This documentation offers a grounded perspective on ecological resilience, illustrating how local marine life navigates the immediate disruptions of coastal engineering. It serves as a practical case study in the intersection of human intervention and environmental recovery.

fishing at apche pier after the beach renourishment project is there life?追加:
Oh, dude. They had a whole damn trim head. Oh [ __ ] Oh, hey oh.
What's up, guys? Welcome back to the channel. I was going to shoot a second intro just to have the option. I was going to let y'all know what the plan was for the day. We're coming out to Apache Pier.
Obviously, I've already fished, but the main goal for today is two main goals is just to fish small baits, small pieces of shrimp, just to see what kind of life is out there because they just did the beach nourishment. And uh you know I want to see exactly how that's affected your smaller fish like pinfish, croakers, spots, stuff like that because obviously big fish eat small fish and so on and so forth. So that's pretty much it. We're going to use uh a hyo rig with circle hooks on one rod and a single dropper rig on the other that I'm just going to hold in my hand and walk piling to piling and see what we can catch.
I don't know if I mentioned my second goal. I don't remember. It was to catch a spade fish. That's two goals. See what kind of fish we can catch and catch a spade fish. But that's pretty much it. I'll let y'all get to the video. I hope y'all enjoy and we'll see you at the end.
All right, everybody. We are here.
All right, y'all.
Looking like low tide, so I think I'll walk more to the end. I usually start shallow and go to the end, but might as well mix it up today.
Water looks good. Still a east wind.
I see that dredging boat out there again, but he's further down.
Let's see what happens.
All pretty much set up here.
Just going to start out with a single dropper loop.
All right, y'all.
Try this again.
First cast I got snagged under a bunch of stuff under the pier.
Try little T little split shot rig.
See how it works.
If not, we'll do a dropper loop.
Oh, first fish of the day. Feels pretty heavy.
Oh [ __ ] Oh [ __ ] Oh [ __ ] Big old crab.
>> All them eggs.
Send her back. That's about 10 million baby crabs right there.
Something else here. What do we got?
Little shock.
Little shocky shock.
All right, y'all. Basically, I didn't like that split shot rig for this.
I just tied a little dropper loop, put a small J hook on it, and I'm just walking around from piling to piling, dropping it down just to see what kind of life is out here.
after the beach reourishment.
Caught that little blue crab. That was pretty cool.
One thing about Apache, you got to be careful around the pilings and trying to swing under the pier cuz they got crossmembers and people get snagged on them and there's fishing line hanging around everywhere.
swimming in with her again, I think.
What? I ain't fighting real hard.
Another shot.
These guys are kind of late. So I wonder if everything else is kind of late compared to last year at least.
Little bit of sunshine for you.
Still a little bit of seaweed. Ain't too bad. The water is pretty dirty though.
But it's low tide, so I can see the clean water right there. Hopefully when the tide comes in, it'll clean up some.
All right. Yo, figure it wasn't much happening where I was. Tried it for couple hours.
The water actually looks way better down here.
So, we'll give it a shot down here.
The wind right in our face. I'm sure that sounds great.
Got some rain down there.
Might get it.
Good chance for me to touch my rain jacket. I redone it with some spray I bought on Amazon. See how well it works.
cuz I put it in the shower and sprayed it down and all the water rolled off of it. So, I know last time I used it, it was not waterproof at all.
This line's pretty slack.
Yeah, we got something on there.
Got a little fight to it.
Surprise!
Another little shark.
Hey, he's still alive.
Operation Pigeon Rescue.
You come more dumb dumb.
>> He's had better days.
Great.
>> Go rehabing.
>> Yeah.
Walk down and try some shallower water.
Try to get away from them little sharks.
The jugger straighten out both my hooks.
How the hell something else here? Oh, whiting.
I should have been in the surf the whole time.
Not too shabby.
Perhaps there is hope after all.
Try something crazy. See if there's any sheep's head down there.
You never know.
The hell, dude. They had a whole damn trim head.
Oh [ __ ] I don't really feel like a shark.
Don't go right up here.
Damn, that didn't really feel like a shark.
Well, y'all, the weather's clearing up pretty nicely. Uh, I don't know what I just missed on that rod. I don't think it was a shark. I think it was a big red or a black drum.
crazy few minutes of action right there in the surf slowed back down.
That's good.
Sounds of life.
There goes the dredging boat as soon as the water clears up. I don't know. He don't look full.
sits really low to the water when it's full of sand. Unless he's dumping it right now. I don't know.
Got him that time.
Oh, devils.
Two for one pin fishes.
All right. Oh, something pulled me into the piling on my little single dropper here. Broke me off. And unfortunately, I don't have any more of those. They're called Oculite hooks. They're good for sheep's head. only have mosquito hooks.
So, if I hook into anything big, it's probably not going to be good. Like a sheep's head or anything. Pinfish and whiting would be fine, but if I actually hook into a sheep's head, we're probably not going to win that battle, but you never know.
Some taps by the pole here.
Yeah.
Damn.
What is that? Hey, that's what I wanted to catch today.
Sick.
That's a spade fish.
Beefy little guys. They have to be really big to actually keep them.
Got something pink fish.
Hey Pin fish.
He swallowed it. No, good. We're good.
Ha! I got my bait back.
All right, y'all. I think I'm about getting ready to wrap it up here.
That's about it. Wouldn't mind staying a little longer to fish more into the high tide, but we caught some fish today. I say mission accomplished.
These are owner mosquito hooks. Really good for catching daily small fish. If you just get bored, want to mess around, I'll try to link them in the video.
All right, y'all.
I hope y'all enjoyed. Was nothing crazy.
Um, I did get hooked up to a shark at one point and it bent my hooks out cuz I guess it just swam through my line or something. I don't know. And then I was hooked up to something.
I don't think it was a shark. I feel like more it was a big black drum, but I could be mistaken. Uh cuz a a lady next to me I feel like hooked into the same thing, whatever I did and it fought the exact same way. It just went around and then went under the pier and then she got it out and then it went right under. Uh when I fought it, it went under the pier, but I got it out but then the hooks pulled.
I'm sure somebody will catch it.
Whatever it was, if it's a giant black drum, uh, I'll see it on Facebook.
But I think we accomplished our goals.
See what kind of fish activity there is.
And catching a spade fish. That excited me. I like catching them. They're neat fish to have around here. Uh, I don't remember the size exactly that they're allowed to be able to keep. I think it's 17 in. It's giant. You would never catch one that big on the pier. It's hard to catch them that big off uh offshore.
Um and then yeah, lots of small fish, a lot of pin fish, whiting. I didn't see any croakers, which is weird. Uh I didn't see any Spanish today, but the water was kind of murky.
Uh a few blue fish. One kid caught a flounder.
That's pretty much it, man. I feel like we're a month behind because the water got so cold during the winter time. I might be wrong. You know, Myrtle Beach isn't really known for renown fishing, but cuz I was catching those little sharks and I feel like last year I was catching those in April and then everything else started to pick up the flounder and pompado and all that.
I don't know. I ain't no marine biologist, but the ocean is definitely coming back to life, so that's good to see. Anyways, I appreciate y'all watching and we'll see you on the next one, which might be some freshwater stuff. I don't know. I need to run my boat. I might go to the river tomorrow and uh catch a bass or some bow fin or something if I don't get bothered by the DNR because it's Memorial weekend.
Anyways, appreciate y'all and we'll see you on the next one.
