Wednesday.

[00:15:49]And it's going to be a full day according to uh the reporting. And they will be court on Saturday.

[00:15:57]And there's typically no court on Saturday, but in this case, there will be court on Saturday. So, I guess he's trying to because there's no court tomorrow, he's trying to make that up on Saturday, which likely won't be the the court every Saturday because you're already asking these jurors to give up these amount these amount of days to hear this case. But now, they have to come in on a Saturday?

[00:16:21]Uh that's not going to be good for, you know, for a judge. You know, like, "Hey, you you had you asking these jurors to come back on a Saturday." In this case, he's given Well, he's not even giving the jurors a a day off on Tuesday. It's just It's just that he probably want to make up the time lost on a Tuesday. I don't know what's happening on Tuesday. No one's shared that information, but in Nevertheless, there will be make up on a Saturday.

[00:16:48]So, if you were planning on hanging out in the park, someone come If you're coming from out of town covering this case, and you think you was going to get some free time on Saturday, now that's a work day. So, you got to be prepared to be in the courtroom on Saturday.

[00:17:02]Uh other than that, uh what do we have What else do we have?

[00:17:06]We We have no uh I don't think there was any family members that were seen in the court today because the courtroom where way the judge presides at was uh taken up by the potential jurors.

[00:17:23]And other members of the public and the media was in a overflow room.

[00:17:29]I don't think the overflow room will be in play when the trial starts because again if you have an overflow room and you have people able to move move about then it would defeat the purpose of having a lockdown so to speak in the actual courtroom because the the people are going to be able to hear all this information on the monitor.

[00:17:50]In the In the Diddy trial there was an overflow room with monitors. So we were able to see what was happening in that particular courtroom. But in this case it's only going to be uh live action in the courtroom that the trial is taking place at. So we'll we'll we'll have to see.

[00:18:11]So I don't know if you guys will uh agree with me this judge just doesn't doesn't like independent media covering his cases.

[00:18:20]And and he typically doesn't like media in the courtroom.

[00:18:24]From what I'm told. And based on his record. So we'll see.

[00:18:29]We'll we'll see.
