Interestingly enough, the Germans during World War I were terrified of shotguns, specifically the Winchester 1897, which would have been a slamfire shotgun, uh, shooting double buck. They actually tried arguing that it caused unnecessary suffering, so it should be unlawful in warfare, which is uh odd considering uh all the other techniques that were used at the time, such as bayonets, machine guns, artillery, flamethrowers, poisonous gas, but yet shotguns is what they had a true issue with. Frontline soldiers just saw the damage that that gun could do and they wanted absolutely nothing to do with it.
