KARNATAKA POWER SHIFT BEGINS: Siddaramaiah Lands In Delhi, DK Shivakumar Set For Big Move | BreakingAdded:
Viewers, breaking news coming in after weather turbulence and a diversion to Jaipur late last night, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM D.K.
Shivakumar landed in Delhi this morning amid [music] intense political buzz.
Well viewers, that is a big update that is coming in that Siddaramaiah has finally landed in Delhi to meet the Congress high command which is which includes Rahul Gandhi. Now, we are getting to know that he he'll have one-on-one [music] meeting with Rahul Gandhi at 9:00 a.m. Viewers, you can see on your screens those are the visuals that Siddaramaiah has finally landed in Delhi and we are joined by a Sherin Elizabeth on this broadcast. A very good morning to you, Sherin. Tell us more.
>> Uh good morning and last night from Karnataka around 4:30 is when Siddaramaiah along with the AICC state in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala and Yatindra were on the same flight, the chartered flight. But they were supposed to land in Delhi around 8:00 p.m. but around 7:30 is when due to bad weather they had to land in Jaipur.
Now, they have landed finally in Delhi and 9:00 a.m. is when there is going to be a one-to-one meeting with Rahul Gandhi at 10 Janpath and this is going to be a big meeting as far as the future course of Siddaramaiah is concerned because we have to see how the central leadership uh try to accommodate uh Siddaramaiah because he is one of the tallest leader. We have already seen Siddaramaiah saying no to Rajya Sabha birth but our sources have been telling us that Rahul Gandhi is going to insist him to take the Rajya Sabha birth even might offer the floor leader position which uh right now Mallikarjun Kharge hold. Uh but as far as the Congress party's policy is concerned, it is one leader one post and that is why they're willing to uh perhaps offer a uh the leader of uh leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha as well. We have to of course see whether Siddaramaiah will agree to it because he had made it very clear that as far as national politics is concerned, he's not interested and want to actively be in the state politics.
So, apart from that, there are also 10 to 12 ministers who are accompanying uh not in the same flight, but they are also reaching Delhi because there are also talk about cabinet reshuffle uh that is uh going to happen. Uh this discussion is going to happen. So, we'll get to see who gets what, and also uh who or what are the demands of Siddaramaiah as far as the leaving the Chief Ministerial post is concerned.
>> Right now, Shereen, of course, the Congress uh has finally entered a decisive phase after months of speculation on this. Now, both leaders are now in Delhi and uh in lined up for high-level meetings with the Congress high command. But, you know, Siddaramaiah had uh rejected outrightly this Rajya Sabha uh nomination seat. So, what else do you think uh the Congress party can offer him in the state level politics?
>> Well, we have to of course see because we are not talking about uh any uh other leader. We are talking about Siddaramaiah who's a mass leader, who has been in the Congress party for 20 years, and out of those 20 years, uh 16 years uh he was leader of opposition and Chief Minister of Karnataka. So, he has a very good report card as his political career is. And accommodating a tall leader, if not nationally, then how is he going to be settled in the state? Of course, uh Siddaramaiah is going to make multiple demands as of as uh who all should be in the cabinet.
Uh he might ask something for his son also, but our sources have been suggesting that so far Siddaramaiah uh has not put any demand to the high command. Probably in this meeting uh at 9:00 a.m. is when he will be uh revealing what is really in his mind. Uh but uh June 8th is when the last date of nomination for Rajya Sabha elections are up.
The Congress high command is hoping that by June 8th they will be able to make up mind of Siddaramaiah to come to Rajya Sabha instead of staying back at the in Karnataka.
>> Right, right, right Sheerin. Only time will tell what is on Siddaramaiah's mind. Now, many thanks Sheerin for gathering all that. Now, with that viewers we'll listen into some political reactions.
>> The CM has given his resignation the governor's office. The governor was not there. He's given the resignation. The next CM will be elected.
Well, I already have clarified that whatever he high command told and he has followed high command direction.
So, definitely I said No, he has said that see automatically CLP and DIC is going to announce the name. So, he has to wait for it.
>> Well, one of the longest serving chief minister of Karnataka across all the three parties, Mr. Siddaramaiah, has tendered his resignation. It's a very sad day for all of us. We all legislatures are with him, but from day one he's been telling the day the high command tells I will resign. So, when honorable Congress president as well as leader of opposition in Lok Sabha Mr. Rahul Gandhi he he also told that he has to resign and make way for a new Chief Minister. That's why without batting an eyelid even though the governor was unavailable and the governor asked him to come after 2 days, but he ensured he told that no since I've given my word I'm coming and gave the resignation.
>> Do you think Mr. Siddaramaiah is happy with his decision of resigning or do you think that he was forced and nudged by the top brass to do it?
