We Just Found A 100% Original Motorcycle In A BARN - Can I Ride It Home?Añadido:
Today, Chris and I are hot on the trail chasing down what might be one of the nicest original condition motorcycles I've ever seen. A few weeks back, I got a picture on a text message and I knew immediately this is a bike I need to try to add to my collection.
>> So, that's it, huh?
>> There she is, >> man. Now, I've been collecting original paint bikes from the 40s and 50s for years. And if this bike is as nice as it is in the picture, it's going to be one of the crowning jewels of that collection. And if you want, we can roll it out into the sunlight.
>> Yeah, let's do that, man. While we're here. Yeah. Cool.
>> If I can make a deal and bring this thing home, Chris and I are going to get right to work making this bike run.
>> Cool, man. So, what you This looks like a aftermarket coil.
>> Yes, I've got the original one in there.
It wasn't firing when we got the bike.
>> Yeah. Looks like it might have had It had silver cylinders. So, they painted the silver the cylinder silver and not black cylinders.
>> Silver.
>> Yeah. Still got the hydraulic push rods in it.
>> Okay. Yeah. Yeah. That's >> bad about fail.
>> 48 49 50 51. I think >> it is in good shape.
>> Yeah. And I think that might be like a 52 or three seat, but that's still a nice seat. It really is. Cool luggage rack. They got those are Harley bags, too. You can see here it's got the Harley emblem there. It's a nice set of bags.
>> Yeah. Exhaust pipes changed.
>> I've got the original muffler. Pretty typical stuff.
>> Chain cover, too.
>> Yeah, outer chain cover. That's a neat piece. Door knob shift knob. But that's cool. Um, what do we got on the inside of the gas tanks?
Oh, man. You got you got fresh fresh gas in there. I can see the fume coming out.
>> Yeah.
>> So, you said And now this is a remade top windshield.
>> I've got the original windshield in there. So, we replaced this and this.
>> Yeah. with using the these look new >> and I've got those in there.
>> Yeah, that's >> we saved everything that came off this bike.
>> Man, that's a good thing that you did because you never >> I've still got the oil filter that was in it.
>> Yeah.
>> I mean, >> yeah, >> these are not the original bars. I've got them in here, too.
>> Okay. Yeah, I think those are 1949 only bars, >> maybe. So, I do not know where he come up with them. He just found them and >> Wow. Interesting. Interesting.
So, you don't think none of this has been repainted, huh?
>> No, it's original paint.
>> Wow.
>> I mean, there might be some touch-ups here and there, but >> Sure. Yeah, bound to be, man.
>> Pretty slick. So, tell me about this bike. How long did your dad have it?
>> He bought it in ' 05, I believe.
>> Okay.
>> Yeah. And I've got some pictures of it in there when we brought it home.
>> Yep. And you said it was all taken apart.
>> Yeah, >> pretty much. Yeah, it was pretty much the engine and was still in the frame. The back tire was still on it.
Somebody had pulled the front end off of it and the tanks and the seat.
>> Okay.
>> And uh so we had a heck of a time getting that up on the trailer like that, of course. But >> yeah, I bet you did, man.
>> Rumor or the story goes that the original owner's grandkids were going to restore it, so they started taking it apart and thank God they got tired of it and quit. Right.
>> Good thing they quit. Yeah, you're not kidding.
>> Yeah. The only thing dad done to this bike was clean it up and put it back together.
>> Look at that. That's how it came right there. So, this is where it starts, guys. A testament to the preservation on both these guys parts. I'll tell you what, it takes a guy that knows his stuff and understands what all this is all about to take something like this and preserve it into something like that. You know, that's really neat. Part of the story is that bike wasn't always like that. It went down to this.
>> Well, you guys got it hoisted up there.
>> So, dad went to drain the oil out of the transmission and plug stripped.
>> Oh, yeah.
