Working on the solar Fox Arcade game Artwork came and problems

[00:00:00][music] Hey guys, welcome back. Um, I'm going to do a video tonight in the basement.

[00:00:10]Right now, I'm currently in the shop cleaning the shop up. I'm just about done with this uh wagon. I wanted to have it done yesterday, but I had to do a little bit extra stuff to the Porsche.

[00:00:19]So, I started a wet sand and buff this.

[00:00:21]I just haven't finished it yet. Um, I have the Porsche sitting outside because I just got done sweeping out the spray booth because it was been a disaster in there. Uh, the Porsche's getting picked up tomorrow. The guy ended up having a doctor's appointment at 4:00 this afternoon and he was like, "Hey, it would be all right if I just come get it tomorrow." I'm like, "That's fine." So, um, it's sitting outside. You guys can see what it looks like. Obviously, the windshield gasket is still out because I decided not to try to put the windows in because they are a nightmare. And I said, "Hey, you're going to have to get somebody who does these regularly." I can usually do gasketed windows. Not these ones. These ones require there's a metal seal that goes between this and this gap right here. And what it does is it holds the window together.

[00:01:04]It holds the window into the car. And it's a chrome strip that goes along here. Absolutely a nightmare to try to put in. And I'm like, you know what?

[00:01:12]I've never done that before. I'm not going to try it on this car. I just wanted to get the car out of here. So, and he wants to get it to the mechanic.

[00:01:19]So, I said, "Fine, take it. I don't care." He was all right with it. But it looks awesome outside. I'm very happy with the way it turned out. Um, still needs new tires put on it and hub caps put back on it. But as far as the paint job goes, I am done with it. Looks like I got a little wiping to do here. Some wax on there. But, um, it turned out really, really nice.

[00:01:41]Body lines look good on it. Um, everything looks nice and straight. So, I'm going to push it back into the spray booth. And these are all extra parts that came out of the car. And then I have piles of boxes in the car of extra parts because I took a ton of stuff off this car because it was a race car. It was turned into a race car and now it's going back to a factory car again. So you end up with a lot of extra parts.

[00:02:05]But um there's a little bit of paint left in that can over there. I always send the paint with the car. I don't keep it anymore because if I don't use it, I got to dispose of it. And I'm not paying to dispose of it. So, I just send it with the cars anymore because it's their fa they're it's on them to have it. And plus, they have touch-ups if they need it. Really cool color. Um, nice car. Like I said, everything looks nice and straight. I don't see any body imperfections or anything like that. Um, he should be real happy with it. Uh, spray booth is nice and swept out.

[00:02:37]Still got lights burned out in here, too. I got to fix, but uh got to get these lonely pinballs in here soon. Um, oh, I am doing a pinball pickup Saturday morning. I'm going to West Virginia.

[00:02:51]It's going to be a cannonball run. I'm leaving at 5:00 in the morning. I'm going to get there around 9:30, load it up, and literally turn around and drive back home. Um, this is a special pinball, not to me, to my girlfriend.

[00:03:07]Um, she always wanted one. I found one cheap. Um, it's not the greatest pinball, but it's more the content than anything, and that's why she wants it.

[00:03:17]So, I said, "Okay, I'll go get it." So, um, I gave him a deposit yesterday, and, uh, I just gave him a $50 deposit to make sure he holds it for me for Saturday. And I already got his address and everything. So, Saturday morning, I'm going to run out there. Hopefully, I'll be back by like 3:00 in the afternoon is it's my goal. Um, I don't know if she's coming with me or not. between you and me. Probably be quicker on my own. I won't have to stop every hour. I got to go pee. Um, you know how that goes. But anyways, um, I'm going to clean up out here a little bit more. We're going to go in the basement.

[00:03:52]I'm I uh opened up uh Solar Fox. I want to show you what's going on in there.

[00:03:56]I'm pretty sure I have that figured out.

