The 'defund the police' movement advocates for reallocating police department budgets to community services such as youth programs, social services, and mental health resources, rather than simply reducing police funding; this approach represents a fundamental reimagining of public safety that prioritizes community investment over traditional policing methods.

>> Will Robinson Will Robinson.
>> So, we've been talking about defunding the police.
>> Uh there's some issues that we ask police to do like mental health issues or policing in schools and all the rest [music] that perhaps we can uh shuffle some of that money around.
>> Suck it up. Defunding the police has to happen. We need to defund the police.
>> Mayor Eric Garcetti saying take some of the money from policing about $150 million. I applaud Eric Garcetti for doing what he's done.
>> What's wrong with you people?
>> Funding isn't necessarily as aggressive as as a lot of folks paint it paint it.
You know, school budgets get cut almost every year.
>> Not only do we need to disinvest for in police, but we need to completely dismantle the Minneapolis Police Department.
>> So, yes to some [music] defunding.
We have to reallocate resources. Yes.
Would you echo calls from some Black Lives Matter activists to defund the [music] police?
>> Well, I think now is the time that we need to actually do that work.
>> It is outdated. It is wrongheaded thinking to think that the only way you're going to get communities to be safe is to put more police officers [music] on the street. So, yes, defund your butts. Defund you.
>> We do need to reimag [music] how we are dispatched to these scenes in terms of what's the best tool [music] to bring. So again, what I mean by defund the police is not take all funds from the police. It is a reduction of the funding going into the police department.
>> They are talking about reducing the allocation of resources to that department. And I think every single [music] city in this country ought to be thinking about the same thing.
>> The minute you talk about, you know, reducing a police department's budget, [music] then it's like all hell breaks loose and everybody everybody acts like you you are you're signaling Armageddon.
But that's not the case. Yes, [music] I support the reallocation of resources uh from NYPD.
>> Quick note for anyone turning 65 or maybe you're already on Medicare. I got to tell y'all about this because I want to make sure that you're on the best plan for your needs by using a free resource called Chapter. I've partnered with them and you have my word that it won't cost you a thing. It's most likely going to end up saving you quite a bit of money each year. It sure did for my in-laws. It actually saved them a few thousand dollar by making sure that they had the right plan, the right coverage for their doctors. Unlike other places, they're actually going to compare every Medicare plan out there. They're going to make sure that you're set up with the right plan, something that you actually need, and if you don't need it, they'll tell you. I left the link for you and the phone number down in the description below. You should also see it on your screen right now. So, make that call.
It'll probably take you about 20 minutes. Hopefully, it'll be the best 20 minutes that you spend all year. So, back to the video.
>> We will be moving funding from the NYPD to youth initiatives and social services.
>> Yes, I [music] support the defund movement. I'm for responsible reallocation of resources >> and defund the police.
>> I think you do all those other things, you don't need all the money that's going [music] to the police department.
So, yeah, I mean, the spirit of it, I I I do support that >> we need to invest more in neighborhood services and programming for our residents, for our communities on the front end. [music] Where will that money come from? Well, it can come from overloaded uh budgets and police departments. [music] So no, we should not continue to fund more and more our law enforcement, putting the pressure on them to be the whole arbiter of a safe community. [music] >> Yeah. And you know, a lot of us were asked if we could imagine a future without police back in 2017 when we were running for office. And I answered yes to that question.
>> We are going to reduce funding in the police department and redirect that money. [music] >> There's no reason the police budget should just keep growing and growing and growing.
>> They can make sensible cuts to police.
We propose to redirect [music] over $7 million from the police bureau.
>> That our city through our city administrative officer identify $250 million in cuts.
>> The city council voting to dismantle, not just defund, but dismantle and rebuild the police department there. Is that a strategy you could agree with?
>> The council is being very thoughtful in terms of looking at all of the services that police provide. proceeded to leave, tweeting, "No more policing, incarceration, and militarization. It can't be reformed."
>> People want to see a reallocation of resources into community development, [music] and alternatives to just criminalizing um responses to behavior.
>> When they're saying [music] defund the police, what are they saying? They're saying we want fundamental basic [music] change when it comes to policing.
Uh and they're [music] right. We are reallocating funds. The the police department here in Minneapolis needs to be dismantled and we need to start a new >> in some necessary cases completely dismantling those [music] police forces.
