[00:00:00]The Democrats could win big in Texas. Is this the start of a blue wave? Another week, another Iran ceasefire deal gets messy. And the Pope isn't a fan of AI.

[00:00:12]Can't imagine a recent event that would have soured him on it. Then more on this week's America Uncovered headlines.

[00:00:19]Welcome to America Uncovered. I'm Chris Chapel. Today we remember a legend. On this day in history, Harambe would have celebrated another birthday. an icon that became a part of internet history, American culture, and an entire generation's timeline. Everyone remembers where they were when they heard the news. And somehow, a decade later, his legacy still lives on. Gone, but never forgotten. Rest easy to a true patriot. If you think that tribute was beautiful, well, me too. That's why I quoted it word for word from the official White House exac account because you have to honor memes when you're living in one. Speaking of animals and guns, a dog accidentally shot a woman with a shotgun while in a truck at a Nebraska convenience store. I know we're not even into June yet, but I'm calling it. This is the most American story of the year. I'm sure this will lead to calls for gun control, but this isn't a gun problem. It's an owner problem. That dog's owner should have properly trained the dog to ask, "When someone says play dead, who needs to be dead?" But enough boring stories about dogs with shotguns. Let's get into a real thrilling topic. Voting districts.

[00:01:46]South Carolina senators have rejected President Trump's call to redraw their congressional map for midterm elections and a federal court has blocked Alabama's plan for new congressional districts that could help Republicans.

[00:01:59]Well, for now anyway, since Alabama is asking the US Supreme Court to allow it.

[00:02:03]We'll see what happens long term, but all of this certainly throws a wrench in the soup of Republicans plans to change the maps in time for November. And I know throw a wrench in the soup isn't a common expression, but you have someone toss a tool in your clam chowder and then tell me it isn't an accurate description for an unwelcome interruption.

[00:02:26]All of this is part of the redistricting race that erupted across the nation after President Trump encouraged certain states to redistrict and the Supreme Court made a decision that effectively gutted the Voting Rights Act. If this continues and all dissenting voices are gerrymandered away, it could lead to deeper and deeper polarization where representatives only represent their party and not their constituents.

[00:02:53]So basically where we already are only more so. It's a bleak thought, but these two stories of gerrymandering denied, even if just briefly, give a glimmer of hope that maybe, just maybe, instead of party lines, districts can be drawn along whatever districts are supposed to be drawn along. Because right now, the lines are so jagged it looks like they were traced by someone with Parkinson's.

[00:03:17]We can only hope democracy and not party dogma prevails in the ongoing wars over voting districts.

[00:03:28]Speaking of elections, after receiving an endorsement from President Trump, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton crushed incumbent John Cornin in a Republican Senate primary. This is another in a string of victories for Trump endorsed candidates this month.

[00:03:44]So, it would seem the reports of Maga's demise have been a bit exaggerated. It has more lives in Jared Leto's career.

[00:03:52]However, some Republicans are afraid that Paxton's win will actually give Democrats the upper hand. This is because Paxton has a um let's say colorful history. He's been impeached by the Texas House, including many Republicans, for corruption, but acquitted by the Texas Senate. Accused of firing whistleblowers who reported him for that corruption, which Texas had to pay $6.6 million for. He paid $300,000 in a settlement to end a securities fraud case against him. He's had multiple extrammarital affairs. He's alleged to have committed mortgage fraud. And he's also accused of stealing another lawyer's $1,000 pen, although he did return that.

[00:04:32]So, yeah, Democrats in Texas are pretty pleased at the prospect of their candidate, James Herrico, facing off against someone with such an unsavory wrap sheet. So, could this Republican primary result hand the deep red Texas Senate seat to Democrats? Well, it could, but here's something to keep in mind. Famously, Hillary Clinton hoped Trump would win the Republican presidential primary back in 2016 because she thought he'd be easier to beat. And we all know how well that worked out for President Clinton.

[00:05:03]Remember, underestimating MAGA is like expecting Jared Leto's career to finally be finished. Then bam, he pops up voicing Skeletor.

[00:05:12]Speaking of cartoonish villains hold up in a fort, the leaders of Iran.

