The federal government can transfer public lands to state governments through legislative mechanisms like the Congressional Review Act (CRA), which has been used to fast-track land transfers for resource development projects such as the Trans-Alaska Pipeline and foreign-owned mines, potentially impacting wildlife habitat and recreational opportunities.

They Just Took 1.4 Million Acres From Public Land Lovers #publiclandsAjouté :
1.4 million acres up in Alaska no longer belongs to you. That's right, public land that used to belong to all of us has now been transferred to the state of Alaska. And this is why that's bad. It just happened on Alaska's famed Dalton Highway, which is this corridor in North Central Alaska that provides [music] access for DIY archery caribou hunts, also rad opportunities to fish for grayling and Dolly [music] Varden. A few days ago, the Department of Interior will have formally transferred 1.4 million acres of BLM land along with all the highway corridor. That's the stuff here in yellow to the state of Alaska.
And for context, that land is roughly the size of Delaware, and it's surrounded by other rad public lands like the Kanuti, Yukon Flats, and the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. It's also next to the Gates [music] of the Arctic National Park. Why? Well, the Trump administration says it wants to develop Alaska's natural gas project, the Trans-Alaska Pipeline. And it also wants to develop the end of road, a 200-mi highway through the Brooks Range that's going to cut right through the middle of big game habitat and thousands of rivers and streams just to support a foreign-owned mine. The kicker? Well, this transfer was authorized by some legislative fine print in Washington, D.C. this last [music] fall. It's through the Congressional Review Act again, or the CRA. Yeah, that same piece of obscure legislation that was used to fast-track a mine just upstream from the Boundary Waters. It's the same piece of legislation, the CRA, that's [music] going to be used to wipe out the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument.
Now, the use of the CRA [music] to screw up our premier wildlife habitat and the hunting and fishing opportunities to go with them, what needs to stop right now.
And the best way to make your voices heard is to vote in primaries and again this fall in November. But until then, you can tell Congress to stop messing with Alaska. Keep it wild.
