This video captures a historic face-to-face meeting between Senator Edwin Sifuna and ODM Party Leader Oburu Odinga on May 13, 2026, marking the first time these two warring pillars of the Orange Democratic Movement have met since Sifuna's controversial removal as Secretary General in February 2026. The meeting, held at a neutral venue, represents a critical attempt at reconciliation between the 'Linda Mwananchi' faction and the 'Linda Ground' faction as both prepare for parallel rallies on May 31. The encounter highlights the deep political divisions within Kenya's ODM party, with Sifuna refusing to recognize the new leadership under the 'Broad-Based' arrangement. The video explores whether this meeting will serve as a final attempt at reconciliation or if it will only deepen the 'Mount and Lake' divide, raising questions about whether ODM is heading for a permanent split ahead of the 2027 General Election.

UNEXPECTED! Sifuna & Oburu Meet Face to Face!Ajouté :
face, old age or in life itself then becomes a sermon.
So the elderly like Mama Treesa teaches that life passes quickly, that earthly beauty fades but faith endures and that to live well means to walk daily with God in joy and in suffering, in strength and in weakness.
It means remaining faithful even when life becomes difficult.
So the life of this good smiling mother here reminds us that holiness >> because of the school schedule we will speaker my name is major dong member of parliament >> I've known Richard as a very resilient with your family may you be encouraged and you let our mom rest in peace and the energy that you have the one that you are using going through the euro I believe you have gotten it from here. So may your mother rest in peace. May God bless you.
Senator Mi one word Senator Auari.
Thank you very much honorable member.
Good evening everybody.
>> Good evening.
>> I want to bring uh condolences from a movement called Linda Moni to the Omok family as their spokesperson and to encourage our brother who I think is the second senior most after Senator Oringo in our movement. I've known Richard as a very resilient person for many years.
When he first tried to run in 1996, we were with him. He lost. He lost again in 1997.
He lost again in 2002.
In 2007, he was elected MP for Kitutu Church. And when I asked our other friend, honorable Angueni how come uh honorable Richard won this time, he said he had created two ad administrative units in Kitutu Church and appointed women as assistant chiefs and people were so annoyed.
But in 2013 the constituency was split. Richard was our assistant minister in the grand coalition with the right honorable Raa Moinga. We traveled to many places with him. He's a very resilient man and I've also the opportunity to bring condolences from my father who started his teaching practice in Moso Kadinotunga and my mother, God rest her soul. They both taught in Yaburu at different times. So they knew your mom.
I didn't know that until today morning when my father asked me to convey my condolences to you.
uh since I see very many people and I'm also the secretary general of Azimo and also the spokesperson for Linda Moni.
There are many people here would like to come and join Linda Moni especially here. Please come and join us. Thank you very much. See you in Kissy.
>> You can leave the mic there. uh a special request uh from uh her excellency Martha Kua who has requested but that she's leaving. Uh I was hoping she would be brought by uh Dr. Fred Matiangi but let us say a word.
God is good >> all the time >> and all the time.
>> All protocols observed.
I'm here to stand with the family of Senator Richard Ona who is known to me personally. I didn't have the privilege of meeting the mom but seeing how he has raised him and the type of leader he is, I know she did a great job and we are here to tell the family that uh be comforted by the work that she has done. We have heard about her history and the things she has done.
She has left such a rich legacy. It should be of consolation to you. We all know that one day we will leave. We are never ready when it comes. But we are there to stand with each other and give each other strength. You will be in our prayers as a family. I have heard Karoli inviting the people in front to Linda Maini. Let Linda Maini come towards us.
Let's meet somewhere in the middle. That is what people do. And uh I think that will will happen because we are all moving towards the same direction. None is greater. We are all looking for a better Kenya. May mama rest in peace and may we remember that this is the journey we all have to make.
>> Thank you. [applause] Thank you. Ion lady one word.
Senator Essie Okuri.
Fore Paul Teresa.
Mama Teresa.
Thank you very much.
>> Thank you.
We hope in the next parliament say I am not happy with politics in the church.
>> Thank you. Uh we are getting to the tail end of this. Uh Senator Godfrey Osi.
Allow me to pass my condolences from myself, my family and the great people of Viga who uh Senator is very close to the people of Viga and the family as well. I just want to say that the people of Viga, we will be joining you in Kissi to celebrate the life of Mother Teresa and uh Senator and myself.
We have similar characteristics.
