The Russia-Ukraine conflict involves complex diplomatic maneuvers where Russia employs strategic pressure tactics, including using former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder as a potential mediator despite his close ties to Russian state interests, while the EU and Western allies implement increasingly sophisticated sanctions targeting Russia's shadow fleet and financial institutions to weaken its negotiating position. Ukraine has demonstrated military resilience by stabilizing front lines and developing advanced drone warfare capabilities, while international partners like the UK impose additional sanctions targeting Russian child abduction operations and disinformation campaigns. The conflict illustrates how modern warfare combines military operations with economic pressure, diplomatic negotiations, and information warfare, with each side employing distinct strategies to achieve political objectives.

⚡️Everything being decided NOW! Rubio shut down Lavrov! Moscow asking for negotiationsAdded:
The Kremlin is now trying to slow down expectations about any peace deal with Ukraine. Dmitri Pisco says that reaching a peace agreement with Ukraine is a very long road with a many complicated details. In other words, Moscow is openly warning that there will be no quick breakthrough even as Washington is trying to push the process forward.
Pisco said the United States is clearly in a hurry, but the issue of ending Russia's war against Ukraine is too complex. He was responding to comments by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who said Washington is ready to mediate only if there is real progress. At the same time, Putin is sending another political signal, this time to Armenia.
He said Armenia must decide as soon as possible whether it wants to move toward the European Union or remain inside the Eurasian Economic Union led by Moscow.
Putin said that if Armenia chooses another path, Russia could go through what he called a soft, intelligent, and mutually beneficial divorce. And the cynical part is this. Putin compared Armenia's possible EU path to Ukraine.
He suggested that Ukraine's war began because Ukraine wanted to move toward the European Union. So once again, Russia is blaming independent countries for wanting to choose their own future.
Ukraine wanted EU and NATO membership.
Russia invaded. Armenia wants Europe.
Moscow talks about some kind of divorce.
In my view, it would be right both in relation to the citizens of Armenia and in relation to us as Armenia's main economic partner to decide as soon as possible. For example, to hold a referendum. This is not our business, but in principle, it would be quite logical to hold a referendum and ask the citizens of Armenia what their choice is. Depending on that choice, we would draw the appropriate conclusions and move along the path of a soft, intelligent, and mutually beneficial divorce.
>> After dictator Putin suggested that former German Chancellor Garrett Schroeder could mediate talks on Ukraine and Europe's future security, the European Union made it clear Moscow will not choose Europe's negotiator. EU foreign policy chief Kayakala said Europe should not allow Russia to appoint someone on Europe's behalf.
First, if we give the right to Russia to appoint uh negotiator on our behalf, you know, that would not be very wise. And second, I think Garrett Churder has been the lobby high level lobbyist for Russian stateowned companies. So, it's clear why Putin wants him to be the person so that actually, you know, he would be sitting on both sides of the table. Schroer is not a neutral figure for many Europeans and Ukrainians. He has long been as close to Putin and connected to Russian stateowned energy interests. So for Moscow, he may look like a perfect mediator. But for Europe, that looks more like a Kremlin friendly channel back into the heart of European politics. the uh issue of the European security is that Russia is constantly attacking its neighbors um and how we can actually prevent that and for that we need concessions also uh from the Russian side. I was uh uh just um last week in Muldova. I mean there are Russian troops for example that could be also one of the conditions um to to have you know stability and security in the region that they take their troops away.
But there are of course a lot of questions uh related to what are our requests to Russia in order to have stable and and peaceful Europe. And now Lavro is trying to make Washington responsible for the failure of talks with Ukraine. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Larov reacted to Marco Rubio's warning that the United States could step back from the negotiation process if there is no real progress of ending Russia's war in Ukraine. Lavrov claimed that Moscow still stands by the so-called encourage understandings from August 2025. According to him, that was the moment when Vladimir Putin accepted Donald Trump's proposal in Alaska. But the way Lavro frame it is very cynical.
Russia invaded Ukraine. Russia keeps demanding Ukrainian territory. Russia keeps saying there can be no serious talks unless Ke accepts Moscow's conditions and now Lavrov says that if Washington cannot move the process forward, it's not Russia's problem.
>> We cannot speak for the American side.
We confirm our position which is that in Alaska in August of last year, President Putin accepted the proposal of President Trump. On this, I will put a full stop.
Everything else depends on the other side. If our American colleagues believe that they have no ability to move this agreement forward, that is not our problem.
>> Europe is preparing a new sanction strikes against Russia. And this time, the Kremlin's shadow fleet is back in the crosshairs. According to Politico, Brussels is working on a new 21st sanctions package against Moscow expected in late June. The main target may be Russia's so-called shadow fleet, a network of old and secretly owned tankers that helps Moscow keep selling oil around the world despite Western restrictions. EU officials believe that by hitting this fleet harder, they can cut deeper into Russia's income and increase pressure on Putin to drop his maximalist demands in any future peace deal. The new package may also target Russian banks, financial institutions, military industrial companies, and firms involved in selling stolen Ukrainian grain. After the change of power in Hungary, Brussels believes it may now be possible to revive sanctions that were previously blocked by Victor Orban's government.
>> Russia's economy is the worst internally it has been since the start of the war.
