Why is no-one talking about fast furniture? #sustainabledesign

[00:00:00]No one ever talks about fast furniture or the fact that we're throwing away these huge things. Well over a million sofas get discarded in this country every year. Virtually all those sofas are full of foam and fiber. And that foam and fiber is not going to degrade for decades if not centuries. At my local rubbish tip, they've got a dedicated bin for throwaway sofas. And where are they going to go? They can only go one place. They're going to landfill. So, I wanted to make sofas which number one, make them last forever. So, the most sustainable thing you can do is make something that's not going to get thrown away. Two, I want to spend as much money on the sofa as I could, more than anyone else at our price point, but I wanted to sell it at that price point. And the only way I could do that is by not having fancy showrooms, by not having expensive marketing. Because people don't give a damn about my marketing. They don't give a damn about the fact that, you know, there was a really nice bloke selling them a sofa. They they don't give a damn about any of this stuff. What they're going to live with for the next 20, 30, 40 billion years is the sofa. And I've got to make that as nice as possible.