>> So, my dad's been heavy construction all his life. And John over here, he's like, "Oh my god, we go ahead and pull the transmission." Dad said, "No."
>> No.
>> He hooked it up to a chainsaw, flipped it on its side, tapped it out, run it back down, flushed it out.
>> And there he is laughing about.
>> Yeah.
>> He was he was a character. He was a character. It >> took him almost a year from the time we got it home to the time >> that big picture was taken.
>> That was right after I got it back together.
>> There it is. Probably first start like that. Yeah.
>> Yep.
>> Rolling it off a lift for the first time.
>> They did really good.
>> What do you got under here?
>> That's another one of my dad's projects he left me.
>> All right, man. My mom had a 65 Impella.
I don't know what happened to the car, but dad pulled the engine out of it, stuck it in storage.
>> So, that's a 280.
>> That's a 327.
>> 327. Oh, yeah. Looks like it runs, huh?
>> It does.
>> Yeah.
>> You want to hear it?
>> Yeah. Come on.
God dang, man.
>> Gets warm. It'll idle. But >> yeah, that thing don't don't Is it stock? It don't sound stock. But >> when I put it back together, I set it up like a Corvette.
>> Okay.
>> It's got Corvette cams. It's got a Corvette intake. Corvette style Holly carburetor.
>> Cool. Yes. 10 half to one compression.
It's a >> Well, let's look at your other parts, too, and see what come with it all. They call these a cigar muffler toolbox.
So, yeah, that's definitely the original toolbox with maybe What do we got in there? Oh, the the screws grips. These are actually Yeah, these are >> those are the bars that was on it when we >> These are the bars that were on it, but I don't think these are the original bars. Do you know that was the original stuff?
>> Oh, cool. You use the >> Yeah, we use the hardware.
>> Nice. Yeah. So, it's just new lenses in there right now.
>> So, what's all this stuff here?
>> So, that goes with it, man. This is This is the side car that came with it. It's a guling. And that's all I know.
>> Ging. Well, they call these rocket nose.
>> Rocket car. Ging rocket.
>> Can you imagine if them kids had painted this whole bike that color?
>> I'd have been sick.
>> Oh, what a shame. Yeah, >> cuz I think they started with this and I don't know if they I don't know about the paint job. We haven't touched this side car. We just brought it home. We put it in storage.
>> Sure. Sure, >> man. I that bike out there, I don't know that any wiring has been modified on it >> or replaced. Yeah.
>> Or replaced other than right where we plug the battery in.
>> Cool. Yeah, I noticed that. That had some dark black wires. Um, yeah, it sure looks good, man. It does. As far as engine work is concerned, the only thing I know is I pulled the cam cover and done an inspection when we first got it just to make sure everything was okay.
>> Yeah, >> this engine was stuck. We put craw oil down in the cylinders and it soaked for 3 weeks and every day dad would walk by it and he'd hit the kicker and one day he walked out there and it moved.
>> You get a little movement and you'll eventually get a lot of movement.
>> Whenever you're ready, we'll fire it up.
>> We can try and crank it up. Yeah. Okay.
That's not what I was expecting.
What kind of oil have you been running in it?
>> I think that's got Drag Specialties. Uh 50 weight.
>> Okay. 50. Yep.
>> Got a light.
>> You got a light?
>> Yep.
>> All right.
>> You want to do it?
>> I'll crank it up here. You hold on to these.
>> I'll hold these.
>> Yep.
>> Horn don't work.
>> No, don't work.
>> Just a little. Yeah, there's power there, but >> y >> Okay, let's see here. How many kicks is it going to take? One kick. I like your confidence. All right. So, if you do it one, it's a 61, too. So, two.
>> There we go.
Oh, I missed it. It was going to start on one kick.
Come on now. Come on, Matt. Let's go.
Let me start fresh. Start fresh.
Here we go.
Huh?
It's going to make a liar out of me.
>> Oh, it might it might be my legs.
