[00:00:00]UMNO Secretary General Ashraf Wajdi Dusuki has slammed DAP's Tony Pua over his remarks on the monarchy and royal decrees.

[00:00:09]>> [music] >> In a Facebook post, Ashraf accused Pua of disrespecting the royal institution, saying that ridiculing a Sultan's decree was not freedom of speech, but rudeness.

[00:00:19]The former Damansara MP wrote yesterday that the powers of the monarch were strictly limited [music] to defined aspects such as Malay customs, Islam, and constitutional roles such as the appointment of Menteri Besar and approval for the dissolution of state assemblies.

[00:00:35]Pua said Malaysians did not live in a system whereby the monarch can issue binding decrees which legislate all aspects of our lives.

[00:00:43]His comments follow a call by Selangor's Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah for DAP [music] assemblyman Wong Sze Keat and former DAP leader Ronnie Liu to better understand the Rukun Negara and respect the royal institution.

[00:00:57]The statement came amid controversy surrounding Wong and Liu's response [music] to the Sultan's call for a complete end to pig farming in the state.

[00:01:05]Wong attracted brickbats with [music] her proposal for a modern closed pig farming system in Selangor, while Liu urged dissatisfied pig farmers [music] to consider filing a judicial review.
