Thunderstorms can produce significantly different precipitation amounts across nearby areas due to geographic and atmospheric variations, as demonstrated by the Monday storm in the Pikes Peak region where the northeast side of Colorado Springs received 0.83 inches of rain while the Colorado Springs Airport received only 0.17 inches, with areas further south experiencing dramatically less precipitation.

Monday night's storm brought much needed moisture to parts of the Pikes Peak regionAdded:
Storm brought some much needed moisture to parts of the Pikes Peak region and meteorologist Lauren Brand is here to break down how much rain fell and which areas were hit the hardest.
Training thunderstorms moved through Colorado Springs and parts of El Paso County on Monday. This brought heavy rain, gusty winds, and even some hail.
The Colorado Springs Airport received 0.17 inches of rain, but the north side of Colorado Springs was definitely the hot spot. The highest total that we had was on the northeast side of town where we got 0.83 inches of rain. This is a big difference from areas further south where these totals dropped off dramatically and we didn't have as much thunderstorm activity. We received so many pictures from viewers of the hail from these thunderstorms. Take a look at this video that was sent in by Aiden Holting from the Briargate area. Hail roughly the size of dimes can be seen in this video. Many noticed how loud these thunderstorms were once the hail started to move in. Now, here's a look at a video that was sent in by Janette where you can really see how big the hail got.
Now, while not everyone saw the benefit of the moisture, we're not done yet. The First Alert Weather Team is continuing to track wetter conditions later this week. In studio, meteorologist Lauren Brand, News [music] 5.