>> Okay, here we go.
>> Leg asleep from driving so far.
>> That must be what it is.
There we go.
When the bike fired up, it ran absolutely perfect. And from that moment, I started having the crazy idea, maybe I could try to ride this bike home.
>> Then, uh, I I do I really do like the bike, man. And, you know, as far as the side car goes, I'm game for that.
>> So am I.
>> Yeah.
>> Sounds good.
>> Awesome.
>> Yep.
>> Good deal.
>> Awesome.
>> Yeah. Cool, man. Well, I'm I'm proud to own it and I'm really really glad that you called me about it. Well, I I wouldn't want it to be anywhere else because they won't start it. They won't ride it. You know, they'll drain the fluids out of it and it'll sit there and >> Yeah. Yeah.
>> But you guys will at least get out. So, I've seen most of y'all's videos. I ain't going to say I've seen all of it.
>> That's awesome, dude. Thanks for adding one more to the to the list there.
>> Well, I'm glad it's going to a good home.
>> Yeah. Really cool. Well, I got to get you paid up, man.
>> We got to get you loaded up. Now that the deal's done, we're going to get this bike loaded up and shoot an hour down the road to my pal Mike's place. If I'm going to ride this bike home, we're going to have to look it over thoroughly. And there's no better place to do it than Cycle Mo Speed Shop. It looks like we'll be rolling in just in time for breakfast. And if we're lucky, we might actually get some work done today.
>> All right. I wonder if anybody's home.
>> Yo, what's going on, guys?
>> How are you?
>> How are you?
>> Good, man.
Mikey Bear.
>> Mikey, how are you, man?
>> How are you? Good.
>> Mike Silvio and I have been best buds for years. We've traveled thousands of miles together, raced together, rode together, wrenched together. If I'm going to get a motorcycle running and riding on the road, there's no better place to take it than Mike's. He's one of the best mechanics I've ever met, and he's an absolute ton of fun to hang out with.
>> So, you got this right here in uh right down the street?
>> Right down the road from you.
>> Cool. Look at that.
>> You know, it's got it's it's weathered and there's been a few things I'll I'll show you when we pull it out that like a few pieces he's touched up and there's a few repop parts like he put these grips on and the spiral. This is a >> that's Yeah, that's no big deal. It's all fixable stuff.
>> Paint's great.
>> The paint's great. And >> it's a uh it's a special order color only. You had to order it. You could this this they didn't produce them with this color. So right off >> what's going on with this uh >> line >> the oil cap.
>> Oh god. The Have you never seen one of those?
>> What does it do?
>> There's a bobber in it that shows you your oil level.
>> Really, >> dude? They're so Who made those?
>> Uh I think it's like a an Atlas part or a Nation built or something like that.
Yep.
>> Oh boy.
>> Look at that, sweetie.
>> In the in the light.
>> In the light.
>> What do the tanks look like?
>> Here's the thing. I got there and he's like, "You want to hear it run?"
>> No.
>> So, we fired it right up.
>> No.
>> Yeah. I was like, "When's the last time it ran?" He said, "Two weeks ago."
>> So, we don't have any hardly any work to do.
>> But, >> let's eat donuts. Let's go to red.
That's right.
>> But there's a few things on it, you know, like the mirrors are >> reproduction. One thing I did notice, >> they must have been missing when this they put this thing back together. Then this new >> coil on it.
>> New coil because this should be straight >> these. So this part's been replaced.
>> Mhm.
>> You got one of these?
>> I think I might.
>> A straight one.
>> I might. Yeah.
>> So I got the original muffler, which I figure we probably put on.
>> Did you ride it?
>> I haven't ridden it yet. hadn't even put it in gear.
>> Let's do it.
>> Uh yeah, man. So, I figured we'd roll it up on your lift, swap the muffler, bolt the toolbox on, check the fluids, tire pressure, and >> put a battery in it.