We served in the National Assembly together and now we are serving in the Senate together. And you know recently we faced similar circumstances with him. So I pray for you my friend even as you mourn your mother. Thank you very much and God bless you.
In terms of program, in the afternoon uh from 2 p.m.
Catholic Church uh where we'll be having uh the people from around the community paying tribute to Mama and viewing of the body on Friday morning.
and a few dignitaries in the afternoon program uh my brother and my friend Senator Richarda and your family and all of you uh fellow moners. God is good >> and all the time.
Uh father we will observe your instructions and guidance.
I have been asking to come and say uh do a very simple assignment invite my colleagues who are here to say a word or two and we will observe the guidance that we have been given by uh the leaders of the church.
uh we will have an opportunity when we are in Ky to speak some more and we have had opportunities to speak a lot before but my brother Richard I would like you to know that all of us are here to stand with you and your family and we pray that the Lord continues to shine his face upon you to strengthen you hold you by his mighty right and we will say some more later outside this circumstance including responding to Karoly Mundi's invitation.
I I would like to request a few of you again in recognition of the guidance that we have been given by the leaders of the church and those who are here to say poorly so that u we allow the family to proceed with the rest of [snorts] the program. The first one will be my good friend of mami stuna.
Come and see.
Thank you much. Uh to the family of Mama Teresa led by my brother uh Senator Onya, all of you leaders who have congregated here this afternoon.
I greet you in the mighty name of Jesus.
Hamjambo.
I will be very brief. Father, I am a Catholic. I will abide.
Um, Senator Ona, my brother, I still feel terrible.
Uh, father, the day before Mama Teresa left us, I got a message from Senator Ona. He told me, "My mom doesn't look very good. If you can spare 5 minutes, I would want you to come and see her." And because of this new responsibilities that uh have been thrust upon me, I didn't have the time father on that particular day. So I told let's try and see if we can go tomorrow. And uh in the morning we actually met with senator.
Then he did something else. Then we went to parliament and then we said we're going to see mom. Uh we will leave parliament at around 2:30.
His car was a bit far so we left in my car. We were going to Ahan hospital. We got to parklands and the senator pulls out his phone and he sees the message that mama has left us. I felt so bad and uh I think I've learned some lessons there, Senator Hyona, that when it comes to our parents now, spare no second. If they call you, you just have to go. I feel like I would have acted differently and maybe I would have seen your mom one last time before she left. So uh uh mine is just to say Paul I have a lot of respect for you uh and you know why uh father in the life that we live as politicians there are very few people you can go to war with very few when the war begins you'll be 10 after 5 minutes you're five after 3 minutes it's you and the best example that I can give allow me to give this example there was a war about a company called Adani you all remember that war.
We fought that war with Senator Ona because we were saying we believe that development must undertaken with transparency and it was a difficult one because our boss then the honorable Oinga had taken a very different view but respect you have earned my respect.
I want to say Paul I will be joining you at home in kiss you on Friday so we can say a few other things without the father without the father feeling uneasy because you know we have things to say.
Uh, next one will be a good Muse here, a party leader of ODM, Senator Aburu Odinga.
H I don't have much to say this afternoon.
I came here for this uh very solemn occasion to mourn with my our brothers and our sisters and particularly my colleague Moima who has lost his dear mother.
Losing a mother is not easy.
I know it because I have lost my mom.
But I remember I cannot remember in my life when when I had a deeper pain than when I lost my mom. I've lost everybody else. I've lost my brother. I've lost my my brothers and I've lost my dad.
But the deep feeling I have I have had ever in my life was when I lost my mom.
Because mom is very dear to life and Moa the young man is my friend. His father was my colleague. We worked together in the ministry of planning and he was an accomplished economist.
I was working under him when my father died where I was the provincial planning officer for the government in western uh province in Kakamega and I remember [clears throat] going to M to the M to ask him whether he would release me to go and contest seat because people had asked me to do so.
But uh when I went to him, he told me that he would be very happy if I joined and joined Ghana.
But I told him Jeromogi is the leader of official opposition.
How can I dare to go to Bondo people and tell them that now I want to stand on a Canu ticket.
Canu was our enemy.
And we the one Jamugi was fighting against. Though I was working in a Canu government and I was I was a very senior officer in the Canu government but uh Canu was still though they were still our enemy but me I managed to work with them.
Can you imagine how how I maneuvered to work? And my father was the official leader of the opposition.
