US reportedly preparing indictment against Raúl CastroHinzugefügt:
And right now, noon monitoring reports the US is preparing to indict Cuba's Raul Castro for the shootdown of two Brothers to the Rescue planes more than three decades ago. It comes just a day after a US delegation flat flew to Havana for another round of negotiations with the communist government.
>> US-Cuba relations have been tense as the Trump administration has helped trigger a critical economic and humanitarian crisis. Our Christian De La Rosa is live from Little Havana with it all.
Christian.
You know, it really seems like the Cuban regime is being hit from all sides by the Trump administration, but also pressure mounting from within. Take a look at the latest video that we have of protest in the island overnight. People obviously fed up with the situation there, the blackouts, the lack of fuel.
This as we stand by to see what happens next.
I don't want to comment on that. I'll let the DOJ comment on it, but they need help. Today, President Trump on Air Force One refusing to speak about reports of a possible federal indictment on Fidel Castro's brother and former Cuban leader Raul Castro.
>> We have a lot to talk about on Cuba, but not maybe for today. The DOJ reportedly looking to indict Castro over the deadly shootdown of two humanitarian planes from Brothers to the Rescue out of Miami by Cuban fighter jets in 1996.
The news adding to escalating pressure on the regime by the US following a Havana visit from CIA Director John Ratcliffe meeting with Cuban counterparts this week.
>> We've offered to distribute a hundred million dollars of humanitarian aid to the Cuban people through the church, and the regime has denied it.
>> Cuban President Diaz-Canel responding to Secretary of State Marco Rubio on social media claiming the island is willing to accept aid from the US as pressure within Cuba also mounts.
More protests have been erupting as Cubans grow more frustrated over blackouts and fuel shortages brought on in part by the Trump administration's threat of tariffs against any nation exporting oil to Cuba.
Cuban officials now saying they are completely out of fuel.
So, still no direct word or confirmation from DOJ on this possible indictment. No word as you heard from the president as to whether or not this is just part of the strategy. We know as we've been reporting that the Trump administration has moved away from talk about a possible military intervention, a military operation against Cuba and more towards diplomacy. Keep it here for the latest. Live in Little Havana, I'm Christian De La Rosa. Local 10 News.
>> Okay, Christian. Thank you. Stay with Local 10 for the very latest on the possible indictment of Raul Castro and the latest reaction from the communist island all right here on Local 10.