>> Yeah, put a real I got a real battery. A good battery. It won't bounce around.
Man, it rolls good. Oh, it rolls good.
>> Dang. Nice Chief, too.
That's snazzy. 48. Mike's collection is absolutely over the top. He's got such great taste in antiques and motorcycles and memorabilia and has an awesome way of putting it all out for people to see.
He actually ran Cycle Mo as a motorcycle museum for a number of years before deciding to close down the museum and focus on rebuilding and restoring antique bikes full-time.
>> How much for the hounds tooth uh riding pants?
>> Those are nice. Guess those are NOS >> LLBAN.
>> Really?
>> Yeah.
>> How long have they been around?
>> Apparently a long time.
>> Those would fit you, little munchkin.
>> Does it actually fit?
>> Matt, what is this?
>> That That's awesome. It's supposed to have supposed to have an eagle there.
>> Have you Do you have you seen it?
>> Mhm.
>> So, what era is it?
>> 20s. Oh my gosh.
>> Yeah, that's >> I mean it is the coolest thing I've ever seen even without the eagle.
>> Yeah. Yep. And I don't know what they were doing here. Uh mine I don't think has those holes in it. No, that's awesome.
>> Isn't that amazing?
>> It's great. It's cast aluminum in it.
>> Yeah. I just Or is it that it's cast?
>> Yeah, it's freaking cast. That is amazing. What a great part. I'm hung up on these LLBAN joggers, man.
>> Go ahead and put make a pile. You got to buy have some If you're gonna if if you want those, you have to buy something heavy >> really to go along with it.
>> Okay.
>> Yeah. Have you seen the snow go? Do you have one of these at the museum?
>> Um I do, but let me see what that one's like.
>> Oh, this one's nicer than yours.
>> Oh, dang. You got it hooked up to a bike.
>> Yeah.
>> No way. Check it out, y'all. It's a snow go. So, it's an attachment that you'd hook up. Probably what 1960s 50s.
>> No, actually early '60s. early 60s and you take off your rear wheel, hook up the snow go and you got tracks. Really freaking cool.
>> I've only seen three of them.
>> How much for the Springfield RORs jersey?
>> It depends on whether or not it fits you.
Oh my gosh, that was on that was on him.
>> That was on little Maddie.
>> That was little Matt Matt.
>> Dang. What?
>> Yeah, >> it actually does.
>> You look like you're in a marching band, >> dude. It's like perfect, man. Look at there. We're going to talk about that later.
>> Yeah, that's going to be a hard buy right there, buddy. You know, I'm really big into clothing and guys named Matt.
>> MC triangle jacket. I love that stuff. I know you're into clothes.
>> I am. That's why you need to put that down.
>> No, let's do some horse trading. But like I said, the deal stands, man. You got to buy something heavy.
>> Heavy?
>> Mhm.
>> That sign's heavy.
>> Which one?
>> That little one.
>> Southern battery sign.
>> No, that Harley sign.
>> So, it's for sale, actually. If you want kind of run out of time with it.
>> Oo, look at that front wheel, dude. What do you want for it?
>> What do I want for it?
>> Oh, boy. Now he's really screwed.
>> Now I'm stuck. Now you got to take it.
Now you have jinxed. How much?
>> Look at this on film right here. This is >> how much?
>> It's got a title.
>> Title.
>> I got I got a new wheel for it back there. It must you imagine how how that felt. Oh >> my gosh.
>> He's probably still in uh >> still in ICU.
>> Yeah, he's probably still in traction over that. Actually, if you're going to buy that, then you need to buy this.
>> If one of our viewers doesn't buy it, call me. How much for the bars?
>> Have you sat in this thing?
>> You know what's amazing? This bike looks like it's missing a whole bunch.
>> Mhm.
>> But it ain't. The gas tank, it never had a gas tank on it. Gas tank's back here.
>> Oil bag's back here.