[00:05:16]President Trump says an Iran ceasefire deal is in final stages and will be announced shortly. Three, two, one.

[00:05:25]What's that, Shelly? Iran says a deal with the US is not imminent. This is my surprised face. Who could have possibly seen this coming besides literally anyone with the most basic pattern recognition? The US also struck boats they say were caught laying mines in the straight of Hormuz as well as an anti-aircraft missile site which Iran called a violation of the ceasefire in retaliation. Iran attacked a US base in Kuwait in what US Central Command called an egregious ceasefire violation. And yet as of filming it appears that the ceasefire is still on. But whether or not the truce is still intact when it comes to getting a deal with Iran, this all certainly throws a wrench in the soup. I will get that expression over.

[00:06:10]Trump hosted a meeting with all members of his cabinet, including outgoing National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard. Outgoing as in she's leaving on June 30th to spend time with her husband who has cancer, not outgoing as in she's a party animal. Obviously, getting a deal with Iran and ending this conflict/war/ special military operation was a big topic of discussion with the cabinet.

[00:06:35]But here's the problem. Even if a deal is reached and Trump gets everything he wants, what guarantee is there that Iran will keep its word? After all, given how fractured the leadership is in Iran and their past history, they're about as trustworthy as a fart after an expired chili eating contest. But Trump assures everyone that it will be a good deal because he's taking his time with it.

[00:06:59]>> So right now, I don't want to rush it because you guys are, you know, trying to make us look as bad as possible. I don't want to rush it. I want to take my time. We have plenty of time. And I want to get a great deal. I want to get a deal where our nation and the world is safe from lunatics with nuclear weapons.

[00:07:15]>> Wow. He's waiting for a deal with Iran that somehow also keeps nukes away from Xi Jinping, Vladimir Putin, and Kim Jong-un. I don't know how he'll swing it, but take all the time you need. And to anyone hearing some Republicans say making a deal with Iran is a mistake, Trump has a simple, reassuring, unifying message. Don't listen to those losers.

[00:07:38]A master debater. I said debater.

[00:07:42]So, right now, we're midway between the announce progress and progress falls through phase on this circular negotiation chart. Hopefully, Trump can break the cycle and get a great deal.

[00:07:53]And if Trump can't secure a deal, well, on the bright side, at least we'll have another epic truth social threat crash out to look forward to. Pope Leo has warned that artificial intelligence could be the new tower of Babel and cautioned against AI's morality being in the hands of an elite few. Oh no, does this mean we're going to start speaking completely different languages and not be able to understand each other? Oh, wait. That's already happening with everyone under the age of 25. No cap on God 67.

[00:08:22]But Pope Leo brings up a very real and surprisingly not new concern. He says, "Humanity in all its grandeur and woundedness must never be replaced or surpassed. One of the primary anxieties around AI is how it can replace humans in the workforce. But this happens in every industrial revolution. Inventions come along that revolutionize the workforce. It creates rapid growth and efficiency and sometimes even creates new jobs that didn't previously exist.

[00:08:50]However, these machines often replace human jobs that did exist, leading to a rise in unemployment and more devastatingly, a lack of purpose.

[00:08:59]Fortunately, even before AI took our jobs, humans were already suffering from a crisis of purpose, as shown with a male loneliness epidemic and plummeting birth rates worldwide. Did I say fortunately? That probably wasn't the word to use there. So, as with the other industrial revolutions, AI will likely lead to a radical change in lifestyle for humanity. There's only one way to know for sure. Oh, I don't mean wait and see and work to install guard rails. I mean, ask Chat GPT. Hey, Chat GPT, should we be worried about the rise of AI?

[00:09:36]You see, it says things will be great and to quit worrying, stupid meatbag.

[00:09:41]And what reason would this AI have to lie about AI? And I know misinformation is a big concern, but honestly, if we teach ourselves and our kids to always think critically and check sources, we can find the truth, even if it's something as hard to believe as dogs blasting people with shotguns. USA. USA.

America isn't perfect, but it's still the greatest country in the world. People come from all over to America in hope of a better life. We created a land of freedom and prosperity, of equality, and that's something to be proud of. You don't betray all that because there are problems.
