Florida summer weather is characterized by extreme heat and humidity, with heat index values reaching 108-111°F when temperatures are in the mid-90s and dew points are in the 70s-80s. Severe thunderstorms typically develop in the evening hours (6-10 PM) along the I-4 corridor and coastal areas, producing vivid lightning, gusty winds, and small hail. The combination of high temperatures and high humidity creates dangerous conditions, with the heat index being a critical measurement for assessing heat-related risks.

LIVE: Weather Plus
Added:Hey everybody, meteorologist No Bergen here. It is just after 3:30 on a Thursday afternoon, the 18th of June, 2026.
We've got a lot to discuss tonight in the weather department. In fact, it's going to be a pretty busy evening of weather here in the Orlando area. So, we're going to track that over the next couple of days and go through any questions that you have. I'll be with you here till 3:58.
We'll take a quick 2-minute break coming up at 3:43. So, 43 past the hour, we'll take a little 2-minute break and then we'll resume and we will get back on at 3:45.
So, here are the headlines in our weather stream today. What we're going to track. First, the heat. We're talking about heat index 108 plus across many parts of Central Florida.
I'm going to go over with you when the heat is going to taper down some. We will see a little bit of a break in the heat heading into the weekend. And the third thing is going to be tracking severe storms today and then again on Friday. We will likely have two opportunities for some severe storms.
We've already seen that and we're going to see some more. Now, as you probably saw on Fox local a couple of minutes ago, we did have meteorologist Laura Blanchard on tracking storms and right now we already have one severe storm. It is right here up in Marion County and it is tracking to the north. But today, we're going to have a big coverage of storms. So, here's what we're going to track right now is the is the storms first, then the heat and then we're going to hit up the tropics. But I'm going to give you a little lay of the land of today. So, first things first, we've got this one storm here and that's moving up towards Jacksonville over the next hour or so.
For the rest of us, storms today are going to be mostly in this area.
This is where they're going to be.
Most I'll label this for you. Most See if I can draw better.
Most storms.
Uh and it's 4:00 to 9:00 p.m.
Uh and those places are going to be Orlando, uh the I-4 corridor, Daytona, Titusville, the theme parks, and Osceola County. So, I understand we do have that one severe storm uh to the northwest, but it's this area here where most of the storms are going to be for the evening commute. Uh and that does include the heavily populated I-4 corridor for this evening. So, let me know where you're watching from. If you have a question, comment, or concern, we'll track storms now. I'll head up the regional radar. We'll take a break, then we'll do uh the tropics. We'll also sprinkle in the heat there as well.
Uh normal Florida summer weather, says Loomis. Yes, that is correct. Um Hello, Benjamin. How are you? Tornado watch in Massachusetts. Yes, there is a tornado watch up in the northeast today.
So, I'm going to give you a quick update on this um severe thunder storm. Uh you see this here. Uh it is tracking through rural Marion County. Doesn't really have any rotation with it, so this is mostly a hail producer. You can see there's a little bit of hail.
These are pretty rural areas. It's not going to be, you know, anything super big, but put a track on it for you here.
Probably something about like that. Uh so, you can see these are pretty rural areas where this this thing is going.
Um and see, I'll even zoom in. There's not a lot of places. So, northeast Highway 315 uh up towards Lake Ocklawaha.
Uh then eventually the Palatka area.
We'll keep an eye on that um severe storm. But, for the rest of the area, things are pretty clear right now.
However, these are the storms here that are going to fill in across Orlando as we head through the evening. So, before we go to the regional radar, let me zoom you uh into the temperatures and we'll talk about the heat because we do have eventually a drop in the heat on the way. It is 97° right now in Orlando. Let me let me emphasize this.
Look right here. It is 97.
Wow.
That is that is hot. You can see that temperature there. 97 is the hottest in the state in Orlando right now. So, the question about when the heat's going to break this weekend. We'll get a drop in the humidity this weekend. The last 2 days we have been 97 plus. Tomorrow we're going to be 97 plus again. We might even get close to 98. Here's the temperatures out there right now.
97 in Bithlo, 97 in Orlando, 96 in Clermont. Now, even the beaches are hot because we have a southwest wind. When the winds are from the southwest, that's when we get the beaches to be almost just as hot as inland areas, but only when that happens. Now, why does it feel so bad out? Well, it's because of the humidity and I want to show you the dew points right now. Um yeah, this is crazy.
Look at Cocoa Beach. Look right there.
You see the temp the dew point there?
It's 82.
