The India-US relationship has been reset and strengthened following a period of diplomatic strain, with Secretary of State Marco Rubio's visit to India marking a significant 'repair' or 'reload' of bilateral ties. Key areas of cooperation include energy partnerships (with discussions on US and Venezuelan oil supplies), nuclear energy collaboration following the Shanti Bill, and trade agreements. The visit also included humanitarian engagements with the Missionaries of Charity in Kolkata, demonstrating the multifaceted nature of diplomatic relations that combine strategic interests with humanitarian outreach.

WATCH: Marco Rubio To Attend QUAD Meet and Hold High-Level India Talks With PM ModiAdded:
the uh sisters they not really revealing what was discussed in the meeting or but there were gifts that was of course given uh to the children you know a very significant message that Marco Rubio want to send out and like we discussed earlier this is also for the Republican supporters as well uh but when we talk about his Delhi visit and Agra visit and Jaipur visit do you think that you know there's kind of a a long you know something that was missing as far as India US relationship is concerned, how there were strains altogether. Do you think that finally things are going to be reset?
>> Well, I think uh there was a lull in between. Nobody really denies it that there was a lull. But uh I think Sharinda the coming of Sergio Gore as the ambassador to India from the US was a turning point in the entire uh circumstances. I would say ever since you know operation sindur happened then we saw Donald Trump making certain claims which India contested. In the prime minister himself called up Donald Trump and contested the version saying that US did not have any role in the ceasefire between India and Pakistan.
But since then I think that bump both the countries have uh got over that bump and now we are seeing you know increasing earlier it was JD Vance who came to India during the time in that time unfortunately Pelgam had happened but now we have Sergio Gore here and I think this relationship is only going to I see only it strengthening over the time there is a meeting which could happen between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Donald Trump at the G7 in France on June 16th 17th that could be very important as well. We have Siddhant with us you know who covers foreign affairs very closely and Siddhant do you think this particular meeting today between the prime minister and uh the US secretary of state and subsequently with J Shankar is also laying the ground for the big meeting expected between Prime Minister Modi and Donald Trump at the G7. Well, of course I'm on a very very significant visit of Secretary Rubio and in fact there is lot of work and and which needs to be which needs to be done in the relationship not only in terms of uh you know strengthening ties but as many are calling it repair visit some are calling it reload in India US ties a very very important visit in fact he's going to call on Prime Minister Modi today tomorrow there's going to be meeting with EMSJ Shankar uh on 26th May quad meeting taking place third quad meeting in 15 uh months. Uh so there is a lot uh to be done as far as India US ties are concerned. uh in fact as you were uh talking about the hiccups in the relationship last year but since January you know in terms of uh India joining Pacilica then trade deal and many telephonic conversations taking place between Prime Minister Modi and President Trump perhaps shows that relationship is back on track uh one now and uh and perhaps to celebrate this repair or or or you know reload Secretary Rubio is uh visiting uh India.
So uh you know a lot lined up uh for next couple of uh days ammon in terms of uh discussions about uh India India US ties the nuclear energy perhaps one more addition to this relationship uh it could not take off after the civil nuclear deal with the United States India could not manage to attract much of the investments from the United States but in fact last year India Indian parliament passed Shanti bill perhaps you know making a for the US private investments uh in uh India and now we could expect Maharashtra to be the first state where US companies uh could be you know manufacturing SMRs uh so so that's that's again a new achievement uh in India US uh ties then of course uh there's going to be the new financial and economic dialogue between India and United States which could uh start in fact uh for the same purpose ambassador Sergio Gore at finance minister Nirmalasi Taran the other day.
