BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) is an alliance of the world's most important emerging economies that has grown from five to ten countries since 2009, representing nearly 40% of global GDP and challenging the established post-Cold War world order dominated by Western powers; the group has expanded its influence through increased trade (rising 40% to over $700 billion from 2021-2024), currency diversification away from the US dollar, and the establishment of the New Development Bank, though internal divisions and the disparate nature of the coalition present challenges to its effectiveness as a unified global force.

Should We Americans Be Worried? BRICS: The Rise Of A New Global Order? (Reaction)Added:
What up Massina Squad, and welcome back guys. As your boy Shawn.
>> And your girl Mel.
>> Yes, yes, yes.
>> Welcome guys.
>> Welcome back guys, all right. So guys, today we got BRICS, The Rise of a New Global Order. Now, you guys dropped this off inside of the comment section.
>> Yeah.
>> And we are learning a lot.
>> Yeah, absolutely.
>> So before we get into it, go ahead and smash that like button and turn on that notification bell so you guys will be notified next time we upload. And don't forget hype this video what? It really helps guys, all right. Here we go.
>> This is a story about how the world's most powerful, richest country is slowly losing its influence.
>> And it's evident here.
>> We can see across Brazil thousands of Ford cars almost disappear.
>> Meanwhile, China's BYD is becoming increasingly common. Ford left a plant abandoned.
BYD, they modernized the plant. They are now producing >> [music] >> electric cars from Brazil.
It's evidence of the growing connection between Brazil and China, the B and the C of the BRICS plus coalition.
>> Wow.
>> Oh.
>> Wait a minute.
>> Wait a minute.
>> Wait a minute. Wait a minute. Wait a minute.
>> So this is why it's called BRICS.
Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.
So what are they like a an >> Alliance?
>> Alliance, a team, or something?
>> Hold on. Where's South Africa?
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
That that that that right there is a is a nice powerful um alliance because Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa?
>> Seven.
The most important emerging economies in the world are the four BRICS, Brazil, Russia, India, and China.
>> My fellow Americans, this is liberation day.
>> This mantra >> America first >> has created an opening.
>> The trade war increased the solidarity between BRICS nations.
The BRICS are now emerging as really the only global forum that can stand up to Trump's trade war.
>> They want a multipolar world in which there are multiple centers of geopolitical influence.
>> But can these countries unite to become a meaningful global force?
>> Is this like a NATO type thing?
>> To answer this, it takes an understanding of how economic power collided with circumstance and whether the group can overcome some big hurdles.
But first, the acronym BRIC was coined in 2001 by Jim O'Neill, who at the time was an economist with Goldman Sachs.
>> I thought it was quite clear that the so-called emerging markets were going to become more important to businesses, and so I sort of played around with the idea, and I wrote a piece called The World Needs Better Economic BRICS, and the rest is history, so to speak.
>> Eventually, it's went on to be popular among [music] the governments of these countries who held their initial summit and [music] established BRIC in 2009.
>> The first-ever BRICS summit is getting underway in Russia.
>> In 2010, South Africa was invited because it was a major economy on the African continent.
>> Wow.
>> Over time, more countries started expressing interest in joining BRICS.
China became a major trading partner and a major foreign direct investor in many countries across the global south. And a lot of countries saw this as an opportunity to elevate themselves geopolitically as they were not part of other multilateral groupings such as G20 for instance.
>> BRICS is an inclusive formation that has the ability to change the trajectory of the global south.
>> Four members joined in 2024 and this year Indonesia joined as well.
So now there are 10 countries >> joined?
>> 10 countries equals economic [music] power.
>> Oh, and then >> Look at how the original BRICS have grown compared to the G7 in terms of global GDP since 2009.
It surpassed the G7 in 2019. Now add in the expanded lineup and its share is nearly 40%.
>> In terms of GDP by purchasing parity [music] it has overtaken the G7 countries.
The trajectory is clear.
Uh BRICS countries are growing faster.
Their populations are growing as well for most of them.
>> This boom in population and wealth has also given the group more political might which in turn has made more countries interested in joining.
>> BRICS' main objective is to challenge the established world order which appeared after the end of the Cold War.
Russia is definitely interested in more member states of BRICS partly to offset its [music] relative diplomatic isolation after 2022.
>> Power was aided by circumstance.
>> [music] >> Sanctions imposed by the US and on Russia are one reason why trade among the bloc's first five members rose 40% to over 700 billion from 2021 to 2024.
>> Wow.
>> Sanctions also contributed to an increasing amount of all this trade being done in local currencies.
Look at the red line.
That's use of the yuan bypassing the dollar in China's overseas transactions.
