[00:01:05]Okay, so I am a I would describe myself as a recovering Unitarian.

[00:01:12]Um I have I have an interesting story. I was part of a Unitarian church cult for about 5 years um when I was in college and I left that church um for a for other reasons other than what they were preaching, which was Jesus Jesus is the Father. Um and I I realized I just realized today that I did Again, I I didn't leave the church because of the heresy. I I left for again other reasons. There were bad things happening at the church and but when I left um I still had very strong Unitarian beliefs.

[00:01:55]So, the the first scripture that I wanted to ask about is um I believe I believe it's Isaiah 9 where the child that would be born, you know, would be called different names. And one of those names is, you know, everlasting father. Yep.

[00:02:14]>> So, how how do you how do you reconcile that if Jesus is not the father but proceeded forth from the father, what how does how does that scripture make make sense? Yeah, so the the word the Hebrew word is Abi Ad, meaning father of eternity or father of everlasting, right? Or it could be translated everlasting father. So, it's just these are descriptions or attributes that Jesus has, right? So, he's the source, father being source of eternities, the source of everlasting life. These are the descriptions of who he is and his power, his abilities, his attributes.

[00:02:48]Um so, him him having these descriptions is different from being the person of the heavenly father. That's different.

[00:02:58]Make sense? I did I never I never knew that every time we were taught that scripture, it was well, again, he's everlasting father, there's only one father, must be must be the father. Yeah, no, that's absolutely not. Yeah, no.

[00:03:14]Yeah, so okay, so what about the scripture I don't know I think it might be and I know it's New Testament where um it says that that God was reconciling the world to himself through Christ.

[00:03:30]I don't um um and I again, when whenever that scripture was taught, it was well, how can God reconcile the world to himself if in Christ if Christ is not the father in flesh?

[00:03:46]Well, it just means that the father used the son to reconcile the world to himself. That's all.

[00:03:53]Not that the Father is is that Christ is the Father in flesh. Yeah, that's that's like me if I said um I I brought you to myself, right? But I sent someone to bring you to me. Like this person worked for me. I said, "Go get my daughter."

[00:04:09]Or go get my friend. And they went and brought you to me. I I sent that person to get you. So, I brought you to myself.

[00:04:17]Right? So, I'm I'm the I'm the one who uh put forth the plan. Sure.

[00:04:22]>> agent was there to execute it. So, that's how it is. The Father put the plan of salvation. The Son executed the plan of salvation.

I I'm telling you I've been I've been struggling with these scriptures for for a literally over a decade over half a decade and um And okay, so one one more um when I think I think it's in um John 17, right? The Last Supper when um And Jesus said that he wouldn't leave the disciples, but he would bring he would send the Comforter. Yeah, John 14.

[00:05:09]John John 14. Oh, 14. Yes. Um That's what they use and they'll say like he he said he will come and be with them. He and the Father will come and make themselves known and make their make their home with us. Yes. Yeah, exactly.

[00:05:22]>> yet it's the Holy Spirit who comes and does that. Yes. Yeah.

[00:05:26]Mhm. So, I'm Can you Can you explain because I again I was taught that >> [snorts] >> um okay, Jesus said he would send the Comforter. But then a few scriptures later he says, "I will come to you. I won't leave you." You know, "I will come to you." So, again I was taught that well, Jesus has to be the Holy Spirit cuz he he said he would be the one to come. Yeah.

[00:05:47]Yeah, how does how does that It's it's it's very similar to what we just talked about how it's through the spirit that Christ is with us, the Father is with us.

[00:05:57]Well, really the person that the the person that is with us that indwells us is the Holy Spirit. And so that's why that's why the Holy Spirit is called the spirit of He's the spirit of God. He's also called the spirit of Christ. But notice this is this is how you can work with these type of I guess kind of unclear passages. Yeah. Yeah.

[00:06:19]>> If you look at the very clear ones to interpret the unclear ones. So Jesus makes it very clear that he sends the spirit which means that he's distinct from the spirit. They're not the same. Sure.

[00:06:32]>> Right? And in that same chapter in John 14 and when he first talks about the comforter Yeah.

[00:06:37]>> he says, "I'm going to give you a another comforter."

[00:06:42]Meaning that means different from me.

[00:06:46]I'll give you another comforter. I'm the first comforter. There's going to be another comforter coming to you.

[00:06:51]Right? I don't know how >> So Jesus makes in the same chapter just a few verses above, he makes a clear distinction between him matter of fact, he makes it He says, "I will ask the Father and he will give you another comforter." So we see three distinctions. I'll ask the Father. Yes.

[00:07:09]>> He's going to give you another, which is different from me, comforter.

