Weather fronts act as boundaries between different air masses, creating distinct temperature and precipitation patterns across regions; in this forecast, a front moving across the UK brings rain to northern and western areas while allowing hot air from the continent to affect the southeast, demonstrating how geographic position relative to weather systems determines local climate conditions.

Week Ahead 15/06/2026 – Heat not getting everywhere– Met Office weather forecast UK
Added:It is going to be wet at times this week, but also marketkedly warmer than it was last week. That's because there's much warmer air across the country.
There's actually some pretty hot air across parts of Western Europe at the moment. And that's going to feed eastwards through the next few days.
Parts of Spain, France, even Italy could get above 40 Celsius this week. And some of that hot air could just about clip into parts of the southeast later in the week. Meanwhile, further north and west, it's always going to be cloudier and a bit fresher with some rain because there's low pressure lingering to the northwest of us. And that's sort of the story that we have through Tuesday.
Really quite a bit of cloud and outbreaks of rain across much of Scotland, northern parts of England, Wales, and parts of the southwest, and also for Northern Ireland, too. And some blustery winds towards the north and west as well. Some more persistent rain starting to push into western Wales later in the afternoon and early evening as well. Across more central, southern, eastern parts of England, it's actually looking like a largely fine day. The sunshine may be a bit hazy at times because of some high level cloud, but temperatures are going to be relatively high, feeling quite hot actually for some with highs of around 27 Celsius.
Elsewhere, we're looking at highs of in the high teens, low 20s, that kind of thing. And yes, with the fresh winds towards the northwest, it is going to feel a little bit fresher. Well, marketkedly fresher than towards the hot southeast. There is a front making its way across the country in association with that low pressure that's still just lurking to the northwest of us through Tuesday and into Wednesday. And it's that front that's bringing the more persistent rain initially like I showed you over western parts of Wales. But into Wednesday morning, more persistent heavy rain across parts of southwest England, South Wales, and then that all feeds further eastwards across central and later eastern parts of England.
could be quite heavy, persistent at times before it clears away towards the east through the afternoon. For the rest of England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, quite cloudy, further outbreaks of showery rain, that kind of thing, and still some blustery winds at times for some Northern and western parts. And worth noting there could be some murkiness, some groiness around some western coastal parts as well with more cloud, more rain towards the southeast compared to Tuesday. Here, temperatures will be down a couple of degrees.
Elsewhere, they're looking similar. So, once more, high teens, low 20s.
into Thursday and there's a a front still lingering across us. To the south of this, we could start to get a bit more of that hot air coming in from the south from the near continent. Uh and towards the northwest of this, it's staying fresher. And as well as that, that front as it edges northwards, well, that's where we're going to see the focus of the rain on Thursday. So quite wet across Northern Ireland, western parts of Wales, North Wales as well, parts of Northern England, and also much of Scotland. a cloudy, wet picture as that front edges further northwards.
Across the rest of England, however, it may be a bit cloudy to start off with, but things should brighten up through the afternoon. And with that hot air from the near continent, while temperatures are likely to get to highs around 28 or 29 Celsius, 30 Celsius, not out of the question, but not that likely for Thursday. Across parts of Wales, particularly Eastern Wales, looks like it will be the warmest day of the week here. Mid 20s, that kind of thing.
Elsewhere, again, high teens, low 20s.
Worth highlighting that there's the potential for some thunderstorms to kick off across parts of the southeast later on Thursday through the evening in particular because of that hot humid air coming in from the south, but that's only a low risk at the moment. Now, there is a fair amount of rain to come through this week and most of it is coming in from the west southwest, but actually day on day where we see the heaviest rain that actually changes. So, I mentioned some heavy persistent rain feeding eastwards across southern parts of England through Wednesday. And then that front on Thursday pushes northwards bringing rain across Northern Ireland, parts of Western Northern Wales, Northern England, and Scotland. And so, well, it is going to be a bit soggy at times, but rainfall totals through the whole week don't look especially high.
Some places getting in excess of 50 millimeters perhaps, but that's not a huge amount of rain. In fact, some people will be quite glad to get some rain at this time of year. into Friday and we still have a front across us and as well as bringing a bit of rain, it really forms the boundary between something a bit fresher towards the northwest and towards the southeast where we have that hotter air from the near continent coming in. It's also towards the south and east where we're going to get the the brightest sunniest weather. Lots of blue sky here on Friday. Otherwise, it's a bit cloudy.
Outbreaks of rain with that front across parts of southwest England, Wales up to Northern England and some showery bursts of rain across some parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland. But actually a decent amount of dry and at times brighter weather too. Like I said, because of that front, we do have fresher air towards the northwest of us.
And so, uh, again, high teens, low 20s, similar to what we've seen really through much of the week, but towards the southeast, probably the hottest day of the week. Could just about get into the low 30s Celsius, 30, 31 Celsius, that kind of thing. It's worth highlighting the difference in temperatures between Friday uh and the average because you can just see how much hotter than average it is going to be across eastern parts. But further west, well, it's actually, if anything, going to be a little bit cooler, fresher than average. And it's all because of that front forming that boundary between those two air masses. That front continues to linger across us into Saturday. We could still see some hot air affecting parts of the southeast on Saturday, which technically could make it a heat wave as we have three consecutive days where temperatures reach above the threshold needed.
There's more changeable weather coming in from the west southwest through the weekend, but also higher pressure towards the southeast. So, bit of a mixed bag for this weekend. We need to pay attention to an area of low pressure developing by the beginning of next week, but of course, we'll keep you updated on any progress that makes towards the UK. whatever you're up to.
And uh if you're in the southeast, I hope you're able to enjoy any of the hot weather. But I'll see you again soon.
Bye-bye.