>> Definitely, you know, the after hours and hours of discussion with the word leaders like Rahul Gandhi and also Mallikarjun Kharge Venugopal he has reconciled himself that to the position that he has to give up power as promised by him you know the when after the election. So the I think he's totally from his demeanor I can find out that he acted as a statesman and a gentleman to give up power so that he will cooperate for the functioning of the government.
>> So will there be cooperation? You believe that is the case? Siddaramaiah his supporters all of his loyalists will ensure that D.K. Shivakumar runs the next 2 years and his government smoothly?
>> Because the the political and personal stake of stake lies in operating with the Shivakumar. Shivakumar is not a stranger. He has right from you know the 19 in fact in 79 he has been in the Congress as an MLA and also as minister for four or five times. So he he he knows the ethos of the Congress party and of the legacy of the Congress and he's not taking over as a or Kaliga as a leader, but he's taking as a Congress party with the all this you know the legacy of the Congress party and also the governance.
>> Mhm.
>> So he knows the nuances of the governance and I think he I don't think he's a new person to take over and you know the he will introduce new culture, but he at the at the same time since he's a young person, you know, he will be in a position to uh contribute a lot of vibrancy and also the bigger in the functioning of the government.
>> So then where does that leave Mr. Siddaramaiah? He is not inclined to come up to Delhi to take that Rajya Sabha seat as the top brass wants him to. So what next for him?
>> I think he will continue to be in Karnataka politics and continue to take interest in all backing up the Congress government, you know, having served as a Congress party had given him a excellent opportunity to to make him the leader of the opposition and also the as a chief minister and you know and it's you know his tone of his you know the speeches and the statements particularly after he submitted his resignation and agreed to submit his resignation. Uh make it very clear that you know you you you like to repay the debt which he owes to the Congress party and he will fully support the government of D.K.
Shivakumar and the Congress party.
>> I want to understand from you now that all of this is a done deal. Is this for the better for the Congress party or do you anticipate that it could still create some problems?
>> No problem, madam. Better for Congress in Karnataka. All solving high command and the KPC CAC our leader Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi ji and Kharge ji and also both our leaders Siddaramaiah ji and the DCM Shivakumar ji and in charge our Surjewala ji and the Well, good handle is going all smooth.
>> After the resignation, Siddaramaiah did make it clear that he doesn't want to go to Delhi on a Rajya Sabha ticket, which means he wants to continue to play a role in state politics. That could be tricky, isn't it?
>> So, he's good but Siddaramaiah G is experienced and our idea is he wants to Karnataka is very important politics in Siddaramaiah. Future if he did resign, future also Siddaramaiah wants future government and future Congress party.
>> But do you anticipate that there could be any problems in the way that DK Shivakumar is able to run the next government?
>> No, no problem, madam. All senior is there.
The ex-our KPCC president and home minister Parameshwara is there.
Siddaramaiah is there and so many senior leader is there.
No problem is our DKC also very experienced leader.
>> We are looking at a new era for Karnataka, one that ends, a new one that begins with the leadership of DK Shivakumar. How do you foresee the state of Karnataka to shape up? Are you happy?
>> Yes, madam. I'm very happy because Siddaramaiah resigned as per the direction from Rahul Gandhi G. He has resigned.
I know CH system of the DK Shivakumar is coming and we all cooperate and we'll bring the good name for our Congress party, madam. Well, we will work together and in all matters we'll >> No internal friction?
>> No, no, no internal friction.
>> No internal friction, sir. Is everyone happy?
>> Everybody is happy, madam. In the Congress party, always whatever high command says, we will oblige and we'll be happy.
>> Sir, we hear already demands are coming in from each different community.
Yes, can you hear me?
Mahadevappa, Priyank Kharge lots of them are asking and eyeing for the Deputy Chief Minister's post. You know, now demands have started to be made openly.
>> Madam, always demand will be there in the all the party, madam. It is their luck and and uh high command will see whether they want to make a Deputy CM or not like that. They will decide, madam. Everybody may ask I am also asking for cabinet minister. 135 members are there.
Everybody is asking include ministry also. But they cannot give a ministry post for everybody. They will select each region wise they will select, madam. Like that if they want to give for the DCM post, they will finalize. They will sit together and they will decide, madam.
>> Sir, are you an aspirant? Are you an aspirant?
>> I am aspirant for ministry post, madam.
Not DCM post, madam.
I am very senior man.
>> Okay, so you want to have you want to have >> My mother also MLA, my father also MLA.
I I am coming from freedom fighter family, madam.
>> Okay. Okay. Are you a DK camp or a Siddha camp, sir? I mean now now it's established who's who. Do you want to Do you want to pledge your allegiance?
>> Madam, madam, I am a Congress group, madam. Not a DK, not a Siddha man, not other people. We are all Congress group, madam.
