The United States has conducted defensive military strikes against Iranian targets, including drones and ground control stations, while simultaneously facing domestic political pressures from approaching midterm elections. This scenario illustrates how international conflicts often intersect with domestic political considerations, as leaders must balance military and diplomatic responses with electoral concerns. The video also highlights congressional accountability issues, exemplified by Congressman Tom Kean's extended absence from voting, demonstrating how political systems maintain oversight mechanisms even during periods of international tension.

US accuses Iran of violating ceasefire after renewed strikesAdded:
All right.
Well, the United States has carried out some new strikes against Iran as Kuwait now has faced new drone and missile attacks overnight. Yeah.
Let's get the dog down in DC. Hi, Doug.
>> Hey, good morning. US officials confirmed the shoot down of several Iranian attack drones as well as an attack on a ground control station even as the president cites progress to end the war.
>> Thank you very much. We have a lot of very happy people around the table cuz we're a great team.
>> The president with another free-wheeling cabinet meeting saying Iran wants a deal.
>> And if they won't, then the man on my left is going to finish him off.
>> The man on his left, War Secretary Pete Hegseth. But the president also with a new threat to Oman with reports that Iran wants to jointly control access to the Strait of Hormuz with that country.
>> Oman will behave just like everybody else, so we'll have to blow them up.
>> At the same time, economic and political pressures are mounting here at home.
>> [cheering] >> Something Iran knows well.
>> I'm sure the Russians and the Chinese are giving them behind-the-scenes accounts from their own intelligence reporting on the extent to which the United States is deeply concerned.
>> The president dismissed political concerns.
>> They thought they were going to outwait me, you know, we'll outwait him. He's got the midterms. I don't care about the midterms. Look what happened last night.
>> [cheering] >> That was a reference to the victory of his preferred candidate in a Texas Senate primary runoff race in Texas. But the midterms will be a different challenge.
>> This president is a political animal. Of course he cares about the midterms. Of course he's thinking about the midterms.
My sense was in that comment he was saying to the Iranians, don't think that you have me over the barrel here because I'm not going to be pressured.
>> Still, those pressures are real and they're a growing concern for Republicans here on Capitol Hill with those midterms bearing down. Back to you guys.
>> Here in Jersey, we're wondering where Congressman Tom Kean is.
Do you know?
>> I do not. Um, and no one seems to know where he is. Uh, he's been missing for what a couple couple of three months.
Um, I think the last vote he had was in March.
You know, his office has indicated it's it's a health issue, but they're not disclosing any more information about that. Um, >> I understand that.
>> the New York Times reported recently that he's been reaching out to colleagues. Uh, but look, you know, that's not a gimme district uh, that he's in. Um, and um, uh, so it it really is uh, it really is a mystery around here.
>> And the fact that one that it's so divided and he's missed more than 50 votes.
>> Right.
>> And people feel like there should there be some sort of accountability as far as we know you're dealing with a health issue, but what's going on?
>> Yeah, Speaker Johnson doesn't want to lose that vote. You know what I mean?
So, he he's >> Yeah, listen, you know, the number of Democrats are are are vying to take him on in that seat. And you know, most most congressional seats are are pretty easy to to to stay in. Um, that's not one of them.
>> Right.
Okay, we'll see. Yeah, Speaker Johnson said he didn't know anything about it.
That's just impossible. How how Anyway, here's Sue.
>> Deep breath.
