The "luxury buttercup" scandal perfectly illustrates the growing disconnect between a jet-set technocracy and a public struggling with inflation. It is a textbook example of how elitist optics can undermine the credibility of government spending and high-level diplomacy.

Carney criticized for nearly $200K spent on in-flight meals including "luxury Normandy buttercups"Hinzugefügt:
Canadians rebuild $195,000 for inflight catering by the prime minister for three trips. Scottish salmon fillet, sautayed beef with world famous creamy sauce and foreign dessert, luxury Normandy buttercups. Every dollar this prime minister spent on his elite pallet was first taken from a hardworking Canadian. This prime minister means more cost, more taxes, more debt, and more on the national credit card. Will he cut out his fine dining and reign in his inflationary spending so Canadians can afford to eat?
>> When the prime minister travels, do you know what happens? He brings back jobs.
He brings back investment. He brings back opportunity for indigenous people to participate with equity in projects.
He brings back technology. He brings back expertise. He brings back military and industrial benefits to Canada. The prime minister travels. Oh yes he does.
And you know what he does? He brings back jobs and investment and energy to Canada.
>> So the member saying that $195,000 for steak and fine wine is necessary for the prime minister to do his job.
Shameful. In April alone, Canada and Canadians saw gas rise 28%, food rise 3%, hydro rise 20%. AT A TIME like this, Canadians expect fiscal restraint because for them food and shelter is more than 125% of their income. SO IF THE PRIME minister really wants luxury Normandy buttercups, can he just put it ON HIS OWN CREDIT CARD INSTEAD of the backs of Canadians?
You can be proud of having a prime minister not only that is traveling across the world to bring back investment but also that he's working in a very difficult environment across the world as the international growth order is shifting. That is what Canadians expect that we are able to create jobs across this country. We've been able to create more than 70,000 jobs since the last fall and will continue to do so.