>> China represents more than 35% of Russia's external trade.
>> BRICS has even talked about a common currency.
>> Overall, BRICS countries supports reduced trade in US dollar as a tool, as a method to reduce overall Western economic >> Oh my lord.
>> dominance in the global economy.
>> The minute our dollar is going down.
>> They're making our dollar weaker.
>> China's influence within the BRICS plus club cannot be overstated.
>> China is the biggest, most powerful, richest country in the BRICS group. So, the BRICS works as an instrument for China to improve its economic and political power on the global stage.
>> Since before the beginning of the BRICS, Lula has always been enthusiastic about China. Brazil under his first presidency in 2004 was one of the first countries to recognize China as a market economy.
>> Lula realized that China and Brazil had very complementary economies.
China wants to have access to a huge consumer market and it needs food security that Brazil can provide.
>> Wow.
>> This graph shows Brazil's exports to the US.
Now we're adding in exports to China.
From 2009, China was Brazil's top exporting partner.
And now it imports more, too.
So, it's all good, right? Well, there are some hurdles.
For Brazil and other BRICS plus nations, the geopolitics of trade is complicated.
>> Trade relationships within BRICS [music] are not as developed as, say, within the EU.
BRICS is not a trading block or group.
It wasn't meant to be one.
Each country is dealing with the issue of tariffs individually.
>> Brazil doesn't really want to pick sides. Brazil wants to have the ability to trade with US, trade with China, with the European Union, all at the same time.
>> So, why join BRICS?
>> A variety of tensions between different BRICS members have kept the group from forming a united front.
But they have managed it with the New Development Bank, which finances projects across the global south.
And provides loans with fewer economic and political conditions compared to the World Bank.
>> It's not focused on advancing [music] Western values and human rights issues in the same way.
>> Small at the moment, but with potential for growth.
So, even as the US steps back from its role as a global leader, the disparate nature of the BRICS plus coalition is its weakness.
Although size gives it clout and opportunity, divisions may keep it from bending the global order towards its goals.
>> I think it's difficult for the BRICS countries to really pursue a joint path on the things that really matter for them collectively, [music] as well as for the world.
It's very effective as a symbolic grouping, but how that evolves is probably going to depend to some degree how all their individual economies do, how they perceive the US is moving [music] economically and politically, and how seriously they themselves want to move on big global issues like climate change, infectious diseases, global trade, and so on.
>> Okay, so this is good information um that we just received because uh this is just things that we need to know, you know, what's going on in the world because >> Absolutely.
>> All these powerful leaders joining together.
>> Absolutely.
>> How can they be stopped?
>> We had no idea about the BRICS, you know, and I'm pretty sure there are many Americans who don't know, like they're trying to demolish our dollar.
Like weaken it.
>> And I don't >> But that that's a lot of power.
>> It's a lot of power.
>> too much power.
>> It's a lot of power.
>> place, you know.
>> Yeah.
And it's >> know if that will work, you know.
>> It just seem like it's a trade war thing going on and they're coming together.
>> And then a lot a lot of countries >> Getting you know what I mean? Getting all their ducks in order.
>> Yeah.
>> While we are tariffs and all this stuff.
Sometimes it's just I'm just like >> Baffled, right?
>> Yeah, I'm just confused sometimes.
Because it's like who are we friends with?
>> We stand You know what? We have the ability to stand alone here in the United States of America, but we also you know, need other people, other countries. So we have to build trust.
>> Right.
>> A mutual trust.
And they they saying that Canada is joining with China now. They're doing a lot of trading.
So, you know, the more we watch these videos, the more we learn.
So, it's definitely helpful.
I just want America to be just who we say we are.
I don't want our dollars to fall. I don't want our country to fall.
>> Like, you know, like we're turning into like a third world country. It's really scary.
So, I just I pray for America and pray for everyone.
>> And I know that these leaders are watching us closely.
You know, so I just feel like we got to do everything right. There's no room for error.
>> There is because that's like one powerful alliance.
>> Yeah, they are powerful together.
>> The BRICS, oh my goodness.
>> South Africa >> I'm like, wait a minute.
Where is the United States? Like, we're not included?
>> Brazil, Russia, China, India.
Man, that's power right there.
Wow. We want to thank you guys for dropping us off beside the comment section.
This is really helpful.
And you know, I'm just grateful that we have it on our platform learning as well.
>> Absolutely.
Learning is definitely the key.
Absolutely.
>> Wow, but it's getting crazy out here.
>> Let us know what you guys think. Give us your opinion about it in the comment section.
>> Absolutely.
>> We appreciate the love.
>> Thank you guys.
>> you guys.
