The Pharisees and Sadducees in ancient Judaism represented opposing political ideologies that mirror modern political parties: the Pharisees opposed foreign influence and emphasized moral law, while the Sadducees, as wealthy elites who controlled the temple and Sanhedrin, were more accepting of foreign influence and less focused on moral strictures; historical evidence shows that of the 20-25 high priests serving between 20 BC and 70 AD, the overwhelming majority were political appointments rather than religious selections, demonstrating how religious leadership in ancient times was deeply intertwined with political power structures.

Why Do Ancient Religious Politics Mirror Today's Parties?Added:
And so, when Jesus is like, "No, no, no, I'm I'm going to go over to the Syrophoenician area. I'm going to go to the Decapolis and I'm going to embrace Gentiles and I'm going to love foreigners." They're like, "That's the problem. Get out of there. Like, we don't want Jesus preaching this message here." And so, that's the idea. They saw the payment of taxes to continue supporting Yeah, not shock the hell >> all this machine is terrible. And I mean, you could really it's a stretch, but you can take the Pharisees and plant them in a modern-day political party. I mean, you think about it, they're they're opposed to foreign influence, they want moral law, they hate foreign influence. I mean, you you kind of walk through and you're like, "Oh, okay, I see which political party you would tie yourselves to." Where the Sadducees are going to be the exact opposite, right?
It's like, "Yeah, well, you know, we're not going to hold too firmly to this and it's wealthy elites and elitism and you know, they're they're fine with foreign influence and they're they're not all that bent out of shape about the moral stuff. Like, you can see how these things play out. I mean, the more things change, the more they stay the same. And the Sadducees stood in direct opposition to the Pharisees. They controlled the temple, pretty well controlled the Sanhedrin. They were the wealthy elites, they weren't chosen by people. So, here's where I wrote down some numbers.
Of the 20 to 25 high priests who served between 20 BC and 70 AD, when when Jerusalem is destroyed by the Romans, the overwhelming majority of them were political appointments.
>> That's crazy.
>> I didn't know that before studying this.
