Indiana, Ohio primary election results: Trump-backed candidates win big in Indiana

All eyes are on Indiana and Ohio's primary elections tonight, bringing a clearer view to the fall midterms as control of Congress is up for grabs. We start tonight with team coverage. Kayla Gaskins breaks down the gerrymander battles threatening control of the House. Then, Jeff Harris takes us to California where voters will decide on a billionaire's tax. But first, let's go to Ryan Smith at the live desk to break down the latest primary results.

[00:00:34]>> Yeah, Dee, we can kind of see this as a potential preview to the midterms here election night. We start in Indiana. A live look right here over Indianapolis, Indiana tonight, where President Trump's efforts to oust state GOP senators who defied his calls to redraw the state's congressional map. Well, they seem to be paying off. Check it out. The six races called by the AP so far, five White House backed candidates have defeated the incumbent in those races. Votes in the remaining seventh race still being counted tonight with incumbent Spencer Deiri holding a slight lead right now.

[00:01:09]Now we shift to the battleground state of Ohio where former US Senator Shared Brown has won in the Democratic primary.

[00:01:17]He will now face off against current US Senator John Houston, who was appointed to fill Vice President JD Vance's seat.

[00:01:24]Now, that race expected to be one of the most expensive and certainly consequential this fall in November. The GOP super PAC, the Senate Leadership Fund already pledging nearly $80 million to help defend that incumbent. Also in Ohio tonight, 2024 presidential candidate Vake Ramaswami gliding right through the Republican primary for governor pitting him now against former state health director Dr. Amy Actton in that November election.

[00:01:54]>> And continuing our coverage, a razor thin race in Michigan. Tonight, voters are electing the next state senator for the 35th district. Democrat Shedric Green, Republican Jason Tony, and independent Alli Sleds are going head-tohead. This after 16 months without representation in the district after former representative Christian McDonald Rivet resigned during the last presidential election. Kla Harris won the district by less than one percentage point. Vice President JD Vans visiting Iowa today for the first time since taking office to speak to voters in a manufacturing facility, attacking Democrats on issues like immigration and fraud as he rallied for the state's embattled House Republican.