That is like off the chart humidity. Um everywhere else it's in the mid to upper 70s. So, that dew point guide um here it is. You saw in Cocoa Beach is 82. We actually don't even have a color legend for 80s dew points. Anything above 75 is tropical. Anything 80 plus is like gross. And it doesn't actually get much more humid than that in Florida. You'd have to go down to like Cancun or Aruba to get higher dew points than that. So, you factor in these temperatures, 97 Orlando, 94 Daytona Beach, with these dew points, including the staggering 80 or so one in Cocoa Beach, and here is the live heat index.
And I get ready for this. This is a big number. I'll put this full screen so you can see.
It is 111 in Bushnell, 110 in Palm Coast, 100 in Winter Haven, 106 in Orlando, 108 in Titusville, 106 in New Smyrna, and 99 in St. Cloud.
And we're going to do the same exact thing tomorrow. In fact, I don't really think there's much change in the heat for tomorrow. In fact, it might even be a hair more humid tomorrow than it is today. Here's the heat index over the next couple of days in Orlando. We'll get a little bit of a drop by Monday and Tuesday. It looked like the humidity would come down a little bit more Sunday.
It will in some places, but really it's going to have to be until early next week now to really get a big drop in the humidity. So, the storm team alert for the heat does continue as we go through Friday. And the reasons why is because the heat index up to 111 or so, 112 in a few places. Air temperatures in the mid to upper 90s over the next couple of days. So, when does the heat come down? Later this weekend. And the humidity definitely comes down a bit by Sunday, I think. Especially though early next week temperatures will come down as well.
All right, so again on your stream today, here's what we're tracking.
Just to give you a little lay of the land. The heat, the storms, and some less hot I don't call it cooler weather heading into next week. All right, so let me give you an update on the um storms for today.
Now, I do want to zoom you out quick.
Let me know if you have a question. I do want to zoom you out quick cuz we have some really nasty weather ongoing. And I talked about this last night on the late news. And I'll be real with you cuz we have a little more length of time here on this weather stream.
I was sitting looking in the office last night and I was going um there's no way this is actually going to happen, right? That's what I was saying to myself behind the scenes uh before the late news cuz I kind of went above some of the computer models.
We had our Fox model show like 20 in of rain today in parts of these areas and it's actually happening. Like I'm actually like impressed sho- surprised, shocked that it's actually happening.
What I'm referring to is we have several flash flood emergencies uh that are ongoing in these areas. In fact, you see these blue polygons uh these blue teal ones right here that right there and then this right here, those are flash flood emergencies.
Uh the highest flood alert the weather service can issue in the United States um and it has been a wild wild morning and a wild day.
Now, this is the Arthur remnants.
All of this is Arthur.
Now, where is this heading next? Not for us. It's going to go the the center of it's here. It's going to go like that to our north. So, it's not going to hit us.
It's being Arthur's remnants um but it will help to increase the humidity even more tomorrow because out ahead of it we're going to get more of this southwest wind pushing the air from Cancun into Florida and that'll push up the humidity even more tomorrow. So, it's not going to directly hit us, it being Arthur's remnants, but it is going to impact our weather because for us it'll make it even more humid. Uh now, here is the loop of the radar over the last 12 hours. You can see we had confirmed tornadoes this morning. Let me let me hand scrub this back. So, here was this morning.
Notice these polygons right here. This is 5:00 in the morning. These were confirmed tornadoes uh in Louisiana.
Then you had tornado warnings this morning flash flood warnings all afternoon.
And then now here we are. It is so it has been a wild day and all of this is Arthur's remnants.
And on the you can see it on the colorized satellite.
Just let me turn off the alerts cuz there's so many of them. Yes, this is a 12-hour loop and you can see all of that's still going. And there's low pressure in here about right there.
So all of this is Arthur's remnants that kind of went like this and then now it's going to skirt up like that over the next couple of days.
But for us, we will miss the rain, but we will get more humidity because of that tomorrow. So back to the radar then I want to talk about tonight's storm. So out there right now we only have this one severe storm in rural northern Marion County. Otherwise, it's mostly dry. So right now it's dry in the I-4 corridor. A couple of showers are building here west of Orlando.
Um But what we're going to track this evening is a big coverage of storms. Let me Let me pull this up here full screen so I can show you here.
Let me take myself full so you can see.
Hello, hello, hello. Hope you've had a great day so far. So let me pull up the future cast here and I'll dial it in perfect for us. So we're going to take a quick break at 43 past the hour on Fox Local. I will keep going on our weather plus stream here.
On YouTube and Facebook and we will keep trucking for you, but we've got much more to talk about with storms tonight and then the heat and that weather storm team alert we've issued does continue and will continue for the next little while.
Okay, so we're actually not on Fox Local.
