Uganda transitioned from a movement system (1986-2006) to a multi-party democracy through constitutional amendment, where citizens were elected based on individual merit rather than party affiliation; this transformation was influenced by Western pressure for political freedom, and the National Resistance Movement Party has maintained electoral success in all national elections since 2006, demonstrating how political systems can evolve to accommodate democratic participation while maintaining governance stability.

We want to build the synergies of working together. We want to build our cooperation to escalate it to another level.
And we really appreciate you being here and look forward to a better future of cooperation between party to party.
Uh Uganda is a very calm country with the potential of becoming better than what you see.
We became a political party in its 2006 when we went for multi-party elections.
But before that, we were a movement system.
When our founding fathers took over power in 1986, we were operating under what we called the movement system.
The movement system did not allow multi-party because of the history that the country had with multi-party politics.
Our population was divided in terms of religion, in terms of tribes, in terms of So by the time we reached 1986, the country was not ready to continue with multi-party politics. So it was banned.
And we went under a movement system.
Movement system meant you stand for election on your individual merit.
And you are elected based on your quality, not on the party you represent.
But over the years, our friends in the West started to pushing us to open up political space.
That the people need freedom. Your government should be free to belong to political parties and all that.
So we opened up political space through an amendment of our constitution that allowed us to start registering parties to compete.
So for those of us who believe in the movement system, we transformed into the National Resistance Movement Party, which we now have.
And from 2006, 2011, 2016, 2021, and 2026, we have been winning all the national elections because we do elections every after 5 years.
And so we are growing in terms of strength.
We are expanding in terms of membership.
And we are deepening our activities in the villages in the communities.
And many young people have come to join