Yes, I think you know it Eugene. Yes, we are together. So, uh he he asked me but I told him I'm sorry I cannot contest on can ticket but I just want you to release me because I was retiring under the 40year rule. the the 40-year rule, which meant if you are already a senior government officer, you could retire and get all your benefits if you were released by your minister, if the minister allowed you. But then when I went to the personnel department, uh they told me, "No, no, no, Buru, you don't need that permission. You don't need that permission. So you you you you you can just retire and get all your benefits. And I told him say, "Yes, I'm retiring." And we agreed and he supported me. He's the only person who supported me with cash. Even my late brother did not give me a single.
Yeah. So, mama has done her work. She has brought up very bright children.
and she has finished her journey and we only wish her to be put by our almighty God in her place which she deserves. Thank you very much.
Yeah. But uh uh I had understand there is something called but me I'm unering ODM I'm the party leader of ODM I didn't hear I didn't hear anything called ODM going by the bishop's guidance I'll reserve my comments for now but you There some lines and some allowances that the age forces you to allow and this we are in charge we have been preached.
Um thank you so much for your comments. Um, by the way, uh, Senator and your family, we have a special condolences from our colleague, the honorable Steven Colono Musoka, who is traveling.
And uh, we will also deliver more of those messages when we're in Kissi. The interest of time, uh, let me invite my brother and my friend Eugene Wamalo.
to Crystal.
>> Uh my brother, Senator Richard and your family, fellow moners, I bring my condolences to my brother, Senator and his family. From my family and the larger family of the Democratic You have very many friends who would have wished to be here from DAPK who have sent me with their condolences and also a lot of friends you have in Kital where we live together. Many would have wished to be here but they have sent their condolences. Also our brother, former speaker, former AG JB Muti would have wished to be here but he has also sent me with his condolences.
uh please accept our deepest condolences and like many other colleagues here have said uh I didn't know Mama personally but uh I know her son we have served together in parliament we have lived together in Kital and uh we've done many things together politically and when I heard he had lost his mother I said I must be here to to stand with you I'm also Catholic athic a very devout Catholic and looking at the history of Mama Terza I think Mother Terza's history reminds me of the history of Mother Terza of India Mother Terza of India was also a very devout Catholic woman who later on became a saint and looking at what mama did our mother Terza here her work from the cooperative world the banking world and particularly in church. There are many Catholics, many Catholic women, millions of Catholic women across the world. But very few Catholic women have received that recognition of the pope himself and it is such recognition that will go to special people like Mother Terza of India. So we are very very proud of her as our Catholic mother and some of the virtues we have seen in her are reflected because they they were imbued in her son Richard. Those of you who have worked with Richard know this.
Some of those values are values of integrity and he has served as a leader as a minister as a member of parliament in the national assembly as a senator as a lead. He believes in leadership of integrity and even when we are faced with corruption in this country.
I do recall the Adani case as honorable Sifona has said we came together as the opposition to challenge the Adani case.
Many Kenyans will remember that Richarda was actually the whistleblower on the Adani case.
It was not an easy thing. His voice cut across the Senate and across the nation.
We went to court and challenged the three Adani deals that were disposing of our crown jewels in the country. JKIA, Ketraco and the Shadil. So Richard, we see the virtues of mama in you and we celebrate your leadership. Though mama has left us, we are not just here to mourn but to celebrate with you and to celebrate her. Many people are wondering, I know father has said we don't talk politics here, but many people are wondering why the entire leadership of the one-term movement is here. I just want to set the record straight. Many of you might not know this, but Senator Richarda is not just one of the senators in the one-term movement. Senator Richard on is the founder member of the one-term movement.
On 27th of January 2025 when we received his excellency regard Gashagua after impeachment when he first joined the opposition we were in Karin we received him with senator ona and uh his excellency Steven Konzo Mio and on said that time that he was here to hold brief for his principal Dr. Fred Matiangi who was in the US but who was coming to join the one-term movement. So that is why my brother we are here with you and even as the one-term movement expanded beyond the United alternative government and now we have the Linda mani this same is the glue that is holding the two units together. He belongs both to the alternative government, the opposition and he belongs to Linda Men. So he's a utility player playing across the chess board and he is one who actually believes in the principles that are going to ensure we unite. Whether you are in the United Alternative Government or Linda Mani, our goal is one. It is like in the scriptures they say those who said we belong to Paul others said we belong to Cphus others said we belong to Apollos but we all belong to Christ that is the belief Senator Onya has and he's going to play a major role in uniting the two units when we come together eventually to finish this job.