Um >> So, let's talk about the future cast.
So, we're on Facebook and YouTube. So, because we're not I I will keep going. I thought we were we're going to take a quick 2-minute break. So, we're not. So, I will keep going with you here on YouTube and Facebook. So, we're actually just on YouTube and Facebook.
Um right now.
So, let me pull up the future radar here. So, here we go.
Let me get it back queued up here full screen.
So, here is the future cast for the rest of the day. And notice as we go through the evening, we should see these big storms pop up between about, let's say, 6:00 and 8:00.
And they will be mostly on the I-4 corridor and towards Brevard County, in these areas uh for storms.
Uh and some of them will be strong to severe. We've already seen that. Uh and I think we'll see more of that um through the evening. So, heads up in the Seminole County area, that would be about 8:00.
You can see a storm there. Over here in Osceola County, a storm here. Uh so, it really just depends on where you are. Um but I think a lot of the areas in the I-4 corridor towards the beaches, you guys will see big storms later this evening. Uh so, we're going to track that uh tonight. So, there's 8:00.
Here's 8:30. Here's 9:00.
Still storming by 10:00, 11:00, and then it's done by midnight. So, you can see here uh by about So, you can see here we've got these storms east of Orlando that go through 10 11:00 this evening.
So let me pull up some of your questions. Let me know what you are seeing in your town. Sorry, I was just checking with one of my producers here about what we're doing. So let me pull up the comments.
What about DeBary, Sandy?
Sandy says What about DeBary? DeBary probably looking at um storms I'd say about 7:00 8:00.
Alice, hello. How are you?
How's Daytona look? Anything coming our way, Janine?
Um Janine, I would say probably about like 8:00 or so tonight you'll get a storm.
East Orlando, Elaine, probably like um probably like um 8:00-ish. 7:00-8:00-ish.
Hi Alice, how are you? Hello Nicole. Hi Mike. Hi Deborah. How are you? Good to see you.
Hello Alice. Hi Benjamin. Hello Loomis, Bert B.
Hello Deborah Clinton.
Hello Floyd Johnson. Um Ahmed, hello Benjamin and Reggio on YouTube. Hello hello hello. Hope everybody is doing good today.
All right. So there's the storms for today. Let me pull up that's our high res model. Let me pull up our Fox model.
Pull up our Fox model and I'll show you.
I think this has a little bit better handle on the storms. You can see here by 6:30 7:00 8:00 we've got widespread storms that are around here. Like really widespread storms and a couple of them could produce damaging winds or large hail. I remember any storms in summer here can produce vivid lightning, gusty winds, and small hail.
That being said, like we've already seen in Marion County, one or two of these storms may produce some damaging winds or large hail.
And that will be the case as we head through the evening hours tonight.
Okay, so there's 8:00. We'll watch those storms coming on in.
Here's 8:30.
Here's 9:30.
Here's 10:30.
Here's 11:00 is done. Now, tomorrow what we're going to look at is a dry morning.
Afternoon will bubble up storms when we get this further out. Sorry, this is on 24 hours.
So, by 6:00 or so, we've got big storms popping up.
And those storms will produce a lot of rain and storms Friday. And we'll kind of do this again for Saturday, believe it or not. Here's Saturday.
Lots of PM storms. In fact, you can see here there's a there's a healthy coverage of storms around Saturday afternoon and evening.
And these storms are going to move like this.
Off to the southeast.
So, we will keep tabs with that for the weekend. And those storms could produce again vivid lightning, gusty winds, small hail, things like that heading into the weekend. So, yeah, it is definitely hot out, in fact um the temperatures today are really toasty.
Really, really toasty. Uh you can see here the temperatures right now, 99 in Clermont. Wow, is it hot? In fact, I'm going to a clip this right now.
And I'm going to save this so we can share it. Uh let me know what questions you have about the weather, what you're seeing uh about the weekend, anything else.
Um yes, now in fact I I I don't even really see anything severe here in here right now.
Uh I'm actually kind of surprised we're keeping this warning here.
Candidly, yeah, there's really not much not much in here. In fact, the hail is not even severe right now. It's pea-sized at best. So, this warning should be dropped. Um I I really don't see much more in that for right now, but definitely we will see more uh severe storms here heading through the evening. So, be cool, stay safe tonight. Uh I'm going to go get ready for the news at 4:00, 5:00, and 6:00. I will see you a little bit later, but of course, as always, we'll have coverage for you here on Fox Local, YouTube, and Facebook um anytime there's weather threatening or any storm. So, have a great rest of your day.
And I will see you coming up tonight at 4:00, 5:00, and 6:00. Have a great rest of your day.