[00:07:14]Right? Yeah. And he goes in and he starts explaining, "I will not leave you orphans. Those who love me and keep my commandments and if you love me you love my Father and me and my Father will make our home with you." Right? How? Through the Holy Spirit because the Holy Spirit belongs to them both.

[00:07:29]But they all share the same essence. So so the Holy Spirit is still God. It's still Yahweh just like Jesus is Yahweh just like the Father is Yahweh. You got it.

[00:07:40]Wow. Oh my gosh, that's insane. You got it.

[00:07:43]>> Um okay, so what about the um the Great Commission? Baptize in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. I was taught that name was Jesus. Because in the book of Acts I was taught in the book of Acts, right?

[00:08:00]Men and brethren, what what what shall we do? Be baptized in the in the name of of Jesus.

[00:08:04]>> Jesus. That That That scripture, if I didn't know any other scripture on the in in the whole Bible, they harped on that scripture over and over and over and over and over again. All the All the All the passages in Acts where they were saying even even the the disciple like John's former John the Baptist's former disciples that were you know they were they they got rebaptized in the name of Jesus and so can you please explain that cuz like it literally it was like the rest of their you know, heretical teaching or however hinged on Acts 2:38. Like that that was That was the crux of their theology.

[00:08:43]Yeah. Yeah. Here's a problem. I'll I'll I'll answer it in two ways. One, I'll show you the problem and then show you what the how to really deal with this.

[00:08:53]Number one, if we take [clears throat] it the way that they're taking it, right? That it's a it's a it's a literal like name like where like Henry or Jesus or whatever. Yeah.

[00:09:01]>> It's a literal name. There's problems because this name wasn't introduced until Jesus took on flesh.

[00:09:08]So then before this, what was God's name?

[00:09:12]Yahweh.

[00:09:13]>> What was it? Yahweh. Yahweh.

[00:09:19]Did did did he Is his name no longer Yahweh and it's Jesus now? So then in the Old Testament and even in the New Testament when they keep going they keep calling back to these Old Testament passages where it's calling in the name of Yahweh and and Yahweh's name and yada yada yada. Yeah.

[00:09:35]>> It's It's in Yahweh's name. Does Does that name have no more Is that not the name that with authority? In Joel 2, like for example, in Acts the same Acts that they're quoting in Acts 2.

[00:09:47]Earlier in the in the chapter, they Peter quotes Joel chapter 2 verse 32, where it says, "All who call on the name of Yahweh will be saved." will be saved.

[00:09:58]>> He quotes Joel 2 and says this is about Jesus.

[00:10:01]So, notice >> Yahweh Exactly.

[00:10:04]It's Yahweh, though.

[00:10:05]But, he applies it to Jesus.

[00:10:07]So, if we're going to take this with literal names, we have a problem cuz what are we supposed to call on? They say you call on Jesus, but the same passage says call on the name of Yahweh. What should I do? If it's about what the name the names that you utter.

[00:10:23]Avery, it's it's insane because what what what they would do is they would people who who say like they have been baptized and they would come and and you know, visit or however and they'd say, "Well, I was baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit." And they would tell us we had to get rebaptized.

[00:10:43]Like literally, people [laughter] who were I'm getting chills just just you know, going back over it in my mind like all these people, these it's cuz we were college students, you know? A lot of us were far away from home.

[00:10:56]We didn't you know, maybe some of us are coming back to faith after kind of wilding out, you know, in college or whatever.

[00:11:03]And they would tell them like your your baptism isn't valid. Yeah. And they would they and and many of us got rebaptized just because like we thought, "Oh man, like we we missed it, you know?

[00:11:16]We're like we're like John the Baptist's disciples. Like we were you know, we were baptized in sincerity, but now we have to it's it's it's crazy. Like and like you said, they they they kind of preyed on us in our vulnerable state wanting to know more about God, maybe not knowing as much about the scripture >> [snorts] >> and just just use that like to to kind of baptize us in the way that they thought was was correct. Yeah.

[00:11:47]And and and never again and never even, you know, the name God's name of Yahweh was never even brought up in in the almost five six years that I went to church there, never heard it not once.

[00:11:59]It was >> Very good. Jesus Jesus is the father, Jesus is the son, Jesus is the Holy Spirit. And you know, in in your mind you're like, well, of course of course you know, Jesus Jesus is God, right? But then I I would be confused like cuz I I would like pray to the father. And then I'd say, you know, thank you Jesus and then I'd say, Holy Spirit help me. You know, just depending on what was happening, but I never in in my heart I never felt that that was wrong even though that was against what I was being taught. Mhm. So it's like something in my heart was like, well, this is you know, I'm praying to God. I'm praying to the father. I'm praying to the son. I'm praying to the Holy Spirit.