Today I want to say to all of you colleagues who are here I know there are many presidential candidates here but we have all agreed that we will agree on one candidate. This is going to play a major role in uniting the two units and in producing that single presidential candidate. I have no idea who that candidate might be. I'm a presidential candidate. If justice vari is a presidential candidate, my brother Ri is a presidential candidate. Fred Matiangi, Martha Kua, we are all there.
We do not know who will be, but we all know who will not be.
Senator Richarda has an idea and is a keeper of that secret. May God bless you. May God bless.
Please, >> father, I promise you I'll be done in the next two minutes. And since Eugene Mallalo is your member, you you can you can do as you please after this.
Though usually when we are in Catholic services I always the other day and I were in a Catholic service and I was asking Eugene I always watch the Catholics who are taking holy communion during that time and those who are not taking holy communion. Then I was given a reason why those who don't take holy communion don't take hol communion. I wouldn't say it here today but uh for now let me invite my elder brother my friend and our retired chief justice David Maraga say You know, I'm told it has to be raised.
The family of M is here.
led by Senator.
I know some a few members of the family and the the the sisters toka, brother Jimmy and the others.
I also know Dr. Kena whom I have known for many years and uh Gladis the wife to my friend Baloi Gugi.
We have come to join you to say po for the demise of uh your dear mom and dear sister and uh to a great woman from the eology and the history we have about the deceased.
This was a lady who was a human being.
She opened our doors [snorts] to the less fortunate.
She paid school fees for those who could not pay.
These are the people Christ was saying.
If you look after the list of these my brethren then you are indeed a son of Christ. We say polish to what has happened.
We are with you in prayers as you lay your mom, your sister and the rest of the family. We say polyana.
I'm happy we have come here together with very many leaders here.
Let us all think about what this country requires of us.
The status quo must be disturbed. It just can't go on the way it is. Thank you very much. [applause] Say it as only a judge could say it.
Uh finally, uh very finally I am still an African child.
Whatever titles we have, I still answer to the community edict.
His we have a caucus of goosey leaders and elders.
In a gathering like this, the last word is said by the elder.
So before I invite our last speaker who is my brother and my colleague, my friend, his excellency the second deputy president of the republic of Kenya. I'd like to invite him professor Samiri who will speak on behalf of [applause] the Sanhedrin of the elders council of kissy h it's hard to moderate elders but and I thank you your excellency we have come here together Richard and your siblings.
I don't know whether you appreciate although you are in pain and the family is in pain.
There's something that has come through ever since your mother left us.
You have been at the forefront of ensuring unity of this nation, unity of your family and the unity of Kenyans staying together.
You stood for certain values and I know your mother from early childhood.
I know your father from early childhood and her brother Charles and Dr. Ka these are friends that I grew up with and today listening to the clutches today the father preaching I saw the trend of unity of purpose [snorts] for this nation.
It came out very clearly and in a tangible manner.
And let me you let me assure you your mom rests in this knowing fully that it was very rare to unite everybody together.
All of them from the other side of the divide plus our side of the divide. We seem to be going in a different direction together.
for the unity of this nation.
Please remember the glue that puts together this unity is the passing away your mother. Let that be a memorial also for all the leadership who are here that you have a duty to do.
You don't have to shy away.
I believe in God and God is able to put us together in the leadership we want to look for in this nation. God bless you all.
Because I'm not going to anything after this. H so Mushima after the next speaker makes his remarks the mic will come back to you for further guidance on how we proceed from here.
I'll only say one word for the many of you leaders who are here from Kissi.
Circumstances such as this have brought all of us together.
On Friday when we go to lay mama to rest, it will be an opportunity for us to demonstrate the maturity responsibility that's characteristic of all African communities.
And uh to echo what Meri has said here, we have all been brought together regardless of where we come from in terms of our political thoughts and positioning uh by the sleeping of our mother here.
So I look forward to a peaceful, respectful, decent send off to this mama and uh most importantly an opportunity for us to start thinking hard about how we strengthen our togetherness as we move forward to build this country.
our brother and our friend, honorable Kashawa. I reserved him for the last because he served as deputy president of the Republic of Kenya.
He's our good friend and colleague in the United Alternative Government, very solid supporter not just of our cause but who has been with us.