It really is the moment to push for more because Russia is not doing well. The 90 billion and the sanctions work. It gives momentum and puts Ukraine in a much better place. It's important that this momentum exists. Now we should be pushing. Ka Kalas and Ursula Vonelion want a big package. Tightening the screws on the fleet will help choke off one of the Kremlin's most important revenue streams. It will also increase pressure on Vladimir Putin to drop his maximalist demands in any Ukraine peace deal. After years of Victor Orban using the EU veto as a political weapon, Budapest now says this practice is over.
Hungary's incoming foreign minister Anita Orban said the country will no longer use its veto power inside the European Union as a tool of blackmail.
She admitted that Hungary had too often become an obstacle in Europe's decision-making process. and she said the veto had been used not as a last resort but for political PR. This is a major change in tone after years when Budapest blocked or delayed key EU decisions including those linked to Ukraine sanctions and European unity.
Anita Orurban said Hungary will support Ukraine's future EU integration only on the basis of what she called strict national interest and will continue demanding additional rights for the Hungarian minority in Ukraine.
Hungary has too often become an obstacle in Europe's decision-making process.
We use the veto not as a last resort but for political PR.
Hungary will support Ukraine's further EU integration only on the basis of strict national interest and will continue to demand additional rights for the Hungarian minority in Ukraine.
Ukraine has come out of the hardest winter stronger. The front has been stabilized and Ukraine now says it can shoot down almost 90% of Russian drones.
Foreign Minister Andre Sabha said this before meeting his European counterparts in Brussels. He also spoke about Ukraine's long range strikes inside Russia, calling them special long range sanctions and saying they are working.
>> We have new reality on the battlefield.
So Ukraine became stronger after the most difficult winter. We managed to pass this winter of course with the help of our international partners and uh on the battlefield we stabilized front. We stabilized front and uh we also in the position that we close close the sky. If you're talking about drones now, we could shoot down up to 90% of aerial objects by which Russians uh attack us. Also, we are conducting very effective special long range sanctions and they are working.
Also we noticed new some very interesting developments in Russia not only in economy so we are following them and for us it is also the signal to continue pressure on Russia.
That's why also I'm here to discuss with my colleagues new packages of sanctions.
>> Europe also sees that Ukraine is in a much stronger position than just a few months ago. Finnish foreign minister said Ukraine now holds the strongest cards not because the war has become easier but because Ukraine has held the front regained some territory and turned its wartime experience into a international resources. This especially applies to drone and counter drone warfare where Ukrainian expertise is now highly valued around the world. What is uh absolutely new uh during or what has happened during this year is that uh basically Ukraine has shown uh that they actually hold the strongest cards. Now first of all their position has strengthened quite significantly over the course of the past let's say 2 3 months not only militarily they have been able to hold the line and also regained some territory back that Russia has illegally occupied from them. Uh at the same time uh also politically we have seen that uh Ukraine has been able to forge some uh deals with uh for instance countries in the Gulf region uh bringing their expertise their knowhow in air defense specifically uh in the drone warfare how to fight those uh and we do see that the expertise that Ukrainians hold uh is highly valued across the world. Because of the abduction of Ukrainian children, the United Kingdom has imposed new sanctions against Russia. The restrictions targeted 85 individuals and organizations. London says these people and entities are involved in the deportation of Ukrainian children. They are forced re-education, militarization, and the imposion of a Russian identity.
The sanctions also target Russian information operation abroad, disinformation campaigns, and attempts to influence democratic processes in other countries. Britain says Russia is trying to break not only Ukrainian territory, but also the future of Ukrainian children.
The UK will not stand idly by as Putin seeks to sew lies and pro Kremlin narratives abroad.
Today's sanctions are a strong step in exposing and disrupting the depths Russia is willing to go to interfere and undermine democracy and destroy Ukraine's future through the abhorrent deportation and indoctrination of Ukrainian children.
The UK's support for Ukraine remains ironclad and we will continue to work alongside our allies to support every effort to identify and trace the children that have been cruy taken from their communities and bring them home.
How Prussian nostalgi is competing with the Europe's future in Estonia. On Europe day, the Estonian border city of Narva was almost split into two different worlds. One side of the river was Europe with the flags of the EU, Estonia and NATO. The other side was Russian Evangorat where people gathered for a May 9 concert, Soviet songs and nostalgia for the past. The same emotional hook the Kremlin still uses to hold some people close. For some older Russianspeaking residents, May 9 is still a deeply personal date. But for younger generation and for many Estonians, Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine has changed everything.
>> Personally, I am very happy. Our grandfather's food and that matters to us.
The people with families uh celebrate Europe day in our town hall squares partly go look concert in in Riverside and go back and in the evening you can see that the food show of uh Nava is in um Da Square and the past I mean the older people in my age and older are in Riverside.
It is like one really borderline from future past.
>> Russia continues to militarize Ukrainian children in occupied Crimea. According to the occupation authorities, Crimea is now among the top 10 regions of a Russia and occupied territories by a number of military and propaganda projects for children and teenagers. Ahead of May 9, Russian installed authorities organized victory parades in kindergartens, involved school children in drone competitions, and held pro-war events with Russian symbols and slogans.
According to Ukraine's Center for National Resistance, hundreds of Kadets classes are operating in Crimea, where children receive drill, shooting, and drone training. More than 210 so-called patriotic camps have also been created.
Schools in occupied Crimea are also being transferred to Russian educational standards while the Ukrainian language is being removed from the educational system. That's all for now. Thank you for watching.