[00:03:58]Um, which it's not anything I expected to see, but I'll show it to you. And, uh, I think it's uh, I think once I do what I'm going to do to it, I should be able to fix it. We're going to go over some artwork that came and we're going to go over a story about the artwork.

[00:04:13]Um, which kind of pissed me off today, but you know, that's just how the world works these days. People are just uh nobody's fair in this world anymore. It seems like everybody's out for themselves. But uh anyways, um if you look over there, that white car, that's getting a quick paint job on it. I got to have it done by August 3rd, which is not a big deal. That should fly. Um, it's just, uh, we're fixing some rust spots and like I told him, he lives in Pennsylvania and I told him, I said, you know, I can only do so much. And here's what I'm talking about. I can only do so much when you have a physical rust hole starting in your quarter panel. Okay?

[00:04:54]So, you see how this looks out here. It is five times worse on the inside. Okay?

[00:04:59]So, they rust from the inside out. So, I told him I'm just going to cut this out and I'm going have to fiberglass this in cuz if I try to weld on this cheap ass thin metal, it's just going to warp all the hell. He's like, "That's fine." He's like, "Do what you got to do." So, there's this spot here, a little spot here. Um, just some nicks and dings. So, I'm just going to fix the spots, shoot it white again, and he's going to take it on his way. But, like I said, it's it's a clean car. These are just rock chips. Actually, honestly, these look like BB gun marks. Like somebody was shooting a BB gun and hit the car. But, uh, we got a little spot here. I think I don't know if there's [clears throat] Oh, there's a mud flap that goes on here. He took everything off and it's probably rubbed and it just rubbed through the paint. That should be fine once I sand the rust out of that. I'll treat it with some rust inhibitor. All these spots real quick. There's a couple spots in the door jam like in here. He wire wheeled the rust down. I'm going to touch that stuff up. Um, like I said, we're not looking for no show paint job or anything like that. Look, I didn't realize this. What happened to his window tent, but um, he drives this as a daily driver for his work. He's a, uh, computer tech for a school, high school or Kanyot schools. I don't know if it's the whole system or just a high school.

[00:06:14]I don't know how that works. But anyways, really very very few minor little dings.

[00:06:20]It's probably a day, two days of prep.

[00:06:23]Shoot it. light scuff and buff and it'll be out of here. And then he's bringing a pickup truck. Same type situation. Same color, a Ford pickup truck. We're going to paint it white, fix up some spots on it. Cuz when you live in Pennsylvania, you can't have rust holes in your car.

[00:06:38]If you have a rust hole in your car, you have to fix it or you will not pass inspection. So that rear wheel well will not pass inspection. So he has no choice but to get it fixed, which I think is kind of crappy, but what do I know? But you know, then I drive my own vehicles around all dented up because I don't really care.

[00:07:00]What did they say? The shoe maker always has the worst shoes. Is that Is that the saying? Like I just noticed this the other day over here. Look at this.

[00:07:08]There's some rust coming through there.

[00:07:11]It's fine. Eventually I probably will have to fix that unfortunately. I got a big rusted blister coming right there.

[00:07:23]But, uh, that's where I'm at so far. So, let me get this finished cleaning up in here.

[00:07:31]Finally put all that crap away. I'm going to push this car back in here.

[00:07:34]Just figured I'd show you what it looked like outside real quick. Um, and then, uh, I'm going wheel that motor into the spray booth and shut these doors so I can finish sweeping out here and cleaning up over there. And then, uh, we'll be in the basement. So, I'll see you guys in a few. I was getting ready to move the car in and I was like, "You know what? I bet you you guys don't know. How do I move these cars by myself with no motors in them?" I'm going show you.

[00:07:57]I'm going to show you how I do this.

[00:07:59]This is an idea I came up with years ago and it's worked freaking awesome. So, I'm by myself quite a bit. Obviously, if somebody's here, it's easier to pull it in. But, if you look right there, I have a receiver hitch on the floor bolted into the concrete with 6-in anchors. I have one here. I have one over there.

