Long Island college grads face a tough job marketHinzugefügt:
[music] >> I was a game presentation intern for the New York Islanders. And then from there, I met a lot of people and I got the opportunity to apply for the Yankees job from people I knew at Islanders. I just got very, very lucky. It can feel a little oversaturated. I know when I was still applying to jobs before Hunter, it was a little overwhelming because I feel like I had all the skills that they required, but I never heard back. It felt like my resume kind of went into a dark hole and I couldn't tell if I was going to hear back or not. And it's really hard with connections, but I feel like reaching out to your professors helped me at least a long way with getting a job. I think having an internship will give you the hands-on skills that will set you apart from other applicants and help you build a very vast network and different connections that can help you, especially if you want to apply for a different job down the road. Being able to have an internship, especially in person, was really beneficial to get to know other people outside of my team. I was able to put my face to the name for them and I was able to come in regularly talk with them, have coffee chats. And I think that's something that will really set someone apart when they're applying for a full-time role there. The job market is very tricky. If I didn't have the Islanders internship, I don't know if I would have a job going out of college. It is very scary. I applied to a couple different positions. I heard back from one of them and it was a no.
Um, I applied to I believe two or three others and just haven't heard back yet.
I'm very grateful for the internship that I had because I was able to meet so many people and now I kind of know where I'm going and I know where I want to go.
