The documentary 'By Dawn's Early Light' exemplifies how Christian nationalist movements construct narratives of persecution to advance political agendas, using selective examples like isolated incidents (such as museum guards' comments) to claim systemic government oppression against Christians, despite evidence that Christians dominate American political institutions and that such claims lack substantive evidence of actual persecution.

Christians Run the Government. Now They Made a Movie Claiming Persecution.Added:
A couple of weeks ago, I did a whole segment on the White House's task force to eradicate anti-Christian bias. Uh because they released their final report summarizing all the ways Christians are supposedly being persecuted in America.
And when I made a video about it, what I said is even if you read the reports, all the examples they offer of Christians being persecuted in America, if you do a deep dive into those stories, you realize they're not being persecuted because they're Christian.
they happen to be Christians who may have broken the law or uh there was an investigation and it turned out some of the people targeted in the investigation happened to be religious but there's no evidence of governmentwide uh oppression against people who are Christian. That's ridiculous. We knew that before this task force met. But of course this task force consisted of religious uh right zealots. So, of course, that's the conclusion they were going to get to. Um, and we talked about that how that whole report was a sham.
And by the way, next month, I think they're going to issue a report on what policy suggestions they have for Congress and the president based on their final report. So, those policy recommendations are going to be garbage, too. But in case you didn't read the report, which no one did, don't worry because Christian nationalists have already made a documentary based on the report's findings. They made a movie promoting the idea that Christians are being persecuted in America. I [ __ ] you not.
It's called By Dawn's Early Light.
This is a very real movie. Look at that tagline at the top. Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction, which is a great quote, but it has nothing to do with Christianity in America. So, what is going on with this movie? This is a movie that tries to link up the founding of our country to the fictional attacks on Christianity today. It's a movie promoting the idea that we were founded as a Christian nation. So all of these attacks on Christianity that are made up are somehow an attack on America itself.
And I want to show you the website because look at how they describe this.
There's there's a whole website for this movie.
Oh yeah, look at this. Look at this. By Dawn's Early Light. You could view the trailer online, but look at the description here. On February 6, 2025, Donald J. Trump signed Executive Order something something establishing a federal task force to identify and address anti-Christian bias within government agencies. by Dawn's Early Light examines the origins, findings, and actions of this task force to eradicate anti-Christian bias, presenting its work as a modern effort to confront perceived threats to religious liberty through interviews, historical context, and investigative storytelling. They're they're not going to have investigative anything. This film The film explores both the challenges identified and the measures proposed to strengthen protections, framing the effort as part of an ongoing pursuit to ensure that the freedoms fought for in earlier generations endure into the future. Then they have a cast list. Oh my god, who's going to play everyone involved? Let's find out. Let's find out who's in the movie. Oh my god, it's the actual people who don't have anything to act do in the government. I mean, it's not like Cash Patel's doing anything. So, of course, he made time to sit for the movie. Pam Bondi did it before she was fired. What else? We got acting attorney general Todd Blanch.
He's He's not only Trump's personal attorney and the nation's top prosecutor, he also made time to talk about Dawn's early light. We got Marco Rubio. We got Heg Seth. You know, he loves movies. It's why he reads from the Pulp Fiction screenplay.
Seriously, there isn't a cabinet member who is not in this movie. It's every They got the wrestling lady.
We got Mark Wayne. He doesn't even know what his job is, but he's in this movie.
Who else we got? Oh, we got a conspiracy theorist. Metaxis is in there. And then you just have right-wing crackpots who work for those legal groups. And my favorite on the far left there, Sam Sorbo, because when Kevin Sorbo is too expensive for you to hire, you get his wife.
That's who appears in this movie. It's just a who's who of what the [ __ ] is going on here. So, I it is funny to me Sam Sorbbo is in this because Kevin Sorbo's most famous movie appearance is being the professor in God's Not Dead. And I think if I think this whole movie is almost like a parody of God's Not Dead, which is already a parody because I mean that movie was famous for exaggerating something that never happened in a college classroom, right?
A professor openly mocks a Christian student for his beliefs until, spoiler, the professor eventually embraces Jesus.
This film takes real life situations and pretends they're real, too. It's the same basic idea. They can't make a movie off of anything real cuz none of this [ __ ] ever happens. And now they are trying to pretend that this [ __ ] happens. That's what the anti-Christian bias task force was all about. But again, I've gone over those stories with you. They're not real either. I want to show you this, too. The right-wing group, the ACLJ, uh, they wrote a press release about this movie, and they said one of our legal groups stories is featured in this movie. Check this out.
One of the featured stories in the film centers on the ACLJ's landmark federal lawsuits against the Smithsonian Institution after Catholic students attending the March for Life were told they could not enter the National Air and Space Museum while wearing Rosary pro-life hats. Security officers mocked the students, spewed profanity at minors, and informed them that the First Amendment does not apply here.
They also say, "We took this to court.
The result was one of the largest publicly reported settlements against the federal government in a First Amendment case."
Let's pretend for a second all of that is true. That means at worst, the example of Christian persecution that is featured in this movie apparently involves a couple of security guards who did not understand that people are allowed to wear clothing that expresses a political position, even if they're going to a Smithsonian museum. And by the way, when the Smithsonian settled that lawsuit, I looked this up, they specifically said, "We admit no fault."
And they said, "The only reason we're settling this is quote avoiding the expenses and risks of further litigation."