uh so a lot is happening and especially after ambassador Gore you know becoming ambassador of the United States to India perhaps the way he has been working hard to uh to to put things uh back on track to streamline this relationship and and it's result of his hard work only that today secretary Marco Rubio is visiting India >> all right and now we are getting a breaking input at this point that Marco Rubio in fact interacted with the nuns in Kolkata and fresh inside images of Rubio at the mother house. Now Rubio leaves Kolkata, heads to the national capital and 2 p.m. is when the big meeting with the prime minister Modi is going to take place. We're also seeing these visuals of the the memorial of Mother Teresa and also the gift that has in fact been put in there by Marco Rubio. uh you know I mean just few days back you also did a story about how India is actually planning to be have an independence when it comes to exporting oils or exporting energy and there is of course a long-term plan that is in place but meanwhile what are you picking up from the government are they actually open like the uh like US is pushing India to export from Venzula uh do you think that India is open at this point to get oil from Venezula >> see I think Sharon India has always been open to get oil from wherever it suits us. You know, the price suits us best in the interest of our consumers. All these years we did not get Venezuelan oil because it was sanctioned by the US. So now the sanctions are no longer there.
In fact, Secretary Rubio has said that you know America wants to encourage India to get Venezuelan oil. So I think India is definitely open to it. India has not ever said that we will not diversify. India in fact has been diversifying over the years for the last especially over the last one one and a half years since especially now when the state of Hormuz is shut for almost 70 days. India needs that energy. We saw the prime minister going to UAE on his first stops in the five nation tour and getting an agreement done for UAE to you know maintain a reserve of oil in India.
So I think India is making all the efforts to ensure that our stocks and our reserves remain very much so. So so that the public is not unconvenience though the situation is really not in our control the external situation as such. Uh but I think this visit is extremely important because the US wants India to buy more gas and oil from them and you know India has also been open to it. There was a commitment to increase the bilateral trade uh in a big manner when the two prime ministers had last met in Washington DC last February. So I think definitely both the countries are looking to expand that and I think Mr. Rubio's conversations today will have definitely feature that and you know Sadhant on that point do you think energy is something topmost on the minds of India when the talks with the Mr. Rubio happen both by Mr. Prime Minister as well as foreign minister Jash Shanker.
>> Of course, Aman energy is going to be the prime focus uh during talks between India and the United States. In fact, uh Secretary Dubio will be meeting EMS J Shanker uh tomorrow. Both uh you know energy in terms of crude, gas and also nuclear energy. Now uh so you know already India has an existing you know long-term agreement for the LG supplies which was announced in the month of November. Other than this there have also been uh buying of energy from the United States. India is right now among focusing on diversification also given situation at the hormuz perhaps the supply has got affected. So uh of course India is looking at diversification more trade routes etc etc. So definitely the focus is going to be on that and also uh the pitch which Marco Rubio made ahead of his visit to India perhaps integrating uh US and Venezuelan uh you know energy together for India. Perhaps he's offering both US and Venezuelan energy together uh to India. It's up to the Indian government now the Indian oil marketing companies to decide whether they would like to go with the Venezuelan oil because there are other factors also in the play in terms of you know route logistics so on and so forth.
So that's up to the oil marketing companies to decide but you know it's an open offer from the United States and uh and Venezuela. Of course the pricing is also one of the key uh factors whether this uh energy would be available at a cheaper rate the the price which Russia is offering to India or for that matter which Iran could offer to India and also given supplies from Iran would be more feasible you know geographically Iran is closer uh to India. So all these factors are always u in mind before taking any decision. Then nuclear energy in fact we were talking about the nuclear energy part. Uh so after a civil uh uh nuclear agreement between India and the United States uh uh nuclear bill uh uh you know uh we there were expectations that there would be US investments US company working in the nuclear sector would be investing uh in India etc etc but that did not happen actually uh Ammon uh to be very honest because of the liability clause etc etc but last year Indian parliament passed Shanti bill and And in fact which opened in a way opened way for the uh for the American companies to to to now to come to India and work in the nuclear uh sector can you know to do collaboration with the nuclear nuclear uh companies working in India. Now sorry so the other day Maharashtra could be the first >> of course big trade and deal talks.