[00:08:18]And there's going to be some in the back building. So, what I do is I bring my wench in here.

[00:08:29]This big guy here.

[00:08:39]Slide it into the receiver.

[00:08:56]Then we can uh freeze pull it.

[00:09:03]Where's my lever at? Here.

[00:09:11]We'll take this thing out.

[00:09:15]to the car. And the good thing about these old Porsches, they got a hook on the front.

[00:09:28]I'm going to use my uh strap so hopefully it takes it out past the bumper.

[00:09:34]Strap's not super long, but I think it'll work.

[00:09:54]Strap don't fit in there.

[00:10:04]Should be okay without it. And I got to grab my charger.

[00:10:16]So, I use my jump box and I hook it up positive ground.

[00:11:02]Might be able to just go to the frame. I don't know if it'll work to the frame. I never tried that before, I don't think.

[00:12:36]That car I've been just pushing in here, but it's [clears throat] a little heavier now with all the stuff on it.

[00:12:43]Okay, so now we can wheel the car in. And then because I'm cordless, I can move the steering as I need it.

[00:14:14]It it this thing pulls the DY in no problem. Works awesome.

[00:14:41]Probably should have not turned the remote off yet.

[00:15:01]And the nice thing about this is I'm going to be putting a receiver hitch on the front and back of my Jeep. So, if I get stuck plowing, I can come in here, grab this wench, slide it onto the Jeep, and get myself out on my own without having to worry about having somebody come pull me out cuz I do occasionally get stuck, especially when we get 3 ft of snow overnight.

[00:15:31]This goes back on my cart and I just put everything away. So, all right. Now I'm going to finish cleaning up in here and uh we'll go in the basement.

[00:15:42]Okay, [snorts] so I have the solar Fox opened up. Um I did receat a bunch of sockets and I uh sprayed deoxit in receated a bunch of chips and I sprayed deoxit in the um chip holders, whatever the hell you want to call them, sockets.

[00:16:00]Um and that really didn't do much different. Um, I'm not going to turn it on right this minute, but I'm going to show you what I found here. Um, which I never really did a lot with this game because, um, I put a switching power supply in it and it worked. Uh, but if you look, look at this fuser or this fuser. Look at this fuse.

[00:16:20]Completely rusted. Okay. So, then I was I was looking at them. I'm like, man, those things are rusty. So, I really started investigating down here and realized that I'm going to change these three fuse holders. Then I'm looking closer and these were kind of like tucked off to the other side and I didn't look at them. Well, it turns out that a mouse has gotten in here, not when it was in my house before, and chewed the casing off the wire. And look at the green corrosion on that copper. Okay. Uh, green corrosion on copper causes resistance in the line, which could, in my opinion, I think it could cause possible interference. So, I'm going to replace this orange line.

[00:17:05]This orange line. Um, this one right here is also chewed. Uh, this was disconnected. This needed to go to here.

[00:17:13]Um, I did put that under there. Um, the screen did clear up a little bit. Um, [snorts] but I'm going to go ahead and replace these three fuse holders here and these two here. I'm going to solder these wires back on. We're going to I'm going to change all these orange wires that are chewed. I think there's even a black wire that's chewed. This wire right here might be chewed a little bit.

[00:17:34]Yes, it's chewed a little bit, too. So, I'm going to replace all those off camera because obviously you're not really going to be able to see what I'm doing. Um, I even tried a different switching power supply, which still I'm not going to rule that out because these are cheap switching power supplies and these MCR games, you know, usually run better on a better quality power supply.

[00:17:54]So, if this doesn't fix it, at least at that point, I know that that is out of the equation, then I'll switch to a different power supply because I'm cranking this power supply to 5.7 5.8 8 to get 5 to 5.1 at the chip. So, that's pretty pretty good uh voltage drop. And I'm wondering if the voltage drop is caused by those wires having corrosion in them because when you have corrosion on copper, it makes the electricity go through harder to go through the copper.