>> Police departments uh are taking a sizable uh amount of the budget of a lot of municipalities and and other entities. Uh we need to look at those budgets, pull some of the money back and invest it in other things. We are committed to shifting resources.
>> We can talk about abolition and that's a conversation that you know people can have. We can think about that as a theoretical concept for some people as a goal to move towards [music] a society where we don't need police or where we don't need police to carry guns.
>> It needs to be defunded. By which I mean it's funding reduced. I'm not talking about eliminated, but it needs to be defunded in favor of things [music] that work better. to stop investing so much money in this militarized police force and instead invest in the things that our community really needs.
>> Yes, I support a radical reimagining [music] of community safety and public safety.
>> I do believe that we need to re reallocate resources [music] away.
>> And will this involve cuts? Yes, of course. To every department, including the police department.
>> And so when we dismantle it, we get rid of that cancer. When we said defund the [music] police, the world woke up.
>> I I really love that uh Black Lives Matters and [music] uh other protesters have put this front and center to defund >> defunding police means defunding police.
If these reports are accurate, then these proposed cuts to the NYPD budget are a disingenuous illusion. This is not a victory. [music] The freshman Democrat adding the fight to defund policing will continue. We are going to reimagine policing in [music] New York City.
>> I think the idea of having a policefree future is very aspirational and I am willing to stand with community members who are asking us to think of that as the goal >> should be defunding or dismantling their police departments such as in Minneapolis and and New York.
>> My answer is yes to that. We need to be looking at it clearly >> which means reallocating um and and not further investing in a [music] carceral state >> going through a process of dismantling that institution.
>> So defunding the police [music] um for me it means a reallocation of funds.
>> Why use the word defund? Why use the word defund? And it's like this is the word that's coming from the streets. You know, >> we're going to dissolve the gun violence reduction team, the school resource officer program, and the [music] transit specialty units. You don't have one bad apple. You don't have four bad apples.
You you have a a systemwide [music] problem in that police department. And only by completely dismantling that system and rebuilding it intentionally with the community members at the table do you have any hope of of getting it right. coming together as a community to reimagine what public safety looks like for us.
>> Uh we talk about defunding the police, uh defund [music] defunding the Pentagon.
>> My push is that we defund our police departments.
>> This idea of repprioritizing our budget.
um this idea of of moving funds and reinvesting, [music] >> it means that we need to look at ways in which we can reduce the [music] amount of resources that we're providing to the department, redirect those funds >> to [music] make sure that um that defund is first understood and that we bring that home to our community. So, Minneapolis unanimously just voted on a resolution that will engage >> [music] >> uh the community uh on a one-year process of what happens [music] as we go through the process of dismantling the department and starting a new.
>> And what we committed to was a community process to help reimagine public safety.
>> The city council in Minneapolis made the right decision.
>> So, when we talk about defunding, it can show up in multiple ways. We obviously took money out of the NYPD [music] budget, put it into youth programs, put it into social services, put it into recreation centers for young people. Um, that's really the the right direction.
I'm glad we did that.
>> Not only do we need to defund, but we need to dismantle and start a new allows us to really re-imag what public safety should look like in our community. But we also cannot be afraid to talk about what defund the police means. You know, we cannot. [music] >> It means a dramatic reduction in the number of police in our poor communities and particularly our poor [music] black and brown communities.
>> I'm asking you to ask yourself, what are you willing to sacrifice [music] to make sure that overfunded police departments are defunded?
>> Our commitment is to end our city's toxic relationship with the Minneapolis Police Department, to end policing as we know it. And so what we are advocating for is a reorientation, re-imagining of what public safety should be.
>> A lot of people have a very painfully toasty ending to their story if they don't open their eyes, repent of their sins, and turn to Jesus Christ. Because God's word in that Bible, the basic instructions before leaving earth, as we like to call it, it tells us in Luke 12 2 and 3, for there is nothing covered that will not be revealed, nor hidden that will not be known. Therefore, whatever you have spoken in the dark will be heard in the light, and what you have spoken in the ear in inner rooms will be proclaimed on the housetops.
Now, I'm not sure if these people will be held accountable while we're still here on earth. But please believe Jesus is returning, and you don't want to be found guilty. Come clean to your crimes.
All of us fall short of the glory of God, but only a select amount of people humble themselves and acknowledge their filth. You ain't getting anything over the head of the Almighty. I promise you, he sees everything. But the truth will set you free. Amen. Y'all let me know what you think in the comments section and I'll see you soon.