The Smithsonian settled because, uh, we don't want to fight this. Just take your money and shut up. Which which is fine and that happens a lot. But this is not like the federal government admitting there was systemic bias against Christians. This is okay. A couple of our guards may have done something they shouldn't have done and you're like that's it. And then these people got the settlement they wanted. Okay, that is not systemic bias. You want to hear what they do to black people in this country?
Let me tell you about gerrymandering.
Let me tell you about the decimation of the Voting Rights Act. Let me tell you what they do to LGBTQ people in this country.
There is systemic oppression against certain groups. Christians are not one of them.
But that's the sort of anti-Christian bias that is apparently strong enough to not just appear in the film, but be a lengthy segment in the film. That's like if Jeff Bezos whined about how there's anti-billionaire discrimination in the world because someone made fun of his dumb yacht.
Like, no, they're just making fun of your stupid yacht. It doesn't mean they're discriminating against you. If there were serious examples of anti-Christian bias by the government, I agree. We should take care of that because that shouldn't happen either.
Unfortunately, it doesn't exist and it wasn't mentioned in this document because this task force couldn't find any examples of it. There are this is not a real problem in our society.
That's the reason when we talk about victories in court by conservative Christians. It's always about the dumbest [ __ ] It's always about I'm a baker and I didn't want to sell a cake to a gay couple for their wedding or I'm a Christian website designer and I wanted to sue Colorado or something because what if a gay couple wants me to make a website for them? That's what Christian oppression looks like. No one even asked you for this stuff. Or or in the case of the baker, they just wanted to give you money for the thing you already make. That's what Christian oppression looks like. Or you're a high school football coach and you're like, I I can't possibly pray unless it is at the center of the football field in front of all the cameras after a game.
That's what oppression looks like. If you you want me to pray in private, how dare you, sir.
That's what Christian oppression looks like. Imagine watching a documentary about how hard it is to be like a white guy in America and you will get a sense of what this movie is going to be like.
There are people who are systemically, repeatedly, and currently being persecuted by our government. They're not the white guys. They are not conservative Christians. But, you know, some Catholic students were told by a couple of cops, "Hey, don't wear that."
That's the worst that they had to deal with. And again, because Trump's cabinet has nothing substantive to do, all of them pretty much sit down for interviews in this movie. So, this movie was screened at the uh Trump Kennedy Center, that stupid thing. This movie was screened there earlier this month. You could see Facebook posts all about it.
Date night attending the premiere of By Dawn's Early Light.
Um, I guess if I go through here, they had they had an audience. There were people there. Some Okay. Like, good for you.
But in any case, this movie is going to be released on the website on May 31st.
Um, in case anyone hates themsself enough to want to watch this. Did I sign up on the mailing list because I want to watch this? Oh, you better believe I did because I among those who hate myself.
Look, Christians in America are not going to jail because of their beliefs.
They are not banned from seeking federal office, public office of any kind. They dominate Congress and the Supreme Court and state legislatures and local governments and virtually every major institution of political power.
Christians have it so damn good that Donald Trump literally created a federal task force devoted exclusively to protecting the Christian majority from the tyranny of not getting every single thing they ever want.
And yet these people want audiences to believe that Christians need to huddle together as part of like an underground resistance movement because a couple of museum guards made rude comments this one time.
But there is a reason movies like this keep getting made. And it's not because Christians are persecuted. It's because Christian nationalism relies on this permanent state of victimhood.
Right? If you can convince really dumb people that they're always under attack, that makes it a lot easier to dominate public life. Like taking over school boards is what is easy to do when you convince really gullible Christians that they're the saviors. They're going to protect children from scary things like books and knowledge.
and posting the Ten Commandments is in public schools is something you got to do because uh how else are kids going to be reminded of our nation's history? If you can convince dumb people that that's what you're doing, you can shove your religion in people's faces. They're going to always pretend Christians are the victims of persecution until they have gotten rid of church state separation entirely.
And it's only when you explore any of these stories that you realize they're full of [ __ ] They held the film's premiere at the Kennedy Center. How oppressed are you that you can do that?
They That alone should prove there's there's no basis for this film. But I guess it's I mean, you know what? More Americans are rejecting the idea that Christianity deserves special treatment from the government. People are pushing back against this administration. They are seeing what religious conservatism does when you allow it to run rampant.
So, I don't I don't imagine this movie will get anywhere. I don't imagine it'll have much of an effect, but I just want you to understand the strategy behind why they're doing [ __ ] like this.
I will stop there for now. I'll do a quick look to see if there are any other questions here. This is uh I'm not a Christian. I'm not atheist. Whatever my belief is, it stays right where it belongs. Between my eyes, behind my eyeballs. If only everyone who was religious felt the same way, that would be lovely.
Anything else here?
How many people in Congress are Christian? How many people in Congress claim to be Christian? I mean it is I believe the numbers in Congress are like 89% of Congress are use a Christian label and 98% of Republicans in Congress have a Christian label. But again, it depends on how you want to define Christianity.
These are all self-reported religious labels. And I know conservative Christians will say certain progressive Christians aren't true Christians. But uh if you claim to be Christian, I'm going to take you at your word and we'll judge you based on what you do with that information. That's why again I said this earlier, I'm not bothered by progressive Christians in government as long as they respect separation of church and state and everything that comes with it.