>> So, all you got to do is put a transmission in it and hook everything up.
>> That's crazy. I forget.
>> It's Thor. Dude, >> did you hear car horn?
>> That might be UPS with my package.
>> Yes.
>> You came and showed up. This is it, >> man.
>> Oh, a good mail day we've all been waiting for. This is a new doughut mix.
>> Oh my gosh, >> that's a good one.
>> Wow, what a nice piece.
>> It is. This is in great shape.
>> Gosh, >> it's not for sale. Show me the bike you're going to put this on.
>> Let's go up front. I'll show you. I'll show you why.
>> Dang.
>> I'll turn on some lights.
>> So, what in here's for sale?
>> Nothing. Go.
>> Nothing, bro. Come on, man.
>> Everything's for sale, but it's not on sale. Spark plugs are off limits. You can't even >> spark plugs are off limits. Come on, man.
>> You're not even allowed to touch them.
Look at them.
>> Collection. Come look at this. That's all he's got. Ah, >> I mean I mean in those they had babies, man.
>> Holy smokes.
>> They've even spread outside the case.
>> It's like a a creeping ground cover that just, you know, it just keeps going.
>> This is the This is the bike that started that started the whole love affair with antique motorcycles. It for me, this was my late great uncle's 36 knucklehead that I got when I was 14 years old. And um we pulled it out from underneath the back porch of a three flat my great uncle lived in. And he actually rode this home from the factory which you could do back then or you he knew somebody. So this is a legacy bike.
It's a one-owner bike. It's never left our family. And it's factory original paint bike. But interestingly enough, it's a custom factory paint job.
>> It's original paint.
>> Yes. And the reason why it is is the the the red everything's backwards. Like the wheels would have been red, the bike would have been red with black veillances and black tank panels.
>> Yeah.
>> And the last time he rode it, we believe was in 1955 according to the paperwork that we have. And he took it to a Bears game at Solders Field. And when he came out, the front fender light was stolen, the gas caps were stolen, and the air cleaner was gone.
So, that's a reproduction cover.
>> That's a reproduction >> without without an uh you know, a data tag on it or anything.
>> Wow. You going to take it off, put the new one on?
>> Well, we can just we can slide this one on cuz it's >> so >> Oh my goodness.
>> Get rid of that. And there you go.
>> Watching Mike bolt on the last piece to the 36. It doesn't get any better than that. This bike's been in his family since it was new. I mean, does it get any better than an original paint 1936 knucklehead?
>> This is an authentic character reading whatever it is. Um, it'll tell you your fortune. It works.
>> So, what do you do? You stand on it.
>> This will be fun. This will be fun.
>> You get on this thing.
>> It opens up and it says, "Once married, it'd be best for you to stay that way."
>> Is that what it said?
>> Yeah. Yeah, it did. Here. Somebody else try it.
>> All right. Let me see your personal thing.
>> Gossip is your big weakness.
>> Dang it.
>> Whoa.
>> Dang it.
>> That's not like you.
>> All right.
>> All right. Try it, man.
>> You got a dime left.
>> O, you don't need No. No. No. This >> should be your most prosperous.
>> It said this should be your most prosperous. You don't need another one of those.
>> You don't.
You're going to keep going till you get the right one. That's how you really make the money.
>> You dodge trouble by laughing it off.
Huh?
>> Now, we could look around Mike's for hours, but the truth is we've got a bike to prep and a long ride home.
>> Don't forget, guys, your wheels through time toolbox. The wheel wt toolbox.
>> What a sweetie. You know what? I'm starting to kind of like white walls.
>> Oh man, what are you freaking >> I'm just kidding. So, check the oil dipstick out.
>> You've only seen one other one?
>> Yeah. So, it fills up with oil and then there's like a a float in there. And this is your oil fill level.
>> Oh, I did see a little something sticking up.
>> That's right. Yeah. So, I don't know who made them. Maybe one of you guys on the channel knows or one of the our subscribers knows. So, yeah.
