2026 Atlantic Hurricane Season Outlook

[00:00:00]NOAA released its 2026 hurricane season outlook today, Thursday, May 21st, and they are predicting a slightly below normal Atlantic hurricane season. But what is normal? Well, normal hurricane season in the Atlantic produces 14 named storms, seven of which are hurricanes, and three of which become major hurricanes. That's category 3 or higher.

[00:00:25]With El Niño conditions taking place, that can produce higher shear, which prevents storms from forming, kind of shears them out. So, that's a big reason why they are predicting a below normal hurricane season. Of course, we always say all it takes is one storm to hit your location to impact you. The names are rotated every 6 years, and as we know, if one storm becomes very impactful, catastrophic, uh they do retire that name and replace it with another one.