[00:18:27]So, I'm going to get those replaced and then I'll come back and we'll turn it on and we'll see if the interference is gone or if it's still there. And if it's still there, I'll order a better switching power supply. And at least then I've narrowed out all my uh things that could possibly be wrong other than switching the sockets on the board set itself. So that's where I'm at with that. I'm going to do that tonight and we're going to turn it on and see if we have any improvement. U let me grab my tripod. We're going to go look at some artwork that came today. The blueprint artwork came the marquee and the side art and it looks really good. I'm happy with it. But I do have a story to go along with it.

[00:19:16]So, here's the artwork. I did not unwrap the marquee.

[00:19:24]So, this came from Escape Pod.

[00:19:28]Uh, turns out that this old game, I believe, has side art now.

[00:19:33]But it looks good. Looks really good.

[00:19:36]Very happy with that. And the marquee looks good.

[00:19:41]And the funny thing is, let's start the story here. Okay, so this marquee is on 8 inch plexi. He always says it's on 316 because it should be on 316 and he puts it on 8 in to save a dollar, $2. I don't know that. I don't never could understand that. Just be honest. say, "Hey, it's going to be on eighth inch plexiglass, not 316." Um, so anyways, today I well last week I had ordered that stuff maybe a week or so ago and I messaged him on Facebook and I said, "Hey, can you do me a favor and just let me know how much it is? Can you add in my order 10 5-in long Williams stickers, white vinyl? Cut them out of white vinyl, 5 in long, however tall they end up being for my coin doors. I wanted to put them on my coin doors. So, I said, "Make me cut me 10 of those out of white vinyl." And and also, I need four uh 3 and 1 half x five pinball instruction cards printed up. So, four instruction cards. You know, there's two per game, two games. So, two and two is four. And then 10 William stickers. I was like, can you just add that into my order? So, my order comes. I never got a message or a quote or anything like that. So, the order comes today and it's not in there. So, I'm like, all right, no big deal. Messaged him. I said, "Hey, can you still do that other stuff for me?" He's like, "I don't know what you're talking about." I'm like, "I messaged it to you last week." So, he goes back and he looks. He's like, "Oh, okay. Yeah, I see He's like, "Well, let me uh let me uh send you an invoice so you can pay it and then it'll be in the system." I'm like, "Okay." He's like, "So, what do you want again?" I'm like, "10 Williams decals with the William logo in front of where it says Williams, all in white vinyl cutout of white vinyl. No printing involved. It's basically you could do it on a Cricut cutter from Walmart." So, 10 10 of those. All right. That's going to take up less than one square foot of vinyl.

[00:21:49]And then I said, "Print me four instruction cards for the pinball on photo paper." And I told him, I sent him all the images and files ready to click on, size, and print. You don't have to do any sort of work other than literally download the image. The Williams logo was a JPEG. You basically you download it on the screen. You type in how long you want it. Five inches long. It's going to adjust whatever height it goes to. You're done. You're ready to hit cut. And then the four uh instruction cards. You download the file. They're there. You size them to the size you want. You hit print. Um, so he sends me an invoice and I get the invoice and he sends me a $216 invoice plus $10 shipping for four instruction cards and 10 5-in long William stickers cut out of vinyl. $216 plus $10 in shipping. I messaged him back. I'm like, that's way too much money. I'm not interested. And he says, "Okay." Then I'm sitting there for a minute. I'm I messaged him back. I was like, "How can you even justify that price? How can you even justify that kind of money for something that minute?

[00:23:10]He's like, well, there's time in putting it in the computer and materials and ink. I'm like, dude, all that stuff combined is $5 in materials, 10 at the most, and you're going to charge me $26 labor to do that. I was like, I've spent literally I have spent tens of thousands of dollars with Arcade Shop or I'm sorry, not Arcade Shop with Escape Pod over the past 12, 13 years of my life because not only do I buy not only have I bought a bunch of stuff from him, but when I do restorations, I buy a lot of stuff from him. So, I'm thinking in my head, I'm like, I don't want it for free. Don't think I wanted it for free.