And Richard, I will have an opportunity to thank you properly on Friday because for a long time when I was away, you were holding brief for me in the United Alternative Government and you are also holding brief for me in Linda Maini.
There you are holding brief for me in many of these other good places.
God will reward you for doing a good job.
Um so please welcome and make some remarks.
Thank you very much uh referend father the family of the late and the leaders present to >> God is good >> and all the time.
as reverend father we have he had your instructions and if there will be any disobedience it will not come from me because I'm a husband to a pastor and you know when you are husband to pastor you are like a pastor so I cannot uh Richard on our senator and your family we have come to say Paul we have come with the hanker shift wipe your tears because it's part of our tradition as Africans. When one is down, when one is crying, we all come together.
I did not have the privilege to meet your mother, but listening to her eiology, she was a great woman, a woman of integrity.
reading her eiology because I live with a village.
When I was removed from work, I was sent to a village called Woro.
So, I'm a villager.
In the village, the villagers have a way of identifying integrity.
And it's good, I tell you, so that you know when your integrity is in question.
The villagers anytime there is a meeting and they ask for proposals who will be the treasurer for a certain function.
The person proposed by everybody that lady lying here was a treasurer for a record 32 years.
It is clear in everybody's mind that her integrity was beyond question.
So, So we just came to say Paul and we wish mama well I agree with Edina there are certain things that need to be said but father you say they should not be said here and others are lucky they'll have an opportunity to say them in Ki I'm very unlucky because I'll be out of the country I would have had many things to say but allow father without going into politics who you send on to his kinsmen.
He put me in a lot of trouble. We were in a funeral for the late Okoma, Victor Okyoma in Kitali was deputy president.
He rose to speak.
He hammered my boss terribly about Daniel and other things and I was expected to admonish him. I didn't. I was called and dressed down for one hour.
But when I was admonished finally I got annoyed because he abused me. I told him but what ona said was true and I agree with it up to today.
[applause] Hi cousin.
Hi Ko.
Hi cousin.
>> [applause] >> Uh thank you so much.
>> We respect you and we don't expect you to be shouting that in church.
You may make us discredit those that you follow.
It is good to respect church.
MC, what do you want to say?
>> Thank you, father.
Uh I would like to appreciate Kazindri and at this point I I invite Senator Ona to give a a vote of thanks before I give direction on how we move from here.
Thank you.
Um [clears throat] for all of you who have uh come here today, first of all with my family members, my brothers and sisters and my children, my nephews, my aunties, my uncles.
Thank you for coming.
For the team that I have worked with for the last two years, that is the political class. I want to say Ricky G, thank you. Because there's something I'm going to tell you that I discussed with my mom. Do you remember I used to talk with her? There's something I'll tell you before you go. Eugene, thank you for those wonderful words. I have so much respect for all of you. My father's friend, my guardian, and the man of great honor, Honorable Amos.
I saw your message. I was unable to get back cuz we've been running through this. Thank you, sir, for coming. I'm really, really appreciate. Gloria Oroa is my twin sister.
She has been there when what many people don't know is that when Matiangi was coming, we knew he was going to be arrested at the airport. So, we agreed we'll do two things. I'll be watching and standing with a fimi and if things really get bad, Gloria was going to start screaming and we made sure they knew that. So we walked down the stairs with Fred. He jumped into his car and we are saying hallelujah, hallelujah. Justice Maraga, a man, I have no words for you. The most incredible judge that Kenya has ever had, including my community. We have a lot of respect for you. Honorable Professor Samongeri, my father who brought me up, saw everything about my life, was there when I started my politics. Thank you for coming here. Governor James Onai, thank you sir. My mother always talked about you because you are his cousin and thank you for making Kissy one of the best counties that was being managed when you were there. Honorable Kibagendi and your team, you Gisro Aasa who opposes you but you respectfully handle him. I'm talking about Barango and the whole team in Kissi of Linda Maini, the whole team of Jubilee, the whole team of DCP, all of you. God bless you for coming to honor my mother.
Well, first let me say what my mother told me so that I don't forget. She told me to apologize to you because I impeached you. She didn't know you were a good man. Neither did I.
Now I know. I am so sorry.
I am so sorry.
If you were if you were to give me back that thing, I would really tell them something. So I hope you'll forgive me for having impeached you. And sir, I did not eat the money. They brought some to their house but I refused. Okay. Thank you my my friends my brothers.
Sona I have something about you. I don't know what it is.
This is a team of the best students at Ria.
