Drought conditions are monitored through meteorological summer data, which tracks rainfall deficits and temperature surpluses; the tri-state area is currently experiencing severe drought with Central Park at a 16.1-inch deficit, while forecasts indicate potential soaking rain (1-2+ inches) on Monday, which could help alleviate the drought conditions.

Drought conditions continue across tri-state area
Added:meteorological summer because we refer to meteorological summer because it just gives climatologists a better option or chance to crunch the numbers so we can get our statistics, but of course astronomical summer is based on the Earth's tilt and it's going to be toward the sun we get plenty of sunshine and warm temperatures and we're feeling the warmth, but taking a look at our drought monitor. Now, this has changed.
We had our update that came in yesterday. It comes in every Thursday.
Severe drought conditions highlighted in that brown color that you see. That includes the five boroughs, Nassau, Suffolk, a good part of Westchester County as well as southern Fairfield County and down and toward a good portion of the Garden State. Otherwise, it's either moderate drought or just abnormally dry conditions the further north you go. So, we are at a big deficit rounded to the nearest tenth Central Park 16.1 inches has been observed. We're at a deficit at about 6 inches. So, everywhere all of our local climate stations were at a deficit. So, we do need the rain and we stand the chance to get soaking rain for your Monday. So, looking at our monthly rainfall totals we're at a deficit by over an inch almost an inch and a half. And in our temperature category we're at a surplus.
You know, we had some 90° temperature readings. We're almost 3° up from normal. Here's a look at our satellite and radar. Winds out of the northwest.
Much less humid conditions. Comfortable.
This is what's left over from Arthur.
The showers will stay to our southeast.
Did bring some really intense rainfall across the Gulf States especially coastal sections, but we're not seeing any of that just yet, but we are seeing plenty of cloud cover the further south you go. We're not going to get any remnants from Arthur, but we'll get the clouds. Temperatures in the 60s across Rockland County. Across the tri-state around 70° New York City, 72 Farmingdale. Here's your wellness report. Grass is the main culprit, but the air quality will be good. Don't forget the sunscreen cuz UV index will be high at 7. So, pollen count is medium to high. Here's a look at today's highs.
We are in the 80s, nice and comfortable summer feel. Tonight will be in the upper 50s, low 60s. By the way, if you're headed to the beach, be aware there is a high rip current risk. So, don't fight the rip, swim with a friend, swim near lifeguards. Very, very important. Now, we skip ahead to your Monday. Showers developing to start. It looked like earlier on it was going to happen during the morning commute, but now it looks like it's delayed and I imagine the timing will change. Soaking rain, heavy at times, thunderstorms.
There could be some weather alerts.
We're probably going to go with one on Monday. Look at how much rain we stand to get. 1 to 2 plus inches. This is actually updated. So, we anticipate soaking rain. So, just be advised. Make sure you turn your cell phone notifications on in case if there any flood warnings that develop or advisories. Kickoff, as well as the final whistle, it's Norway and Senegal.
This is for Monday, by the way. Monday 8:00 p.m. is the kickoff time. Here's a look at your 7-day forecast. So, World Cup events, that will be a doozy getting to the arena. But, for your Friday, heading to any Juneteenth activities, no problems. Picture perfect for the weekend. And then, it looks like we end up really pretty nice with more rain late Thursday into Friday.