[00:23:47]But I'm thinking in my head, logically, it's going to be 50 60 bucks, right?

[00:23:51]Doesn't that sound more than fair? And that's what I said to him. And then after that, I was like, "You know what?

[00:23:56]Screw him." Um, I just told him, I said, "Sorry, man. You just lost another customer because I'm not doing that's ridiculous." So, um, I ordered the artwork today for the Frogger cabinet and, um, actually, I went on Etsy because, uh, Sticker Smmith had it on sale and he, uh, it's two sides and it comes with the wood grain. So, not only does it have the the Frogger decals on the sides, but it has the wood grain with it. So, I don't have to put regular wood grain on the cabinet first. I can just do it all in one shot. So, I got two sides, the lower front kick panel, control panel overlay, I believe there was an RP, and the um screen bezel, and it was $210 shipped. So, I can get all that material shipped for $210, but I can't get 10 5 inch long Williams decals and four instruction cards for the same price.

[00:24:51]So, he just, like I said, he lost a customer. And I'm telling you guys, so that you guys know, you know, you do your own thing. You want to buy from him, go for it. I will never ever ever spend another penny with him. I would rather go without artwork than to give him any more of my money. That is just plain ridiculous. I mean, when you have a good customer that pays you and always pays you and never complains and just does, you know, whatever you he just does it. I just take, you know, I order it and I wait and he gets it to me and that's it. But that was the last draw.

[00:25:26]Man, I could not believe that. Leave in the comments. Let me know what you guys think of that. Was I wrong for calling him out on it? Was I am I wrong for not wanting to uh order from him anymore? Um because I sure know a lot of people that don't want don't order from him anymore and he's uh I think part of it is is he's he's hurting for money because he's not selling as much because who wants to deal with his crap? I know I'm not and he should have thought about it because I don't have a lot of, you know, views per video, but they still get out there.

[00:26:00]You know what I mean? People are going to listen to it and be like, "Yeah, screw that guy." And some people are still going to order from him, which is fine. I'm not saying not to order from him, but I'm just letting you know how he treats people that have done business with him for over 12 years. I mean, I was making multicades 12 years ago and buying artwork weekly from him. And where did all that go? I mean, at what point do I just get treated like somebody who's never bought from him before? I I just couldn't believe it.

[00:26:31]See, I'm a nice guy. I would never ever do that to anybody. If somebody called me with that order and told me exactly what it was, I'd be like, I don't know, 30 bucks, 35 bucks shipped. How's that sound? It's literally going to take me less than 10 minutes of labor and it's going to take me less than $10 in materials. Okay, so how can you justify charging $26 for 15 minutes of work? I mean, come on, guys. I have all the equipment to do it. My equipment is down right now. I haven't used my printer in probably 8 months to a year. So, it all needs to be cleaned and gone through.

[00:27:07]It's going to need all new print heads.

[00:27:08]It's going to be all new ink. I'm going to have to spend $1,000 to get that printer up and running again. And uh, you know, the cutter, all that stuff.

[00:27:17]The cutter's fine. It just, you know, but I was just trying to make it easier because all my stuff is just stuffed in a room right now because once the back building gets done, it's all getting moved out there and then I'll get everything up and running again. But god, did that frustrate me. So, um I've ordered from Sticker Smith before and I've had really good luck with it. Um so, we'll see how it goes. And you know, some places have cheaper vinyls than other, you know, and I'm sure Sticker Smith is in the med middle of the road.

