This Immortal: Roger Zelazny's 1960s Sci Fi Masterpiece

[00:00:00]But, we're here to talk about Roger Zelazny's first award, This Immortal, which tied with Frank Herbert's Dune for the 1966 Hugos. There's also this melancholy kind of dying Earth vibe throughout the book, cuz there aren't many living spaces left on Earth, and humans seem to be a dying breed, except out in the stars, where they are viewed as second-class citizens. It's not a very glorious future outlook for humanity. Now, modern readers may see a bit of sexism in the form of objectifying women, which is fair enough. This is 1966, but overall, for me, I am really glad I chose this book to read. I personally don't think it was on par with Frank Herbert's Dune, which is one of my favorites, but I can see why it was a co-winner or tied for the 1966 Hugos.