[00:12:38]And and I felt peace in my heart about all those things, but that was again, it I kept it to myself because if you even uttered anything like you know, or you know, even ask questions about the Trinity then you got you got scolded. I mean I mean you basically got excommunicated if you didn't you know, if if you just didn't say again that Jesus Jesus is the father.

[00:13:06]Yeah. And and and yeah, so I I just I just think about, you know, where I was back then as a young college student and you know, and all the these heretical things they were teaching us and but and they would skip over they would skip over any passages that that affirmed the Trinity, you know.

[00:13:27]>> Yeah. Yeah, of course. Now, now here's here's the right way to understand the name thing. It's called name It's called name theology. Let me tell you what.

[00:13:38]>> Name theology. It's different aspects in regards to how to deal with the name of something. So, for example, um if you if a subject a servant will go out in the name of the king. Yes.

[00:13:53]>> I come in the name of the king. Yeah.

[00:13:55]Obviously, the servant's name is not the king's name, but what is he what's that what does that mean? He mean It means he's going out on the authority of the king. Yes.

[00:14:02]>> Right? And he's representing the king.

[00:14:05]Sure. So, you have name theology throughout the Bible where um we're doing things in the name of Yahweh or calling upon the name of Yahweh means you're invoking God, you're you're invoking his authority and his power.

[00:14:21]Sure. Right? And so, with in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit means to you're invoking the power and the authority you're baptizing in the in the authority and the power of God, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

[00:14:35]Absolutely.

[00:14:35]>> Not that it's an act it's a not even that it's Yahweh Jesus, no, but what it means is is you are baptizing or, you know, doing this ritual in the authority of God. That's what that means. So, that's why you can you can you can get baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Yeah. If someone got baptized in the name of you see them in the uh in the New Test in the in Acts they'll be baptized in the name of Jesus. It's one and the same because it's the same authority. They're invoking the same authority and power. Right, because if again if Jesus Jesus is Yahweh, then if you baptize in the name of Jesus, then you are baptizing in >> You are baptizing in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. If you baptize in the name of the Father, Holy Spirit, you're baptizing in the name of Jesus because it's the same authority.

[00:15:28]Really really simple stuff, isn't it?

[00:15:30]No, you >> [laughter] >> It is it is so it is so simple and it and it baffles me how how people can take, you know, take the scripture and twist twist it isn't isn't even that's putting it lightly. I mean, like I said, it it's just it's just complete heresy.

[00:15:48]It's antichrist, anti-Bible. Um and it's it's it's crazy how they can take you can take scripture and then like I said, just conveniently skip over things that that would your heresy, yeah?

[00:16:04]The devil did it. Remem- remember when Jesus when Jesus in the wilderness and the devil's quoting the scripture to him? Mhm. He says, throw yourself off this cliff for uh God will send his angels to carry carry you about so that you don't strike your foot against the stone. Right. He conveniently left out the next verse that says, "And you will trample the lion and the serpent."

[00:16:29]>> Right, he conveniently leaves that part out where where where the Messiah crushes Satan. Yeah, exactly. Exactly.

[00:16:40]>> Right? Where where the seed of the woman would crush the head of the serpent. So, of course like why why he's going to leave that out cuz you're going to affirm that that Christ came to do to destroy you know, your destroy your your power and your hold over the world? Like, no.

[00:16:58]So, what we're seeing is we're seeing the same antic antics of Satan that we saw in the garden with deceit, with little trinkets of little truths where it sounds true, but really it's a whole perverted lie. The same tactics we see in the garden and the same tactics we see in the wilderness with the Jesus from Satan we see in these false teachers. It's the same thing.

[00:17:34]>> So, what what do you say about, you know, those those, you know, different types of people that believe that um the angel of the Lord is not Yahweh, but the but a messenger doing things on the authority of of Yahweh. So, there's a difference between coming in the name of the Lord and claiming to be the Lord himself.

[00:17:59]The angel of the Lord doesn't say, "I come in the name of Yahweh." He says, "I am Yahweh, the God of your fathers Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob." That's what the angel of the Lord says.

[00:18:08]He speaks differently than any mere angel or prophet or messenger speaks.

[00:18:13]They other proph- They say, "Thus says the Lord." Yeah.

[00:18:17]>> "This is what the Lord says." The angel of the Lord says, "I said."

[00:18:21]"I'm making this covenant with you. I will give you an inheritance. You did not" He told Abraham, "You did not withhold your son from me."

[00:18:32]Right. And then so, even with like Hagar, um cuz Hagar spoke to the angel of the Lord, but then she said she called him um what was it?