[00:27:46]I am totally fine with that. I don't need uh super thick vinyl. And to be honest with you, most people say that the thinner vinyl is actually better than the thicker vinyl. A I like to tuck my vinyl side art vinyl into where the T- molding groove is because when you hammer it down, it locks it in there and keeps that edge from flipping back on you. I hate that. And uh when you get the thicker vinyl, you can't do that because when you wrap it around the corner and you hammer in your uh T- molding, it starts buckling on that edge. It starts popping out because it's just too thick. It can't handle it. Um but also, I paint my cabinets with automotive paint. So when I'm done painting my cabinet, it is nice and smooth. So I don't need to have super thick vinyl. I'm not covering up imperfections or anything like that. So um it'll be just fine. And also laminating side art in my opinion is a huge waste of money. Okay, [clears throat] this this stuff holds up. You don't need to laminate the sides of this stuff. That's what makes a lot of people's artwork more expensive is they put clear laminate over it. You don't need it, guys. You could take unlaminated artwork and scrub on it and it takes a little bit for the ink to come off. And you really have to scrub on it to get the ink off. I know because when I print side art and stuff, I don't put laminate on it because there's no reason to. It's a waste of money. And I just realized I scratched the side of my artwork on my Arabian cabinet. So, that's pretty sweet. I didn't scratch it. I actually peeled the piece back. So, I'm going have to glue that back on. Um, so I'm going to go over there and work on the uh solar Fox and see if I can't change those wires and the fuse holders and see if I get any luck with the static on the screen to see if it improves it. If it doesn't, next stop, next thing I'm going to do is I'm going to order a nicer power supply. Put that in there. If that doesn't take care of it, then at that point, I'm going to have to figure out what is going on in the board. probably going to have to change the sockets. Um, and uh, see if that corrects the issue.

[00:29:41]Or maybe the chips need to be reburned.

[00:29:43]Maybe I need to get some new chips burned. I don't know. But I'm going to start with the obvious and let's fix these wires that are kind of a a fire hazard if you think about it. There's bare wires hanging out down there, which I never saw because I never took this game apart other than just painting the outside of the cabinet and putting a uh power supply, an MCR adapter in there with a switching power supply. So, all right, I'm going to go get this done.

[00:30:08]It's going to take me a little bit and then I'll come back and uh we'll turn it on and see what it looks like. But yeah, look at this. I don't know how I did that one. That sucks.

[00:30:20]got it to stick back down, but I'm going to have to take some spray adhesive on it.

[00:30:26]So, all right, let me go get this done and then I'll be back. All right, just got done replacing all that stuff. I used some uh copper, steel, wool, whatever the hell you call it to clean the fuses. This is one of the old fuses that came out, all rusty. These are the fuse holders all corroded, crappy looking. Um, I took out the wires that were uh um chewed up. So, now we're going to put the circuit board back in here.

[00:30:59]Obviously, I have not tested it because I don't pre-est things. I figure let the camera roll. Let's see what we got. You know what I mean?

[00:31:15]I don't know that this is going to fix it, but it needed to be done regardless.

[00:31:24]I'm not going to hook up the controls and stuff right now cuz that doesn't matter. We just need to see if we have any sort of improvement.

[00:33:52]What a huge difference. I mean, it's not perfect. Don't get me wrong. There's still some glitching going on.

[00:40:19]It's not the ribbon cables. I've screwed with those and they're new. But that doesn't mean anything.

[00:40:39]So, next step, uh I'll probably order a power supply to make sure we don't have interference. And then, um I'm going to replace the sockets because they are single wipe sockets and those suck. You know, these chips might just not be making good contact. But at least I took care of the chewed up wires. That's one step that I had to do it regardless.

[00:41:01]Fuse holders having new ones is a good thing to do, too. Um, I'm going to wiggle one more wire around just to see the power going into the converter board.

[00:43:43]Turn it off real quick. I'm going to use this steel wool or copper wool, whatever the heck you call it, on these connectors for the line filter. And then that'll be it for tonight.

[00:45:15]But like I said, if those chips aren't making good contact on the board, I'm just kind of messing with the board real quick.

[00:47:15]But we'll do the sockets. We'll test it and uh go from there. Just keep uh screwing with it till hopefully I figure out what's going on with it. Um the game plays and works fine.
