[00:00:00]Coffee in Ethiopia isn't just part of the culture. It is the culture. Ethiopia is widely considered as the birthplace of coffee, linked to the Kaffa region where it's believed to have originated.

[00:00:09]The ceremony begins with the setting.

[00:00:11]Fresh green grass called Katema is laid on the floor and incense is burned, filling the space and setting the tone.

[00:00:16]Then the process starts. Green coffee beans are roasted in front of you releasing a rich aroma before being ground by hand and brewed in a clay pot called a jebena. Coffee is then served in three rounds, Abol, Tona, and Bereka.

[00:00:29]Abol is the first and strongest cup.

[00:00:31]Tona is lighter, brewed from the same grounds, and Bereka, meaning a blessing before you go, is the final round marking the end of the ceremony.
