I’m 62 and Still Working- Here’s Why That’s My Choice!

[00:00:05]That's not it, and the real reason surprised even me.

[00:00:10]I'm Chris. I'm 62, and I did have the option to step away, and I chose not to.

[00:00:17]And it took me a while to get super honest with myself and to figure out why. Because when people ask, they assume that the that it's for the money. And that is easy answer. And yes, income does matter, of course. But I'm not going to pretend that it's not.

[00:00:35]But that's not why I get up every morning. Here's what I figured out. I enjoy the structure of work. It connects me doing something outside of myself.

[00:00:45]And there's always a problem that needs solving, but I've gotten to a point in my life or career, whatever you want to call it, where I still feel like I have something to contribute, that I have something to give.

[00:00:59]And without that, even with enough money, I can start to drift. I felt it.

[00:01:06]You know, when things are quiet and there's a lot of time to fill, I feel restless, and that there's nobody or nothing that actually needs me. And nobody really talks about that part.

[00:01:17]Need the needing to be needed, right?

[00:01:20]And work on my own terms, on my own pace, gives me that. And I can choose the people I want to work with, and the people that I want to help, and they can also work with me.