>> Need it takes a little bit of time to >> Yep.
>> Is that freaking awesome or what, man?
So, it appears to have enough oil.
No, there's not enough oil in there.
It's a quart low. So, we got uh Put some of that Valvoline in it, Chris. Okay.
They make >> What's this all about? Oh, it's just a spare.
>> Yeah, it's a spare.
>> Oh, how cool is that? That's smart.
>> Pretty pretty good.
>> That's smart.
>> Can he do it?
>> Wait, you want to >> Can he do it? No, it's a contest.
>> Oh.
>> Oh, >> right in the middle.
>> Right in the middle. That boy good.
>> I could he been taught well.
>> He good.
>> He does that every time to me, too.
>> Here, I got you.
Take these >> spilling oil everywhere.
>> What's in here? Okay. Block of wood.
Standard stuff.
>> Oh, that's wire. This >> wire. Oh, that is just an extension. So, that underneath is actually probably a good wire. But the ground wire >> I have I have an original ground wire.
>> Do you? Maybe.
>> No doubt. How much is that? Expensive.
>> That's a lot of donuts. Okay. Practice that.
>> I love that. I love this.
You want a set of like real >> real ones?
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah. If you got them.
>> I sure do.
>> Yes. Okay. Let me grab a screwdriver.
>> Get this wire off. Uh >> I don't like all this electrical tape.
>> Yeah, I know, man. I am going to massage this wiring um when I get home. Let's go ahead and drop that battery. And where did the battery rubbers go? You got one in there.
>> Red, positive, black, negative. There we go.
Yeah.
Oh, no. Good stuff. Topped off on oil.
It doesn't need much, man. I'm going to pull the inspection cover and check the primary.
>> Oh, wow. It's perfect.
>> Dude, this guy like got this bike ready for you.
>> Yeah, he did. Is there oil in it?
>> Yeah, it's perfect.
>> Beautiful. Yeah. Primary chains adjusted beautifully.
>> You know what you're going to want to do? I like I'm going to >> you're going to want to drop the bowl and make sure that >> you think >> Well, from the st not you don't have to do it right now, but if you're going to ride this thing home, I think we should because we don't know what's in there.
>> I'm not I'm just going to run with it and have faith, man. And if on the side of the road, I got to do a float job.
Plugs. Oh, what kind of plugs is he running?
>> Champion.
>> Delos. You got any spark plugs? J12 Y's.
>> Yeah, I've got them. Are your little mitts gonna fit in here?
>> Where? Oh, yeah.
>> Your little mitts going to fit in there?
Cuz my little mitt ain't going to fit in there.
>> Oh, hang on.
>> Feel it.
>> Hang on.
You got it.
>> Look at that beautiful, beautiful toolbox. You got a toolbox key.
There you go. Thank you.
Mhm.
Thank you, sir.
Wow. Okay.
Muffler's got to come off. Oh, yes. I like that.
Okay. Where's Sylvio? I don't know. He headed towards the back. Look for him.
So, >> what are you doing, man?
>> Oh, perfect.
>> Nice.
>> Ready?
>> I'm ready, man.
>> Well, hang on. I got to check them for spec.
>> Let me check. This one's going to be expensive. This one. That's no good.
>> Yes.
Yes, >> those are good. Are >> Yeah, they are pretty good. Look at this. You know how hard those are to find?
>> How many you want? I got tons of them.
>> Really?
>> Yeah.
>> Are you serious?
>> Yep.
>> Original ones.
>> No.
>> No.
>> No.
>> Actually, all that's in such good shape.
I would think that it wasn't original.
>> Yeah. It's >> cuz it's so good, you know? cuz it just normally >> you can see and these been beat around on a little bit.
>> I don't know about that clamp.
>> Oh, wow. That was about in the right place.
What do we have for You got a little box of clamps I can go pick through.
