President Trump's admission that the US 'shouldn't have been in Iran' signals a potential policy shift, where he defends the 2025 B-2 bomber strikes as necessary to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons while expressing regret over the broader conflict, contrasting this with his criticism of the Iraq war as a costly mistake; this shift coincides with rising regional tensions as Iran claims to have shot down multiple US drones including an MQ-1 Predator and Orbiter near the Strait of Hormuz, with the US denying these claims and warning of potential consequences for airspace violations.

Trump's Iran U-Turn? 'We Shouldn't Have Been There' Remark Raises Eyebrows | WatchAdded:
Is President Trump's recent U-turn on Iran, signaling a major policy shift, raising so many eyebrows across Washington and beyond? After authorizing strikes and military pressure, is President Trump now expressing regret?
And how should we interpret his sudden public questioning of the US role in Iran? As a new peace push gains momentum in the Middle East, is President Trump deliberately distancing himself from past regional wars? And what might this change mean for US strategy and allies?
With talk of a possible peace deal on the horizon and a noticeable shift in rhetoric, is President Trump panicking as Iran pushes back? And could this new tone reshape the delicate diplomatic balance?
US President Donald Trump made a striking admission while speaking about Iran as repeated rounds of negotiations and diplomatic talks between Washington and Tehran continue to face setbacks and fail to produce a breakthrough agreement. Trump said the United States should never have entered Iran, describing the conflict as a disastrous and foolish mistake that cost enormous resources and lives while leaving long-lasting consequences across the Middle East. The US President strongly defended the American strikes on Iran in 2025, arguing that the military action was necessary and claiming it successfully prevented Tehran from moving closer to acquiring nuclear weapons. Trump asserted that Iran would already possess a nuclear weapon today if the United States had not carried out B-2 bomber attacks, insisting that the operation played a decisive role in halting Tehran's nuclear ambitions.
Trump also stated that the United States deliberately chose not to destroy large portions of Iran's military infrastructure during the campaign, saying Washington exercised restraint despite having the capability to inflict far greater damage. The US President argued that completely wiping out a country's military can leave nations shattered and unstable for decades, creating long-term chaos, weakening institutions, and making recovery far more difficult. Here's what the US President had to say in the remarkable new statement, I quote, "We shouldn't have been in Iran, but Iran has the capability.
If we didn't hit them with B-2 bombers 9 months ago, they would have a nuclear weapon right now and will be a whole different story.
You probably wouldn't have had Israel, but you probably wouldn't have had a Middle East. And then where do they go from there?
Their military, we sort of left it alone because we think that their military is somewhat moderate.
They have other people that aren't moderate. We've taken them. We've taken different forms of leadership out. We've actually left their military alone.
People would be surprised to hear that because mistakes have been made in wars where you wipe out everybody and then you have a country that's, you know, for 40 years can never rebuild.
The president further said that a broader agreement between Washington and Tehran could lead to the immediate reopening of the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, restoring global shipping routes and easing pressure on international energy markets disrupted by months of conflict. Contrasting past and present US military strategy, Trump praised the 2025 strikes on Iran as a successful operation that stopped Tehran's nuclear ambitions, while once again condemning the Iraq war as a costly and disastrous mistake that should never have happened.
Iran claims it shot down a US MQ-1 Predator drone after the aircraft allegedly entered Iranian territorial airspace and waters. Iran's IRGC said the incident occurred during the early hours of May 31st, according to statements released by Iranian authorities.
State-run news agency IRNA reported that the unmanned aerial vehicle was flying above Iranian territorial waters before the incident. The IRGC claimed the MQ-1 [music] Predator crossed into Iranian airspace while carrying out what it described as a hostile operation.
Iran said the drone was detected by its air defense system shortly after it allegedly entered restricted and closely monitored airspace. Iran described [music] the aircraft as an aggressive US military drone operating near sensitive areas along its coastline. Iranian officials said the incident demonstrates the country's capability to detect, track, and respond to alleged airspace violations. The IRGC warned that any future act of aggression or violation of Iranian airspace would receive a decisive response.
The United States has not yet publicly [music] commented on Iran's claim regarding the alleged shootdown of the MQ-1 Predator drone.
As tensions with America rise once again, Iran says it has shot down another hostile drone near the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian air defense units reportedly intercepted a drone near Qeshm Island for the second time on May 30th. Iranian army defense units detected the incoming aircraft before [music] successfully intercepting and destroying it, Tasnim reported. Iranian media [music] alleged the drone was a US-Israeli surveillance aircraft operating over the Strait of Hormuz. The downed UAV was identified as an Orbiter drone, Iranian military officials told Mehr News. The US-Israeli drone reportedly entered [music] restricted airspace that oversees one of the world's most sensitive waterways, Hormuz. Iranian state media IRIB later released dramatic footage showing remnants of the destroyed drone's wreckage. The wreckage of the eliminated drone could reportedly be seen washed ashore after being brought down by Iranian forces. This comes shortly after Iran-backed Houthis claimed they shot down a US MQ-9 Reaper drone over Yemen's Marib.
An American military drone was reportedly shot down over Yemen's Marib Governorate, with regional media saying the incident occurred on May 29th during ongoing tensions in the area. Viral footage broadcast by Iran's Press TV appeared to show the exact moment the US drone was intercepted in the skies, capturing its hit and subsequent fall.
Additional clips circulating on social media showed what was described as the drone's debris scattered across the ground with wreckage pieces filmed up close from multiple angles. The downing over Yemen comes just days after Iran's Revolutionary Guard claimed it had shot down a US MQ-9 Reaper drone over the Gulf region underscoring a rising pattern of American drones being targeted around the Middle East.
The IRGC also asserted it opened fire on an F-35 jet and an RQ-4 surveillance drone that it says entered Iranian airspace casting the incident as a violation of its sovereignty. According to Tehran's account, firing of the F-35 forced the stealth fighter to pull back, a narrative Iran is using to project strength against US air power. Iranian guards warned they reserve the right to respond to any US ceasefire violations setting the stage for more confrontation if Washington pushes the limits.
On May 30th, Iran also claimed that a US aircraft had been shot down in Bushehr province. However, CENTCOM denied Iran's claims that any US aircraft was destroyed near Bushehr.
Fresh Gulf tensions erupted after Iran claimed it shot down a trespassing American drone near the Bushehr region.
Iranian media said the drone was intercepted near the southern province that hosts Iran's sensitive nuclear infrastructure.
Tasnim News Agency cited military sources [music] claiming Iran targeted the American drone with a missile strike on May 29th.
Fars News Agency reported Iran's integrated air defense network immediately confronted the aircraft after detecting the alleged intrusion.
Officials said the operation involved air defense system stationed near Jam and Kangan inside Bushehr province.
Iranian media reports claimed search operations later began to locate debris from the reportedly downed American aircraft.
However, the US military strongly denied Iranian claims that any American aircraft had been shot down near Bushehr.
US Central Command stated all American air assets were fully accounted for following what it called false Iranian reports.
The Bushehr region had previously faced attacks during earlier US-Israeli operations targeting Iranian military and nuclear-linked infrastructure.
Notably, Iran's Bushehr nuclear power plant is jointly linked to Russian and Iranian nuclear cooperation projects.
