Israel pushes for renewed US strikes against Iran amid frustration over unmet war goalsAñadido:
US President Donald Trump and his deputy J.D. Vance are highlighting the progress made in negotiations with Iran. Trump said the war would be over very quickly.
That is despite an earlier warning the US could resume the bombing if peace talks fail.
We're going to end that war very quickly. They want to make a deal so badly. They're tired of This This should have happened for 47 years. Somebody should have done something about it and it's going to happen and it's going to happen fast and you're going to see oil plummet. They're going to come down.
There's so much oil out there. They're going to come plummeting down.
There's an option B. And the option B is that we could restart the military campaign to continue to prosecute the case, to continue to try to achieve America's objectives. And we could talk a little bit about what that looks like, but that's not what the president wants and I don't think it's what the Iranians want either. We have an opportunity here, I think, to reset the relationship that has existed between Iran and the United States for 47 years. That's what the president has asked us to do and that's what we're going to keep on working at, but it takes two to tango.
We are not going to have a deal that allows the Iranians to have a nuclear weapon. So, as the president just told me, we're locked and loaded. We don't want to go down that pathway, but the president is willing and able to go down that pathway if we have to.
Iran has warned against a resumption of hostilities. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said any return to war would come with many more surprises based on the lessons Tehran has learned. While Iran's Revolutionary Guard has issued a new threat to widen its attacks beyond the region if the US and Israel were to launch new attacks against Iran.
I'm going to go to Nida Ibrahim now, who is in Ramallah in the occupied West Bank, who's tracking reaction in Israel for us. And Nida, can you just run us through the latest remarks within Israel about these potential strikes by the US on Iran?
Well, they cannot wait for this strike to happen. And the question in Israeli media is when. That's the main concern.
As the time goes by, that the Israelis feel that maybe the Americans are not necessarily interested in resuming the war. That's why they want to keep pressuring the US administration in terms of trying to hit Iranian strikes.
When we talk about the polls inside Israel, they believe that the US has a big impact on the Israeli defense decisions, on the Israeli security establishment. Although when you talk to Americans, they say that it was Israel that pushed the US into a war without having all of the goals being realistic or potentially available to be secured. There's deep frustration in Israel when it comes to the regime showing steadfastness. They believe and they've been saying since the beginning of the war that the regime will fall when the war stops. That will give people the potential to go to the streets when they're not in direct confrontation with an outside enemy.
That did not happen. All of that does not sit well with Israelis who believe that Netanyahu could not achieve the war goals. The main concern that the US might have figured out that what Netanyahu did in pressuring President Trump and lobbying for the war might have not been the best decision for them. Let's listen to what the Israelis are saying about the American remarks about the war.
The United States followed Israel into this war.
And the Secretary of State of the United States said we had no choice. They chose the time. The Israeli Prime Minister decided when this started. Well, that's the definition of control. He had control of this war. I don't believe Donald Trump, and I also think as an Israeli you should pause before using the phrase terror regime since you live in a country that just murdered thousands of children in Gaza. We should all pull back a little bit on the rhetoric.
Well, that's a main concern in Israel.
Why? Because they believe that the Israeli narrative is not deeply penetrating the US mainstream public, the media, the way it used to before. There is deep criticism for Israelis, specifically when we talk about the young generation, and particularly in the Democratic Party.
So, all of these concerns in Israel about the role the US is playing in the region, about the fact that the war still did not achieve any of its goals.
All of that is not sitting well with Israelis as they keep trying to pressure for a strike.
>> Okay, thank you so much Nida as always.
Nida Ibrahim there for us in Ramallah in the occupied West Bank.