>> Uh-huh.
>> Are these ready yet?
>> They're hot.
>> Mike, do you know what you call a medieval lamp?
H. What do you call a medieval lamp?
>> A nightlight.
>> A night light. Damn, that was too easy.
>> Okay.
>> Uh, you need >> I need I need this clamp.
>> Come on.
>> Yeah.
>> Clamps.
>> Clamps. So, clamps.
>> Oh, this nice.
>> That's the only one I have.
>> The only one you got?
>> You got to buy the whole kit.
Ching.
And then uh me and my buddy right here just wiping away with rags. What do you think?
We out here.
>> We out here. All right.
>> You know how the moon is like dentures?
>> The moon is like dentures. Mhm. Yeah, they both come out at night.
>> They both >> No.
>> Oh, what is that?
>> Oh, what the hell is that?
>> Is that grease?
>> There's a No, there's a piece of metal or something there.
>> Huge hunks of road debris.
>> It's road road grime, man.
>> Road debris.
>> Road debris.
>> Did you get it?
>> Okay, here it is.
And then what did I have for here?
Because that one I don't believe is long enough. You got anything just a hair longer than this, Mike?
>> Try not to screw up threads.
>> I need to pinch that together.
>> Ooh, very nice.
You want a real screwdriver?
>> Stuff that you use.
When in doubt, grab a bigger screwdriver.
>> Yes. Look at him go. See, once you Yeah, there it is. Stay here.
>> Shut up.
>> No, look at the underside of that is freaking like new.
>> How's that possible?
>> I don't know how it's like I don't know.
>> How on earth is the underside of his fender this good?
>> I know. It's like they they clean the heck out of it. They had to they had to they at some point had this all apart.
>> Well, and that's that's the thing is he thought it was a 5,000 mi bike, but then because the original speedo that he had with it said 5,000 mi or but then they found out.
>> Look at this.
>> He I know. I saw there.
>> Oh, yeah. I believe you.
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah.
>> Look straight back.
>> I know, man. I know. And it hasn't been ridden in 20 25 years. And it was a part before that.
>> I'm almost thinking like like detailing this bike.
>> Oh, I know. Yeah.
>> I mean, everything's right.
>> Yeah. And then there's the few pieces that they, you know, he's touched up that were black that are you can strip, you know, >> like there is no attrition anywhere.
>> It's in great shape, man. It really is.
It definitely needs a wash. So, when I get home, that's probably one of the first things I'll do is I don't generally clean them up, but >> like this was painted and they sanded that original factory paint and just painted right over it.
>> Yeah.
>> Look at that's one point one and a half.
>> I know. Look how thin it is right there with that riot type blue under under it.
>> Yeah, that's where you want.
>> No Buck Rogers fender light.
It's a pretty bone stock bike that it looks like they added some stuff to later. Well, what do we got left to do?
Is that it?
>> We're going to adjust the horn.
>> We can try.
>> Yeah. What's that? A 3/8 or 1132?
>> I need an extension.
>> I want that flashlight bracket.
>> I'm going to finish that.
>> How could it be painted the same color as the bike, though?
>> What's that? That I think it's That's a fire extinguisher.
The the flashlight is very cool though.
>> Is it the same exact color of the bike?
>> It's black.
>> It's blue, dude.
>> On this side. It's black.
>> Um, come here.
>> Oh. Oh, man. I mean, we got photo, dude.
He had photos of the bike all apart since the the 50s, you know.
>> This is interesting here, too. Look at this. Look where they rub through on it on the other side.
>> Look at this. What's that all about? Um, that's been painted over. That's a big >> Oh, he might have might have touched up.
Might have touched it up.
>> You're right. He did touch it up. Look there.
>> Oh, but look here though on the bracket.
>> Fire extinguisher bracket.
Pyrene fire extinguisher and bracket.
$13.
>> Yeah. So, it was a factory option.
>> Yeah. But this has been touched up here.
>> And maybe that's when he painted the bracket.
>> Might have been when he painted the bracket because you can see it's a little different than here.
>> Yeah. But but he had to have gotten a hold of factory paint.
>> That's absolutely factory paint. Yeah.
>> 2.42 2.53 1.93.
It's okay. That's actually good in my opinion. Yeah. Well, it tells you the bikes >> you can literally see.
>> You can see the up here the difference.
>> Yeah. And it's And this is single single stage non-clear coated paint. That's what it would look like.
>> Yeah. Hey, you got one more uh colony bolt for mounting this exhaust >> screw. If that was longer, throw them out.
>> Okay.
Yes.
I wonder how this going to sound now that it's got the stock exhaust.
>> It's going to smoke more.
>> You think with the muffler?
I'm ready dog.
>> I know.
>> Don't hit too many bumps. I know she's going to run better.
Do you have gas in it?
>> Oh, yeah.
Okay. All right. Let's ride it. Did you try the horn?
>> Yeah. Uh, let's get that 9/16 and just see if it needs >> a bump.
>> Is it a nine or a five?
>> It's a nine, I think. Yeah.
Now Oh.
Oh, yeah.
Okay.
Let me >> Do you want me to show you how to do it?
>> Yeah, I do.
Well, go ahead.
I'll take that.
There you go.
>> Perfect.
>> Amazing.
>> Do these lights work?
>> Yes, everything works. All those lights work. Okay, man.
>> What's the story on the seat?
>> Uh the seat original covering, new skirt. So, this is like a 52 or three with the vinyl. I think somebody said 52.
I've got a really nice 51 seed at home.
>> Let's do it.
>> All right.
Hadn't even seen if it went went in gear yet.
I also didn't check the tire pressure.
Oh. So, the best part about jumping on this bike and pointing it towards home is Mike's decided he's going to ride a few miles with me to make sure the bike's running properly and we get out of town troublefree.
>> This is my 52.
>> Man, what a >> local bike.
>> 51 52.
>> Both original bikes.
Holy moly.
Love it.
I haven't even seen if this thing shifted yet.
Heat.
Heat.
work.
So, seems to be a fantastic original paint machine.
I agree with Mike. He's like it doesn't look like there's going to be a lot of miles on that bike the way that the paint is underneath the fender. And just observing here, Matt will give the more of the rundown, but looks like it's a really smooth riding machine. Dropped right into first gear when he took off.
Looks like it's tracking really straight. You know, even just looking from behind, you know, it holding a tight line. And uh all in all, another great original paint machine for the wheels through time collection. If you know of a uh 52 out there, you know, drop it in the comments below.
So smooth.
No vibration, man.
The bars are a little bent.
This one here is like a little high.
killer, man. It's so smooth. It's crazy.
Bars are a little bent, but it's just Let's go.
As I'm starting to rack up the miles, I'm realizing this is one special motorcycle. Sure, it's got its flaws, and there's a few things that need fixed when we get home, but it's a real testament to the model produced all those years ago by Harley-Davidson, and also a testament to Clay and his dad's work preserving the >> Dude, it hasn't missed a beat.
>> Not bad for a couple pan heads. Not bad for some late models.
>> Was fun. Thanks for helping me work on this, man.
>> Amazing. So, we're like an hour in and Mike's going to turn around and head back home. I probably got I got three and a half hours left to go. So, little bit of highway, little bit of city, and some twisties. This thing has not missed a freaking beat. Super happy. Clay and his dad couldn't have taken any better care of this thing. We'll get it home, do a few adjustments. You know, bars are a little bent, clutch needs adjusting.
going to do something about that windshield gap down there. But other than that, this thing go on display in the museum. Fire it up, run it, ride it, use it what it was meant for. Make sure you come check it out, guys. Make sure you check out either one of these two videos. Thanks for joining us. I'm going to get back on the road.
